00:00 Vice President of the International Women's Forum of TNT, Anna Maria Garcia-Brooks, says
00:06 there were 60 nominees in the fields of medicine, law, science, business, art, entrepreneurship,
00:11 human development and community building.
00:14 So close with the scores that in one category, one point separated the honoree from her nearest
00:24 rival.
00:27 After what were extensive deliberations, three women were recognized at the Inspirational
00:31 Women Awards Gala 2023.
00:34 Dr. Diana Mahabir Wyatt, the founder of The Shelter, which is a safe haven for female
00:40 victims of domestic violence, was given the Inspirational Champion of Women Award.
00:45 Her work has taken the form of counseling, psychometric testing and advancing labor legislation,
00:50 to name a few areas.
00:51 Dr. Mahabir Wyatt says TNT has a lot to be grateful for, noting that some countries have
00:57 serious conflicts over religion, racism and other ills.
01:01 As to what the award means?
01:03 And I know I am in the last few years of my life.
01:09 It is what somebody told me to consider harvest time.
01:16 And tonight is for me harvest.
01:22 It is just being here with people I admire.
01:27 Professor Rosemary Bell Antwine is the principal of U.E. St. Augustine.
01:31 But more than that, she's an advocate in many areas, including labor rights, gender justice
01:36 and the rights of indigenous peoples.
01:38 At present, she's advocating for the rights of female prisoners who have been victims
01:42 of domestic violence and are on remand accused of murder.
01:47 Professor Antwine has copped the Inspirational Advocate Award.
01:51 Whether racism or equal playing fields in finance or health or marijuana.
01:57 Yes, I've been called a change agent by some and an activist by others.
02:03 But my single focus has always been simply to improve the status quo.
02:09 As the founder of Chosen Hands, a non-profit organization, Anika and her team are dedicated
02:15 to making a positive impact.
02:17 Anika Plowden-Corinton is an artist and the founder of the NGO Chosen Hands.
02:22 The organization focuses on impacting at-risk youth.
02:25 She has been given the Inspirational Emerging Leader Award.
02:28 She sees the award as an affirmation to keep going.
02:32 It provides an opportunity to continue the discourse of how creativity and art can be
02:37 used as a vehicle to empower economically disadvantaged and at-risk youth.
02:44 How art can be used as a tool to break down barriers and to tackle tough topics.
02:49 The IWFTT says this celebration of women sends a message that dreams are not limited by gender,
02:56 nor are they bound by societal norms.
02:59 And women have proven that they can effect change in the midst of adversity.
03:04 President of IWFTT, Joanne Salaza, calls it a shared responsibility.
03:09 Men in their roles as fathers, teachers, leaders and legislators play an integral part in advancing
03:20 women's leadership.
03:22 When men become allies, advocates and mentors for women, ensuring that girls and women inherit
03:31 their birthright of an equitable place in the world, incredible things happen.
03:38 IWFTT is part of the global body IWF, of which more than a thousand women from 33 different
03:48 countries are a part.
03:50 The three awardees have been inducted into the IWFTT's Hall of Fame.
