00:00Opposition Leader Penelope Beckels has waited on an issue that has become a focus of debate

00:06I made the point a while ago about Trinidad and Tobago being multicultural, multi-religious,
00:14multi-ethnic, and that is something that we celebrate as a country.
00:21But from time to time we admit that this issue of race can divide us.
00:26I mean I am calling on the government and the people of Trinidad and Tobago to recognize
00:32it doesn't help us as a country for us to put race in the forefront.
00:39The Opposition Leader fielded a question on the matter that has seen politicians on both
00:44sides of the political divide having their say following a leaked audio recording of an
00:49intercepted conversation which is now the subject of a police investigation to determine among
00:54other things how it was leaked.
00:56Opposition MP Colm Imbert fielded a question about the audio recording.

01:02I'm assuming that what is online is the tape.
01:06I'm assuming it's the whole tape.
01:08And as far as I recall the only reference to the PNM was a reference to one of our members
01:15in parliament saying that there were a number of persons who had been denied U.S. visas.
01:22That's the only reference I heard.
01:24I didn't hear anything else about the PNM.
01:27Maybe you did.
01:28The opposition leader sought to make clear her party's position.
01:50And there is solidarity among the PNM's MPs about another matter which the opposition leader said is the source of
01:58a separate leak.
01:59The people's national movement has absolutely nothing to hide as it relates to Ballysy House.
02:07So we find ourselves now where there's an unexplained wealth order done ex-party and it's dated the 10th of
02:20July 2026.
02:22Documents that are supposed to be kept under seal, we must ask ourselves, how did these documents get into the
02:34public domain that were filed under seal even before they were served?
02:42The opposition leader spoke about penalties under the 2019 civil asset recovery and unexplained wealth legislation.
02:51So the commission of police must tell us, how did these documents get into the public domain?
03:00As for the court order regarding the funding of the upgrade of Ballysy House, the opposition leader said the PNM
03:06has its legal team in place.
