The national team for the CARIFTA Swimming Championships is expected to be determined this week. It comes following the conclusion of the National Swimming Championships this weekend at the Aquatic Center. Some 36 spots were up for grabs and athletes put on their best display as they strived to achieve the mark.

00:08Just four swimmers competing in the race and considering she had more than a body weight
00:13on her competitors, she needed to motivate herself to fight for quality time.
00:18She won in a time of 2 minutes 32.92 seconds, Makayla Mohammed second and Kiyomi Rankin
00:24third.
00:25And just who came out to see the national championships, the faithful of course.
00:30There were guests from up above as well and despite the authorities' best efforts to keep
00:36them out and without a chance of dropping gifts for those below, their effects were
00:40still sorely felt by swimmers and officials alike.
00:44In the boys 8 and under division, Luke Sutherland went on to touch the wall first in 1 minute
00:4931.72 seconds, second place going to Jaquim Jake Adams and third Jesse Robertson.
01:04Females 11 to 12, 50 meter breaststroke, you're looking at Zelaya Lewis pushing confidently,
01:10parting the water on her way to winning the division.
01:13She achieved the Karyfta B standard with a time of 37.74 seconds and Shazia Jagessa
01:20achieving the C standard for second spot.
01:31Christian Allen closest to your screen, just edging Elihu Brown in lane 5 according to
01:37the results on the board.
01:39Winning time 38.43, however the official results showed Brown taking the win in 38.16 ahead
01:47of Christian 38.73.
01:50They were two of eight athletes who made the qualifying standard.
01:55In the female 13 to 14 age group for 100 meter backstrokers, it was a battle to touch the
02:00wall.
02:01The prolific Zara Perisicu finished first in a time of 1 minute 16.19 seconds.
02:07Kimaya Rouse took second spot and Marina Martinez third.
02:11Martinez would prove strong after a series of swims on the day by winning the 13 to 14
02:16200 meter medley.
02:18More than 17 seconds ahead of Perisicu who came second.
02:22At the end of the championships several athletes registered Karyfta times but only 36 will
02:28make the final team which is expected to be ratified this week.
