Transcript
00:00It's that time again, Boca's time.
00:03The country's biggest literacy festival, the Boca's Lit Fest, is all set and ready.
00:08Well, almost, for its commencement on May 1st.
00:12Now in its 15th year, the Boca's Lit Festival finally has a place to call home at the Writers
00:17Center on Alcazar Street in Port of Spain.
00:20CEO of the Boca's Lit Fest, Jean-Claude Cunard, says the festival provides a much-needed space
00:26for writers and aspiring writers to sharpen their skills and display their talents.
00:31Boca's Lit Fest has been invested in creating a space for Caribbean literature in the world,
00:39in the entire world.
00:40And to do that effectively, we have to create a physical space for ourselves as an organization
00:47within this society.
00:48We don't want to just have a home for having a homesick.
00:52We want to have the kind of home that is bustling with activity and life, the kind
00:57of place that has a buzz and enriches the lives of everyone that walks through its doors.
01:03That is why we are committed not just to running a festival, but to programming a lively schedule
01:09of year-round activities.
01:12TV6's parent company, One Caribbean Media, continues to be one of the main sponsors of
01:18the festival, and its group marketing manager, Marcus Chin Ali Young, stressed on the importance
01:24of this year's theme, Always Coming Home.
01:27It resonates deeply with us at the OCM Group.
01:30Drawn from the evocative words of author Richard Georges, whose work won the OCM Boca's Prize
01:36in 2020, this theme speaks to the heart of what this festival represents.
01:42It is a homecoming, a return to the stories, ideas, and cultures that shape who we are.
01:50For 15 years, the Boca's Lit Fest has been more than just an event.
01:53It has been a movement.
01:55It has nurtured emerging writers, celebrated established voices, and provided a space for
02:01the Caribbean literary community to thrive.
02:04The festival runs from May 1st to May 4th.
