00:00From sunny skies to those unexpected showers sneaking in, it's hard to keep track about the weather lately.
00:06And let's not forget that hazardous seas alert we've been hearing about.
00:10I know a lot of you are wondering, has it finally eased up or are we still in for some rough conditions?
00:16Well, for all the answers, let's check in with Josette.
00:21Thanks, Nisha.
00:22Well, the good news is the hazardous seas alert has eased up slightly for Trinidad,
00:26but it's still a concern for Tobago.
00:28Let's show you what's happening.
00:30Previously, the alert covered northern Trinidad and even parts of the Gulf of Paria.
00:34Now, the focus has shifted to Tobago's northern and eastern coastlines shown here in this dark yellow border.
00:40If you're in Tobago, especially near those exposed coasts, stay cautious.
00:44With waves generated by strong northeast trade winds reaching heights of up to 3 meters or about 10 feet,
00:50this is no time for you to be testing your sea legs.
00:53For those heading out early, especially fisherfolk and divers,
00:56timing is everything, so you might want to keep these tight times in mind.
01:07Looking back at today, we had mostly fair and sunny skies over Trinidad and Tobago,
01:12but around mid-afternoon, you may have noticed some overcast skies creeping into Tobago and northern Trinidad.
01:19Temperatures hit 32 degrees Celsius in Trinidad and 30 in Tobago, so right on target for this time of year.
01:25For tonight, expect fair skies with one standout feature, cooler temperatures.
01:30The reason, cooler air from the north and northeast is pushing into the region,
01:34driven by a high-pressure cell over the northwest Atlantic.
01:37This setup is creating a clockwise flow of air, bringing down temperatures, especially during the pre-dawn hours.
01:44For Trinidad and Tobago, we're talking lows of around 21 in Trinidad and 23 in Tobago,
01:49so if you're heading out late or waking up early, you're going to feel the chill, relatively speaking, of course.
01:55Speaking of waking up early, for early birds, the sun rises at 628 in Trinidad and 627 in Tobago.
02:01The sun sets at 602 in Trinidad and 558 in Tobago.
02:06Now, let's move on to tomorrow.
02:08While most of the day will be dry, keep an eye out for quick showers as the evening approaches near those hilly areas.
02:15Looking ahead into the rest of the week now,
02:17the first thing we're pointing out is that temperatures are looking to remain in the lower 30s,
02:21so it is shaping up to be a bit of a cool week.
02:24On Wednesday, another fair and sunny day for most areas,
02:28but don't be surprised if Tobago and northern Trinidad wake up to a brief sprinkle during the early morning hours.
02:34Otherwise, sunshine is going to dominate.
02:37On Thursday now, things get a bit more active.
02:39A little extra moisture in the atmosphere could bring some cloudy skies
02:43and a few light to moderate showers between mid-morning and early evening.
02:47If you're in the hills or northern areas, you'll likely notice this the most.
02:52Moving into Friday, a mix of sunshine and passing clouds.
02:55Light showers could interrupt the day briefly,
02:58particularly in hilly areas and parts of western Trinidad, but overall a pleasant day ahead.
03:03On Saturday, it's a similar story.
03:05Mostly sunny, but scattered light showers could pop up now and then.
03:10Again, these will favor hilly areas, so nothing too disruptive, but it's worth keeping an umbrella handy.
03:16Finally, a quick look abroad, and it's a lot.
03:19Over in Los Angeles, the wildfire crisis is intensifying.
03:23The death toll has now reached 24, with 60 people still unaccounted for.
03:28Three major fires continue to burn.
03:30The Palisades Fire has squashed over 23,000 acres and is only 13% contained.
03:36The Eaton Fire has burned 14,000 acres and is 27% contained.
03:40The smaller Hearst Fire has grown to nearly 800 acres and is almost fully contained.
03:45These fires are projected to become among the costliest in U.S. history,
03:49with damages estimated to be between $250 billion and $275 billion.
03:55Moving into Brazil, landslides caused by torrential downpour in southeast Brazil have left at least 10 people dead.
04:02In all the destruction, firefighters pulled the body of an 8-year-old boy from the rubble of a house destroyed by a landslide.
04:09Now in Japan, a tsunami advisory was withdrawn after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of southwest Japan.
04:17An initial tsunami wave approximately 1 meter, or 3.2 feet, high made landfall within 30 minutes of the earthquake.
04:25Of course, our thoughts are with all of them at this time.
04:28And that's your weather update for tonight.
04:30Keep warm during those cool pre-dawn hours, and don't forget an umbrella for those hilly late afternoon showers tomorrow.
04:36Until next time, stay safe and stay weather-aware.
04:39More news after the break.
