A prison officer along with one of the suspects responsible for his injuries, are both warded at the same hospital following a shooting in Piarco last night.
The officer was shot multiple times by gunmen who then got into an accident shortly afterwards, while fleeing the scene.
Police have since detained two suspects, one of whom was badly injured in the getaway crash.

00:00A 38-year-old prison officer remains warded at hospital after being shot multiple times on Friday night.
00:07TV6 News was told, Govindra Balgobin, a prison officer one, had completed his shift and left the maximum security prison in Aruka around 8.30 p.m.
00:17While driving his white Toyota Aqua, Balgobin was proceeding south along the Golden Grove Road, Pianko.
00:24And whilst at the Pianko traffic lights, a Nissan Wing Road with several occupants pulled alongside him to the right.
00:31Police reports state that the occupants opened fire on the officer's vehicle.
00:36He was hit multiple times to his right hand and right leg and drove his car south, crossing the traffic lights before stopping.
00:43The suspects then turned easterly onto the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway and near to the Arupun walkover.
00:49A short distance from the shooting crashed into the median, spun around and came to a stop in the centre lane of the highway.
00:57Police say, based on initial information received, three suspects fled from the Wing Road whilst one was ejected from the vehicle, landed on the road unable to move.
01:08Highway Patrol officers and air support unit personnel along with other units assisted with a search for the other suspects last night and a second suspect was captured.
01:18When the scene was processed, one 9mm Glock 19 pistol and a cell phone were retrieved in the vehicle.
01:26TV6 News understands the prison officer successfully underwent surgery and his condition is being monitored.
01:33The hospitalised suspect is in a critical condition following the crash, whilst the other suspect is in police custody as their enquiries continue.
