00:04Maraval Road in Porto Spain last night and robbed patrons. However, at least one
00:09of the perpetrators has been held with police telling TV6 News that more
00:14arrests are imminent. The ordeal began at about 10.30 p.m. when a group of men
00:19entered the establishment and announced a hold-up. They relieved the group of
00:24diners, estimated to be about eight, of their cash, cellular phones and other
00:29items of value. The suspects then fled the scene by running towards the Queen's
00:34Park Savannah. The police were notified and a team of officers from the highway
00:39patrol unit responded. The officers were able to detain one of the men. The
00:45suspect's identity was then confirmed via CCTV camera footage from the
00:49restaurant. He has since been taken to the Port of Spain CID for questioning.
00:54Peter George, owner of the Trotters group, told TV6 that this was the first
01:00time in 23 years that the restaurant had been robbed. However, he praises the fast
01:06response of the police. He says the victims are doing okay and that the
01:11company had pledged to purchase new cellular phones and other items that were
01:15stolen during the ordeal.
01:25George thanked the police for their swift response with special mention of
01:31Road Safety Coordinator Sergeant Brent Batson.
01:54He also thanked Amalgamated Security Services for responding to the incident.
02:13Speaking on crime, George tells TV6 that the situation needs to be addressed but
02:19he does not believe it is yet untenable.
02:24The situation in the country is not absolutely and unequivocally untenable.
02:29It does not mean that we don't have a crisis, an absolute crisis in the country of crime.
02:37It has affected business. Business has been attenuated significantly as people
02:43just choose to stay home. So it needs to be addressed in multiple ways.
02:52George says that discussions will be had to determine how to enhance security
02:57features at Trotters in the immediate future.
