Trevor Zegras gets one of the most ridiculous penalties ever

Philadelphia Flyers forward Trevor Zegras became the center of attention during the team’s preseason matchup against the Boston Bruins after receiving a surprising two-minute penalty.

Zegras was sent to the penalty box for delay of game because his jersey was tucked into his pants, which officials ruled as “improperly wearing equipment.” The Flyers went on to win the game 2-0, but the unusual penalty quickly became the biggest talking point.

The NHL has instructed officials to enforce equipment rules more strictly this season, covering items such as jerseys, visors and neck guards. Zegras reportedly received a warning before the penalty, meaning another violation could have resulted in a game misconduct.

Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet said the team had been informed about the stricter enforcement several weeks earlier. While the rule technically applies, the incident drew attention because this particular violation is rarely seen enforced during games.
