Looking at the lighter side of things...

The Promenade Chess Club held a tournament in Valsayn over the weekend, with participants from different parts of the country.

Club President Hayden Lee was pleased with the turnout, saying it is a plus for the sport in T&T.
Transcript
00:00The Promenade Chess Club's marathon took place on Saturday with the Val Park Shopping Plaza
00:06being the venue for the event.
00:07The participants were fully focused on their game and that included Promenade Chess Club
00:12President Hayden Lee who continues to encourage many to take up the sport.
00:16Chess involves critical thinking, problem solving, prophylactic behaviour in terms of
00:23us being able to think ahead.
00:24So I think that could be a very good thing for the society as young people we are able
00:31to give that opportunity for them to be part of that game.
00:35Also in attendance at the event was Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association President Sonja
00:39Johnson.
00:40For her it was a joy seeing many chess players making themselves available.
00:44A very good time of the year, we have a wonderful showing in terms of diversity of players from
00:51the youngest who is 7 up to the eldest at 96 who participated in this event.
00:57So as a Chess Association President I am a happy camper to see that even in spite of
01:04the season that people came out today to be part of this wonderful, wonderful event.
01:10It's because of events like these that we get people coming in who we may not have even
01:14known was in the community.
01:16Even this young lad had some good things to say about the sport which requires a lot of
01:20concentration.
01:21I like chess because it's fun and we get to learn from others who are better than you.
01:34FIDE Master Ryan Harper was the overall winner of the Promenade Marathon Chess Tournament.
