00:00There's always a lot of stuff about big, bad Cleveland media.
00:02Cleveland media is so mean.
00:03What quarterback would want to be here?
00:05Usually it's been from Baker fans when he first got here
00:09or Johnny fans when he first got here or Odell fans.
00:12If we're talking non-QBs, it's also said about Baishador fans,
00:16about how mean the Cleveland media is and how nasty we are.
00:20I got to tell you, I don't think I've ever heard,
00:22and I'd have to go back in my memory here.
00:25I don't think I've ever heard Cleveland media attack a quarterback
00:31like Cam Ward seemingly.
00:33I felt it almost sounded personal here.
00:37This is from Paul Kaharski to Cam Ward yesterday.
00:41You had him on?
00:42I think I'm a very good quarterback.
00:43I think I do a lot of things different that a lot of quarterbacks can't do.
00:46It's also stuff that I have to get better at as some things that I lack.
00:50That's a process that you take on each and every day.
00:52I have great coaches around me to continue to push me to that level
00:55that I want to play at.
00:57When the tide turns, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a different story.
01:01Doesn't a very good NFL quarterback have better results than you have?
01:05I think it comes with the game.
01:06It comes with the defensive plan.
01:08It comes with what the D.C.'s philosophy is.
01:12Every game is not going to be a shootout.
01:13Every game is going to be a bad pass rate.
01:15It could be a bad completion ratio, but it's all about the win and loss.
01:19We haven't done that, and that's something that we only focus on
01:21is winning and losing.
01:23So, it's jumping right back in at the end.
01:25Like, this is at the end, and he's done this before.
01:29And it's almost sounding a little bit personal towards Cam Ward
01:31in certain ways.
01:33I'm like, I don't know what happened here before that.
01:36You're taking shots at him being a bad quarterback.
01:39Okay.
01:40I know it's not the way it used to be.
01:42You go back and look at some of the stuff in the 80s,
01:46and hosting shows, there would be coaches' shows.
01:49It's like, we're going to come right out and talk about your job
01:51and your job safety.
01:52It was like, whoa, he wouldn't do this anymore.
01:55And I know this is a press conference.
01:57It was like, boy, Cam Ward's getting hammered down there.
02:00And I don't think he has a whole lot to work with down there.
02:02He's got wide receivers, but you still need to put another,
02:04you've got to put guys around him also to protect him.
02:07And I will tell you this, the show quarterback shaped my opinion
02:12of Cam Ward a little bit.
02:13I like Cam Ward coming out of college.
02:15There's also where I got to root for the Titans to get things turned around here.
02:18I do not want them in the market for QBs.
02:20He is 3-15 as a starter.
02:23But you knew it was going to be a rough start.
02:25They were terrible.
02:26Right.
02:26And you're looking for, in year two, to make a big-time leap.
02:32You know, you've seen the guys that are good in year one come back to the pack
02:34in year two, we've also seen guys be bad in year one,
02:36and then start to make some big gains.
02:39The game starts to slow down.
02:40You're playing against guys that could be younger than you now
02:42in that second year.
02:43And it was abysmal, obviously, in week one.
02:46Now it's just one game, and they're going to be on a similar clock.
02:50I mean, I think we know this.
02:51Like, he has to get it turned around, you know, this year at some point
02:56to discourage the Titans and their brass from going into this draft
03:01to get a quarterback.
03:03Like, that's what you get now.
03:05You get two years in the NFL.
03:06That's why we talk about that with Shador all the time.
03:08He was a fifth-round pick.
03:10This was the number one overall pick.
03:12Like, they've got a significant investment in him,
03:14and yet that will not stop them from going back into the quarterback pool
03:19if they are bad this year and have a top-five pick.
03:22As of right now, like, if you ended up with number one, two, and three,
03:25is it still three quarterbacks and then Jeremiah Smith?
03:28Yeah.
03:28It's only been a couple of weeks.
