Tragic news as two women died in a fire today at their Cunupia home.

Investigators have confirmed a mother and her daughter-in- law perished in the flames after being trapped in the gallery of their home. One male occupant, the son of the elder woman and husband of the younger barely escaped.

00:00The flames tore quickly through the house at Mong Plaza Road, Persaud Avenue in Kunupia
00:08this morning, with residents helpless to do anything to help those trapped inside.
00:14Sadly, 30-year-old Ambika Ali and her mother-in-law, 54-year-old Angela Ali, died in the fire.
00:21Investigators say that around 11am, Richard Daniel heard screams coming from the house
00:25of his neighbour, Nizam Ali.
00:28Screams and thick smoke were bellowing out of the western side of Ali's home.
00:32Daniel alerted other neighbours and ran across to the home where he met Jeremy Ali, 29, who
00:37told them that his mother, Angela Ali, and sister-in-law, Ambika Ali, were trapped inside
00:42the house.
00:44Several neighbours were able to safely get Jeremy Ali out of the house, but because of
00:48the raging flames, were unable to get to his sister-in-law and mother, trapped on the northern
00:53side of the house.
00:54A team of firefighters from the Chagonas Fire Station responded to the distress call.
00:59While extinguishing the blaze, they found the charred remains of the women in the gallery
01:03on the northern side of the house.
01:06Ambika Ali's aunt said they were still trying to piece together what had happened, but it
01:11would truly be a sad day for Ambika's husband, Javed, who would not forget since he was celebrating
01:17his birthday and had left home briefly to go to Europe as they had made plans for birthday
01:22celebrations on Saturday.
01:47Investigators say they are yet to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
