00:00When fire broke out around 7 a.m. at a home along Thompson Street extension
00:05Gasparillo, neighbors rushed over to help but despite their best efforts the
00:11life of 79 year old Hollister Hamilton who was bedridden could not be saved.
00:18The other house went up on the roof and took bucket by bucket of water and dashed it
00:23on the neighbor's house. I have a fire extinguisher in my house and by the time they pick up the fire
00:27extinguisher and turn around the house was in flame already. So it's a bored house, one light
00:32that there, they couldn't, they tried their best to save the person but they couldn't.
00:38According to another neighbor Hamilton's common-law wife is being treated at
00:43hospital for burns she sustained about her body after trying desperately to get
00:48him out. The only other occupant in the home at the time her daughter was able
00:54to escape unhurt. When auntie Dye was inside and she's shouting out for him
00:58remember uncle cannot move he's bedridden so he cannot move so she's
01:04trying to get him out but in the aftermath of her getting, trying to get
01:07him out she was burnt as well on her hands and her chest and the back of her
01:12neck and along here was burnt from what I saw and well she tried but the heat was
01:20too much so I couldn't go inside so it was just get her out first. She says they
01:24could hear the man's screams for help but there was nothing more they could do.
01:28When I was trying to get inside you were hearing him crying out he was crying out
01:33for somebody and she was screaming at him to try to move but remember he can't
01:38really move but can't really do anything other than just watch as the house burned down.
01:46Five adults and two young children live here but at the time of the fire two
01:51adults and the children had already left for work and school. Residents say the
01:56fire services response time was good and the neighbors actions were swift but the
02:02blaze spread too rapidly and within no time the home was destroyed and Mr.
02:07Hamilton's life lost along with it. Fire officials say the fire is believed to
02:12have started in one of the bedrooms and while the cause is still undetermined
02:17preliminary investigations suggest it was accidental.
