An Artificial Intelligence Avatar is being developed to assist students at secondary school.

It is set to be rolled out in a pilot with form one students.

According to the Ministry of Education, issues like connectivity in under-privileged households as well as training, have been factored into the equation.

00:00The subject of mathematics remains an issue for students at a CSEC level, with only 45.89% of students passing it in 2025.
00:10Well, according to Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry, Claude L. McKellar, among the areas of intervention is the planned implementation by the Ministry of an AI avatar.
00:21The government had committed to providing all students entering Form 1 from this current academic year, 2025-2026, with laptops.
00:32The intention is to have those applications loaded onto the machines so that the AI avatar-enabled learning materials can be used.
00:44The students are anticipated to have their devices by the end of November.
00:48Is the AI avatar accessible at present by all Form 1 students?
00:58No, the avatar and learning material is not available. At this time, we are in the process of development of the materials.
01:06The Ministry's Director of Curriculum and Planning Development, Anna Singh, expounds on other tools in the AI system that will also be available.
01:14So the AI augmented resource has three features, the avatar so that students can interact with, a library of videos and simulations,
01:31and then the actual text material where students will actually learn how to approach a particular topic.
01:41And it targets the weakest area in terms of CSEC first.
01:46The initial phase is with the mathematics. We intend to move to English language arts and other subjects as we go forward.
01:55It will also assist the Ministry in monitoring the performance of students and the collecting of high-level learning data, where reports can be shared with teachers thereafter.
02:05Singh says parents will also be able to interact with the AI materials.
02:09The Ministry states that a series of training has been factored in for teachers, students and parents and can include different modes, including webinars, face-to-face and on-demand.
02:21Singh says guidelines will also be embedded into the AI system, allowing round-the-clock access to the AI tools.
02:28The Education Ministry says it is aware that not all students may have access to a reliable internet connection.
02:35The application will be loaded onto the machines and may not necessarily require internet connection.
02:43So once you charge your device, you should have hours of usage without internet connection.

03:11The Education Ministry says that theほ皆さん have a direct extension of the AI system and may not be able to contact us by clicking on the AI system's sexual assault on purpose.
