Two homes were destroyed by a fire early Tuesday morning leaving four people homeless.

The fire broke out at the home of a Ste Madeleine pensioner and quickly spread to her neighbour’s house.

Both families are pleading for any help they can get to rebuild their homes.

Our reporter Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh visited both families and tells us what happened.

00:00Fire, just fire, and it's blowing towards the back of the house.
00:05So the fire started in the back of her house and it spread to the back of my house.
00:1061-year-old Ina Harry lived here along First Street, Corinth Settlement, St. Madeleine,
00:16with her husband and grandson, a home that, after more than 30 years,
00:21burned to the ground around 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday
00:25when it caught fire from a blaze originating at her next-door neighbor's house.
00:4467-year-old Rashida Mohammed says she has no idea what might have ignited the blaze
00:50which consumed all of her belongings.
00:53In a way, she says she believes she was warned about Tuesday's tragedy.
01:23Next door, the Harrys say they tried desperately to stop the spread from affecting their home,
01:29but the blaze was too aggressive.
01:54She says the fire service took about 20 minutes to reach the scene,
01:58and when they did, focus was placed on Mohammed's home,
02:02and within an hour, both houses crumbled.
02:23I just do a little landscaping, right? I am unemployed. I'm a heart patient.
02:30So I cannot work, and I would gladly like to get any help of this sort from anybody,
02:38especially to build back my house.
