00:04continues to be the subject of a police investigation as well as the killing of
00:08a civilian identified as Hakeem Joseph following the execution of a search
00:13warrant at this home at St. Rose Street in Guapo by police officers. Several
00:18narratives have emerged on social media since the incident. In one narrative
00:22there's a claim that all the police officers who went to Joseph's house were
00:26wearing ski masks. Another narrative claims that a dead suspect had an
00:31altercation with one of the police officers a week ago. Several senior
00:35officers who spoke to TV6 News over the last 24 hours dismissed these
00:40allegations as false. So what really happened in the wee hours of Wednesday
00:45morning when police went to this house as part of an anti-crime exercise? At
00:50least three senior police sources told TV6 News that while police officers were
00:54executing the search warrant at this house for arms and ammunition, PC Banahar
00:59of the Separa CID stood on the periphery near a vehicle. When police reached the
01:05house a teenager who was inside allegedly threw a firearm out of one of
01:08the windows but after he was restrained he was later released. Sources say that
01:13while this commotion was taking place inside the house PC Banahar spotted
01:18Hakeem Joseph running from the house via another entrance. Banahar who was in
01:24plain clothes and not wearing a bulletproof vest apparently gave chase.
01:28Banahar caught up with Joseph a short distance away near the home of one of
01:33Joseph's relatives. The two men had a scuffle and fought on the ground. Sources
01:38say that Joseph's relative who saw the commotion from his home was armed with
01:42an illegal firearm that was later identified as a Glock pistol with an
01:46automatic selector. We are told by our sources that a relative walked out of
01:51the house and began shooting at officer Banahar and in so doing he not only
01:56shot Banahar but also Joseph who died minutes later on the scene. The relative
02:02police sources say then stood over the injured policeman on the ground and
02:06shot him several times. Police sources say Banahar was shot in the head and
02:10multiple times in the upper body. They are still trying to ascertain if the
02:15suspect used his illegal firearm to kill Banahar or if he used Banahar's
02:20licensed firearm. It was only after those shots were heard that police who
02:24were conducting a search at the house responded. ACP Wayne Meister confirms
02:29that an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting
02:33and the police exercise will be undertaken and will be made known to the
02:38public when the time is right. Following the shooting sources say the
02:41suspect ran into the house with both firearms later ditching both weapons in
02:46the house before escaping. It was only late last evening that a suspect
