00:00Many are aware of the St. Mary's College grounds on Serpentine Road in St. Clair.
00:05It includes the school's indoor nets where children learn about the game.
00:09And newly housed in that building is the CIC Cricket Library which was opened on Thursday.
00:14Also gracing the venue with his presence was international cricketer Joshua De Silva.
00:18Those associated with the school had a part to play in starting the library
00:21with past student Nasser Khan donating the books.
00:24It's the combination of an effort between Mr. Aaron Kerbernali, the coach of our student,
00:32Mr. Rudy Barwant and many others in bringing this to fruition.
00:36We need to educate these students and knowing that I have these books that I'm now ready to part with,
00:45I thought I would throw it out to Aaron and of course we got it done and this here is the result.
00:51Cricket coach Aaron Kerbernali was extremely pleased with this initiative and gave it the thumbs up.
00:56Now the youngsters in the school interested in the sport can learn about the past heroes.
01:01We have a study session that we do with the boys just before they train.
01:06So we're going to use a couple of those hours before they train for them to use some of the books,
01:11read some of the books and then report back to us as to what they learned about whether a player.
01:16We also got some coaching books as well that Nasser donated.
01:19Rudy Barwant is the building administrator and former teacher at CIC.
01:24It means he will have a major role to play with the library.
01:27So we're very, very happy that we, on behalf of the college,
01:31that we have a library now to actually add to our playing facility.
01:36The playing facility was a big addition to our cricket infrastructure
01:38because there was no way with an indoor facility so we can now play cricket right through the air and at night.
01:44But we're very, very happy and as we know, this is going to help inspire.
01:50We are looking to see if this could help inspire, motivate our young players and the young current players and the generations to come.
01:56The silver too could not be left out as he is a past CIC student.
02:01For the West Indies, the keeper batter has 33 test caps.
02:04I for one wasn't one who always liked to read when I was in school.
02:08But yeah, hopefully one day my name or my biography could be in these books and the boys could be learning about me in the future.
02:14And yeah, I'll definitely take the time to come and read some of them and see what West Indies cricket had in the past and bring back to the future.
02:20Bevan Julian also attended the small ceremony in which a tribute was Pater's late dad Bernard Julian who was a World Cup winning All-Rounder with the West Indies.
02:29It was indeed a special moment for the younger Julian.
02:32Yeah, definitely honored to be here representing my dad.
02:36Although he isn't here to be around doing this right now,
02:41it means a lot to me that we have this cricket library opening at St. Mary's where I attended.
02:48I know I love books. I learn cricket from books.
02:53And I hope the students here will do the same and excel in any shape or fashion or form that they need.
03:00The cricket library was a gift from Khan who provided the resources free of cost.
03:05For him, it's a way of giving back to his former institution where he learned a lot.
03:09Vinod Nawani, Taves Expoort.
