This past weekend marked the final chance for athletes to earn a spot to compete at the National Association of Athletics Administrations of T&T National Senior Championships set for early August. President of the N3A's Ephraim Serrette said the competition was crucial as it was used for the athletes to secure their qualification spot.

00:00For some fans, it might be uninspiring to attend a developmental meet.

00:05The top stars may not be there, so why go?

00:07Well, with a spot up for grabs at the National Senior Championships,

00:11these meets bring out the desperation in athletes in their last-ditch effort to meet the qualifying standard.

00:18Instead, with fan support lacking, athletes can hear themselves wheezing around the track

00:23and the shouting voices of their coaches in the stands.

00:26President of the National Association of Athletics and Administrations of TNT,

00:31Ephraim Serret, says this developmental meet is worthy of the effort to qualify for the Senior Championships.

00:37I think what's happening is that this meeting seems like it's a last-chance meet for persons

00:42because we have a system now where going to the championships,

00:46we're taking the top 32 performances from the year, best performances in the 100, 200, 400,

00:52and I get the jumps and throws, the best 12.

00:54We're trying to run a tight meet and to have a quality meet instead

01:00of just as a opponent and anybody who wouldn't just get up in the morning

01:04and think they need to come to the championship.

01:06So this was our event where persons were trying to, who feel they're not in the top 32,

01:11give them the opportunity to see if they could get themselves in the top 32 for these championships.

01:17And with recent improvements to the service, he says, performances have improved.

01:21Well, we've seen some good things. Cole just ran, what, 20 points?

01:25He ran 20 points in junior champs. It's not bad, I think, you know, the track.

01:30You know, we've seen some good performances.

01:32Serret also added that they are on the search for more sponsorship for athletics

01:36and he intends to meet with a Saudi Arabian contingent on that discussion.

01:40But we're still meeting on that. I think my next meeting will be meeting up with the team in Tokyo

01:46at the World Championships to further that discussion.