03:30It's only been a couple of weeks, and why –
03:32And I know at 920 we'll do our quarter –
03:33because I'm not doing rankings, and you guys are killing me for it.
03:36We'll talk about that.
03:37Not the listeners.
03:38I'm talking about you guys in the room.
03:39Go ahead.
03:40As much as Jeremiah Smith, to me, is clearly the best football player
03:43in the country, he's not going to go number one.
03:47He's not going number two.
03:48He's probably not going number three.
03:50You know, and we've seen drafts like that before where it's just across the board,
03:53quarterback, quarterback, quarterback, to start out your draft.
03:55And I have a strong feeling with as many bad teams that don't have quarterbacks this year
04:00that there will be that ascension, you know, that quarterback creep to the top of the draft.
04:08That's absolutely going to happen.
04:10Then somebody's going to get a steal when they get Jeremiah Smith,
04:12the best pass rusher, available at like five or six.
04:16That'll be a total steal, whoever gets that.
04:18Because right now you're looking at Arch, you're looking at Dante.
04:21I think C.J. Carr is still up there.
04:23I mean, he's 6'3".
04:24But I don't know what I'm going to see with C.J. Carr.
04:28The schedule's not that hard.
04:29Like, I'm going to the Notre Dame game against Boston College.
04:32I'm not ready to put C.J. Carr in that group.
04:34Ments is definitely in that mix.
04:37That's four guys, but I don't know.
04:38Like, once you get past the first three, then I think you get to Jeremiah Smith land.
04:43But I want Cam Ward to do well because I like Cam Ward to begin with.
04:48I just thought, I was like, man, this is already getting pretty ugly here.
04:51And I just don't see any of the stuff.
04:53Like, usually we pay attention to this.
04:55Has he been flamethrowing himself?
04:57Like, has he been going after anybody?
04:59Has he popped off or anything like that?
05:01Like, he's not sticking his foot in his mouth.
05:04And I think that, yeah, it's probably a bit frustrating.
05:06And they're still not a great football team altogether.
05:10So you're going to have to put protection around that guy.
05:13All right, let's get to the phones.
05:142-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
05:15We got a game coming up on Sunday.
05:17We also have Guardians coming up.
05:18We'll get more into them.
05:19And the A's coming up here in a little bit.
05:20However, you got this game coming up on Sunday.
05:23And I think some fans are torn right now because our social media is just going nuts about how to
05:28take in this game if you're a Browns fan.
05:30I want to get to Matt in Northern Virginia.
05:31He's listening on the Free Odyssey app.
05:33Hello, Matt.
05:35Ken, Anthony, what's going on, man?
05:37Happy Friday.
05:38Same to you.
05:39Go right on ahead.
05:40From your lips to God's ears.
05:42I am extremely torn as a Browns fan.
05:45I don't know whether to root for these guys to win or to just hope they get absolutely smoked and
05:53hope we never have to see Deshaun Watson step on a Browns field again.
05:57I want to get your guys' opinion on the matter.
06:00Should I root for them to win or should I hope they get blown out?
06:02The existential question.
06:04Let me answer your question with a question.
06:08I like when you do that, Kenny.
06:09Do you think that they're going to win?
06:13The Browns.
06:15You know, the way it would go is Browns, with our luck, Deshaun's going to go out there and he
06:19is going to throw for 400 yards and five touchdowns.
06:22Come on.
06:22Let's be honest, though.
06:23Do you think he's going to win?
06:24Do you think they're going to win?
06:25No chance.
06:26Okay.
06:26If you can look yourself in the mirror and say they have no chance, then go ahead and root for
06:30them to win because you don't think it's going to happen.
06:33That's the best I can meet you halfway.
06:34Here's what I will say, Matt.
06:35And I said this in the lead up to the opener.
06:38Matt, thank you very much for the call.
06:39It's a hell of a conundrum.
06:40The one thing if you do, if you just take Deshaun Watson out of the equation, impossible to do.
06:45I get it.
06:45There's a lot of vitriol.
