Following a series of robberies and the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Matthew Chancellor in Tabaquite over the weekend, police have decided to accede to the requests of the residents of the community to reopen the Brasso Police Station.

00:00This call appears to have been heard as this afternoon Acting Commissioner of
00:04Police Junior Benjamin confirmed that the Brasso Police Station would be
00:08reopened next week. I have good news for you today and I want to say early next
00:15week we will be opening the Brasso Police Station. He said that he had
00:19spoken to the senior officers of the district on the issue to ensure that the
00:23station would be up and running without incident. And we know that this will aid
00:29in bringing some relief to the citizens but more so we know that the very
00:34presence of the police will seek to at least have a reduction in crime and also
00:42to take away even some of the fear of crime. He also says that he hoped that
00:47the reopening of the police station would lead to increased police visibility
00:50in the area and faster responses by officers and as such would have a
00:55positive impact on crime. He also said that the San Rafael Police Station would
01:01be reopening soon however he could not give an exact date. Speaking with
01:06reporters after a fire alarm triggered the evacuation of the building, Benjamin
01:11said that he was unable to explain why the Brasso Police Station had been
01:15closed. He emphasized that this was not an original idea from his office but
01:20rather continuance of execution as plans were put in place to reopen the Brasso
01:25Police Station by suspended Commissioner of Police Euler Harewood
01:29Christopher. On Saturday morning, Chancellor was fatally shot near the
01:33Tabakeet Recreational Grounds. This followed a series of events and
01:37robberies which began on Friday night and saw several residents of the area
01:41being targeted at gunpoint. No one has been held for Chancellor's killing.
