00:00An every morning routine to get up around 5am and walk his dog in the front yard is
00:06something one 76-year-old Princess Town man will likely never do again.
00:12On Wednesday morning, the elderly man had only just exited his front porch when armed
00:18bandits entered his property.
00:29When we met with him on Thursday, he explained what happened.
00:33I was in the yard and a car stopped and three fellas come, right with masks and things on.
00:45And one had a gun, took out the gun, he want me to come inside the house.
00:50So we come and we was here and there was money and things and I tell them, well we have no
00:59money and I talking hard, they said, you talk hard.
01:03But he says not staying quiet is likely what alerted his younger male relative who lives
01:09on the same compound.
01:11Within seconds, he says, his relative came into the house armed with a cutlass and went
01:17straight at the intruders.
01:19Yeah, but he big and he strong, you know.
01:32When them see him, they start to be reversed.
01:34He come up with the cutlass and they was right here and he start to chop them.
01:38Then them start to shoot from outside.
01:41During the shooting, the elderly man was grazed on his right shoulder by one of the bullets.
01:47His relative received cuts from the broken glass of the front door, which was hit during
01:51the shooting.
01:52Both men were left reeling and undoubtedly traumatized following the violent home invasion.
01:59The elderly man says his relative's actions likely saved his life and if others can similarly
02:06defend themselves against criminals, they should.
02:09They could defend their self, but defend their self.
02:12When people come in your house to kill you, you ever kill them?
02:17Investigators recovered four Spen 9mm shells at the scene and have since made checks at
02:23health institutions in Princestown and in Virens for people with chop wounds.
02:28However, there has been no record of anyone seeking medical attention for those injuries.
02:35Investigations are ongoing.
