A 34-year-old Barrackpore mother of four and her 1-year-old baby girl were killed by a close male relative on Tuesday morning.

Investigators say it appeared that both victims’ throats were slit.

They were found dead on a mattress at the suspect’s Location road, Barrackpore home.

When our reporter Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh went to the scene of the brutal double murder on Tuesday, relatives told her that the woman suffered years of abuse and ended a relationship with the suspect months ago.

00:15Around 11 am on Tuesday, 34-year-old Tara Geeta Ramsaroop and her baby, one-year-old
00:22Jada Motilal, were found dead inside this house along Location Road, Bharagpur.
00:29Their throats appeared to be slit, their lifeless bodies on a mattress in the bedroom of a close
00:35male relative's home.
00:37He killed our little baby.
00:38He had a heart.
00:40Rajaram says her sister suffered years of abuse by the suspect, but an incident seven
00:46months ago finally made her leave.
00:49And about seven months ago, he was beating her badly and she called me.
00:53And when I come to pick her up, he was beating her and dragging her from the hill.

01:05Why are you beating my sister for?
01:07He said, she's my wife and I can beat her how I want.
01:11She says despite leaving, the man would often attack her sister at her new home and multiple
01:17police reports were made.
01:19We just work in the evening.
01:21So when she go home in the night, he jump over her house and wait in her bed for her.
01:28Put a blade over her neck and when she make the report, they never do nothing because
01:33they can never find him.
01:34The man sitting on the right, the police stop right there.
01:38And the man run and they never do nothing.
01:40They let him run away.
01:41I always tell my sister, I said the day they kill you and kill your children, then you
01:45can see the police and so said, so done.
01:48She says her sister was dropping off her older son at his school when the suspect approached
01:53her and somehow got her to return to his home on Tuesday.
01:58Relatives of the 30-year-old suspect say he collected a piece of rope from a relative's
02:03home later on.
02:05They believe he intended to also take his own life.
02:09When he don't know, he say, well, mommy, all you want to see what I do, I'll kill you and
02:16kill your child.
02:17However, officers were able to detain him in the Barakpore area.
02:22He remains in police custody tonight.
02:25The victim's sister urged women in abusive relationships who leave to never go back.
02:32These young people out here think that abuse is love.
02:36It's not love.
02:37And they keep thinking that the husband going to change, they wouldn't change.
02:42They would never change.
02:44I would say once you come out of a relationship, they're right there.
