00:00The man, the myth, the legend. There will only be one Brian Lara, the Prince of Porto, Spain.
00:06Mr. 400 not out, the 501 King.
00:10There's a long list of accolades to the man, enough to fill a book or books.
00:15This one's called the England Chronicles.
00:18Here is just a sample of his career in the sport of cricket in his life which is still being told.
00:24His work being shared and taught to the future generation of cricketers who could only dream of accomplishing what he has done.
00:31The Harvard gates opened at 8am.
00:34We were close to the top of the line, but some parents had come earlier.
00:38I don't know why I was dressed in white, because it was only registration day,
00:43but Roy Fredericks was my hero and I wanted to bat and look like him.
00:49So I had the long sleeve white shirt, buttons down the middle, sleeves down and buttoned,
00:55white slacks with fasteners at the side, and a pair of batter white shoes.
01:00Registration took some time, so I was left to wander around with the other kids.
01:06A couple of kids had brought bats and bows with them.
01:09I didn't have a fancy bat at the time.
01:11My coconut branch, shaped into a bat, wouldn't have gone down well with the big series of kids.
01:17It was a courtesy to extend an invitation to his home where he took the time to sign autographs.
01:22The Minister of Sport, Shampo Kojo, was also there to congratulate Lara on his achievement.
01:28And a former teammate and friend, Dwayne Bravo, would not miss the opportunity to ring in the moment.
01:34There are few Lara would credit for where he is today.
01:38I entered Fatima.
01:40I failed the exam as a Form 1 student, a finished Form 1 student from Samoan Secondary.
01:45And I had to repeat.
01:47But what my father created for me was a challenge in my academics that definitely served me well
01:53throughout my life on cricket fields, analyzing situations, and being brave to stand up to them.
02:00He made mention as well of Sir Vivian Richards.
02:03However, is this the last book?
02:06So, I believe that this history needs to be told on its own.
02:12And just to let you know, I've already written my time, my period against Australia.
02:20But I would let this, you know, get in.
02:25I tell you, enjoy this, and then we'll come out with the Australian version,
02:29which, of course, they are the fiercest competitors during my period.
02:33It's sure to be a good read.
