00:00West Indies captain Roston Chase and his men face India in their own backyard in Ahmedabad come Thursday
00:05with the men in Maroon being without injured pacers Al-Zari Joseph and Shemar Joseph.
00:11The squad includes left arm spinner Kari Peer who Chase says is quite a talented player.
00:16But the question is, will Peer make his test debut?
00:19I'm a very mature guy, he's played a lot of cricket, mainly a lot of white ball cricket
00:24but he's a guy that can adapt to any form of the game.
00:28He's had a good four day season, red ball season, took the most wickets so that's why he's here
00:36so hopefully if he gets the chance to play tomorrow he can come in with an impact first up
00:41but as I said we didn't really get to see much of the pitch, just a slight luck
00:45because the rains came as we were having that luck so we're not sure as yet.
00:51Chase knows India will go into the contest as favourites.
00:55Having said that, he wants his teammates to have a positive mindset.
00:58Yeah well, going to any team's home country is going to be tough.
01:05Teams at home are always stronger, seem to be stronger at home so we're up for the challenge
01:11and test cricket is always hard so it's not something that's new to us
01:16so we're looking forward to the challenge.
01:18Chase says despite poor performances, including a 3-0 loss to Australia in the Caribbean recently,
01:24the Windies cannot be taken lightly.
01:27He believes being labelled underdogs has certain advantages.
01:30Obviously we're coming in as the underdogs, we have nothing to lose so I think that makes us quite a dangerous side
01:36when you really have nothing to lose you can just go and play freely because I mean everyone is expecting us to lose
01:44so we can just go and express ourselves and play some good cricket, you know what I mean?
01:49Just try to be free as possible and enjoy the cricket.
01:53India are coming off a successful Asia Cup where they beat Pakistan in Sunday's final.
01:58Despite having to switch from the white ball format to the red ball version,
02:02new test captain Shubman Gill feels he can make the necessary adjustments in quick time.
02:07We had I think a couple of days of practice before a test match so yes it was a quick turnaround.
02:15I was just sort of looking to work on defence and sort of trying to get in the zone I think.
02:23Switching formats is more mental than it is about technique, that's what I believe in.
02:28So I was just trying to work on getting into my zone.
02:33India started their new world test championship cycle with a 2-all draw against England.
02:39As such, Gill says that outcome gave the Indian team a boost
02:42and the lessons learnt in England can be applied against the West Indies.
02:47What the people can expect from us is good hard grinding cricket
02:50and we wouldn't be looking for any easy out options
02:54and I think we have got the skill set to be able to play on any kind of a wicket or any situation
02:59and the kind of talent that we have on the team.
03:01We can, I think, turn around from any situation so that's what we'll be looking to play.
03:07Following the Ahmedabad test, the teams then head to Delhi for Game 2 starting October 10th.