06:46And he's earned almost 100% of it.
06:50I guess I'd just say 100% of it at this point.
06:53But you do realize, if Deshaun Watson plays well, what are we saying about the offensive line?
06:59What are we saying about Harold Fannin Jr.?
07:01What are we saying about Quitshawn Junkins?
07:03What are we saying about the defense?
07:05What are we saying about the wide receivers?
07:07You will have such a more positive look.
07:10And plus, you get to see Baker Mayfield go down.
07:14I know not everybody wants to see that.
07:15But, you know, if you were over Baker at the end, if you think he's overrated, if you're like, well,
07:21he's a 500 quarterback in his career, he wasn't the answer anyway.
07:24All right, well, if you get a win this week, it further cements at least that you've got some things
07:31to be positive about, even if you hate Deshaun Watson.
07:34In the past, I could sit here and tell you.
07:36And I'm actually going to have a defense of him and his family coming up in a bit.
07:40Because I was shown something this morning, and I did not like some of the responses to it.
07:46I thought it was a bit overboard.
07:49In the past, you could root against a guy, and I would go, you can't be doing that.
07:54You can't root against your own team.
07:56You can't root against your own coach.
07:58And people would say, no, you're wrong.
08:00I want him to do better than these guys.
08:02So the only way to get rid of these guys is to root against these guys.
08:06And I'm like, well, they'll mess up anyway.
08:07If you have that little faith, they'll mess up anyway.
08:11This is a different animal.
08:12This is a guy who went back after you.
08:15All right?
08:16You didn't want him in the first place.
08:17You know he did not want to be here.
08:20This is business.
08:21If you had a business partner, and that business partner failed to meet their end, you would go after that
08:28person.
08:28You'd sue him.
08:29You'd go after that person.
08:30You'd drag their name through the mud.
08:32This is a business agreement between the Browns and Deshaun Watson.
08:37We didn't draft him.
08:38He didn't want to be here.
08:39This is about money.
08:41And we knew it.
08:42It's one thing for the fans to say it.
08:44It's basically another thing for him to come out and admit it.
08:47Went after the fans after the Bills game.
08:50Every time he goes up to the podium, he sticks his foot in his mouth anymore.
08:54It sounds like he doesn't want to be here.
08:56It's worse every time.
08:57It sounds like he's at the end.
08:57And there's plenty of Browns fans going, I'm a Browns fan, Ken.
09:01Enough is enough.
09:03And if he never said anything, I could sit here and go, guys, come on.
09:07He plays for the Cleveland Browns.
09:09I'm still going to hold myself accountable and say I'm still going to want the Browns team to win.
09:13But I'm not picking them to win.
09:14And there's plenty of people going, Kenny, if you're not picking them to win, then if they're going to lose,
09:20then they better really lose.
09:22Because it's going to be on him.
09:24Okay.
09:25I just got to deal with it.
09:27I wonder, Kenny, if now there are people that want to go to that game and want him to start
09:32in week three.
09:32And they want to be a part of history and closing the book once and for all.
09:37I'm telling you right now, if he does not play well on Sunday, he ain't playing in week three.
09:41He ain't starting for the Browns in week three.
09:44So maybe those people will be rooting for him to play just well enough so he gets one more week.
09:48Because they want to let him have it.
09:50They want to let him have it.
09:51They do.
09:53This is the punishment.
09:55That's a little much.
09:56He didn't get punished by authorities.
09:58The NFL didn't suspend them, but they want more than that.
10:01But now you're doing things against your own football team.
10:03Now you really are going against your own football team.
10:05That would suck for his teammates.
10:06That would suck.
10:07There's plenty of guys there that you can like.
10:09We don't need to go doing these things.
10:11You'll turn around and say the Browns are responsible for this.
10:13Sorry.
10:14Sorry all these young players that we love and want to love and want to embrace, want to hug.
10:18But for one game, one game only, we want the book to close once and for all.
10:21On one of the ugliest chapters in Browns history.
