Three men including a municipal police officer appeared before a San Fernando Master today charged with the murder of Acting Corporal Eversley and were also charged for robbery with violence, trafficking of firearms and possession of ammunition.

00:00Pre-trial publicity was raised by one of the attorneys for the three men charged with the murder of Police
00:05Corporal Anoushka Eversley at the Municipal Police Station in San Fernando two Sundays ago.
00:1128-year-old Municipal Police Officer Javan Briggs Cooper, along with 20-year-old construction worker Kwame Arnold and scrap
00:20iron dealer 24-year-old Nicholas Ramdas, all from Claxton Bay, also faced charges of robbing Eversley of a government
00:27-istued firearm and ammunition and using violence towards her.
00:32Master Delicia Bethelomew further read the charges of possession of 114 pistols, one revolver, six shotguns, two MPX submachine guns,
00:43173 firearm magazines for the purpose of trafficking, and the possession of 4,355 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 30 rounds
00:53of 12-gauge ammunition, and 10 rounds of .38 ammunition to them.
00:58Cooper was represented by attorney Keith Beckles, while attorney Chrysan Ramsaran was duty consul for Arnold and attorney Perusha Lord
01:07for Ramdas.
01:08The men were not called upon to plea to any of the charges.
01:13However, Cooper's attorney Keith Beckles raised the issue of pre-trial publicity and biasness towards his client.
01:20He said that after his client was arrested, he was not charged, but was served with a temporary detention order
01:26under the emergency powers' regulations.
01:29He said that Cooper's picture was circulated and he was identified as being a suspect in the matter.
01:34Beckles stated that, open quote,
01:37extensive and sensational misleading publicity throughout the social media atmosphere means that the intended jury pool, should we get there,
01:46may be prejudiced, close quote.
01:47He also raised the issue with the length of time the prosecution requested for the file to be submitted to
01:52the Director of Public Prosecutions.
01:55Police Prosecutor Reagan Ramanan said that he could not speak to what was published on social media.
02:01In relation to the submission of the file, he explained its voluminosity.
02:04He earlier stated that there were 20 statements and an expected minimum of 32 statements outstanding.
02:10Ramanan further outlined the exhibits in the matter including photographs, video footage, interview notes of the accused and a cyber
02:18crime unit report.
02:19Bethelmy made the schedule in order in the matter and the men are to next face the court on October
02:2415th.
02:25They were advised that they could apply for bail through writing to the court.
02:29Eversley was found dead at the municipal police station at Kings Wharf, San Fernando on the early morning of April
02:3419th.
02:35A post-mortem found that she was strangled and beaten.
