The launch of the inaugural Diego Martin Borough Cup took place in Carenage recently.

10 community teams are involved in the tournament and will compete over the next few weeks, with a trophy and big prize money at stake.

00:00The launch of the Diego Martin Corporation Borough Cup took place on Friday at Hague Street in Caranage.
00:04Those working behind the scenes were doing their part to ensure that things run properly
00:08so that everyone could be entertained through the beautiful game of football.
00:12This was the draw to decide which teams were to be placed in which of the two groups.
00:16Counselor for Chag Ramos, Point Commander Kevon Williams is one of the coordinators on the committee involved in the Borough Cup competition.
00:23So it's gonna run for eight weeks. It's gonna be an exciting eight weeks.
00:27It's going to be two groups, two groups of five representing the ten districts.
00:32Our first group is Bamboo Cathedral, Group A, and our second group is Pyramid Lookout, Group B.
00:37So we expect to see some good sportsmanship, some good football, some good community spirit as the counselor said earlier.
00:44But most of all we want to make sure that the communities win and the sport win.
00:48With so many negatives affecting the people of TNT, there are those who see sport as a vehicle that provides some hope.
00:55Among them is Pitti Valley Co-Creed counselor Marcia Morslin.
00:58Our objective mainly is to curb crime, to bring communities closer, to get persons from that delinquent sort of behavior and that violent behavior.
01:09We're trying to tame the community and tame the whole atmosphere at this point in time.
01:15As you may have known, we have made some negative news and we are trying to curb that doing this initiative.
01:23In order to get the event officially started, Diego Martin Mayor Akila Glasgow Warner was the one to take the first kick.
01:29Then it was time to meet with the players with an exhibition match taking place on opening night.
01:34Regarding the prize money, Vice Chairman of the Sports Committee Damien Fournilier provided the details on it.
01:39I would like to share the exciting news of first prize $50,000, second prize $20,000, third prize $15,000.
01:50I'm so excited to see this 10 that's coming out here to support, to play together, to share the love.
01:56The action continues with the opening round on Thursday, followed by matches on Friday and Saturday.
