An ex-murder convict has been shot dead at Claxton Bay a police woman shoots her spouse and inmates of the Port of Spain prison face additional charges.

00:00An ex-murder convict was shot dead in Claxton Bay last night. Another man who
00:04was also injured in the shooting is being treated at hospital. Police say 43
00:09year-old Wendell Simmons of Caratel Road Tortuga was liming at a roadie shop
00:14along Cedar Hill Road Claxton Bay around 9 p.m. when he was ambushed by a gunman.
00:19The attacker who was dressed in dark clothing with a hoodie and mask had been
00:24lurking in some bushes at the side of the road before he opened fire on
00:28Simmons. Several people in the area ran off. Simmons, however, was shot several
00:32times and died at the scene. The man worked as a laborer with a contractor
00:37at the Forest Park dump. He was convicted and served time in jail for the 2005
00:42murder of a San Fernando mechanic. Meanwhile, a 53-year-old man was shot in
00:47the leg by his police corporal wife, according to police. The husband and
00:51wife had an argument around 1240 a.m. on Friday during which the police officer
00:56withdrew her firearm and pointed it in the man's direction. The husband reported
01:02he became fearful for his life and then heard two loud explosions followed by a
01:06burning sensation on his left calf. He looked down to see blood flowing from
01:11the area. The man was taken to the Cuva Health Center where he was treated and
01:15transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital for further treatment.
01:19Meanwhile, three inmates of the Port of Spain Prison are expected to appear
01:22before High Court master next week, charged with possession of prohibited
01:27items contrary to the Prison Service Act. According to a statement from the TDPS,
01:31the three men were arrested and charged on Friday following an intelligence-led
01:36exercise at the prison on November 27th. The police say two prison cells were
01:42searched and several items were found including cannabis, cigarettes, blades,
01:46cellular phones, headsets, lighters, knives and chargers.
