A full scale investigation has been launched by the Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) into the circumstances under which a Tobago mother gave birth alone, at the labour
room of the Scarborough General Hospital, on November 7th. This from Health Secretary Dr Faith Brebnor.
00:00I do not know that the version of the story is completely accurate, but we are actually doing full investigation to figure out what has happened, and we are going to look towards ensuring that whatever happened, we improve on that.
00:15The health secretary said the report in the matter would not be made public.
00:20So usually the public doesn't get reports like this because we tend to treat with these private issues or with these patient issues as is.
00:28With confidentiality, so we are probably not going to report on it.
00:33Dr. Brebner said changes within the health system are being made.
00:37What you would probably recognize is that you are not going to see other cases because we've made changes in the system internally to prevent any negative thing from happening in the future.
00:48So that's how we are going to work with it.
00:50The mother, who wished not to be identified, told TV6 News she was taunted, laughed at, and shouted at by medical staff at the Scarborough General Hospital during the ordeal.
