00:00I think Munkin is really he's got so much experience and he is so smart about understanding
00:06that Munkin doesn't really name the starting quarterback it's the locker room right you need
00:12permission from your locker room to be able to name the starting quarterback well what did he
00:16say again today the line he said like seven times already uh the players will decide who plays he
00:21keeps following back on that the players will decide who plays and listen I think some people
00:25might hear that oh well Deshaun decides who plays and Shador no no no no yes they have they have
00:30a
00:30huge say in this but both of those guys ability to win over their teammates that is going to be
00:37crucial here and that really is like when Todd Munkin says who gives us the best chance to win
00:43all that is is a guy that people believe in more than the other guy and and that will happen
00:49I just
00:50think that takes time when you have Deshaun and what I think is still coming off that shoulder
00:56with the Achilles and and honestly there are guys in that locker room that have seen him play some
01:01bad football there I think he's got to earn that in a different way than Shador who's got to kind
01:07of
01:07show hey the thing you saw last at the end of last year I I've now built on that and
01:12I'm better than
01:12that so they have they have different things to prove and I by the way different things to even
01:17prove to the organization beyond the locker room but yeah I think it would make sense that this
01:21takes a significant amount of time into maybe multiple preseason games so buckle up it's funny
01:27I saw this clip of Aaron Rodgers uh yesterday going around and it's it's him talking about how in
01:32practices this is when you want to make the mistakes this is when you get away with making
01:35the mistakes like you want to you you want to test what you can and cannot do on a football
01:39field and
01:39what throws you can make and what throws you can't make and I would say when it comes to Shador
01:43and
01:44Sean the one thing they are kind of robbed of within this process is I I don't know that you
01:48get to do that same line of thinking oh I don't know like if you're if you're trying to win
01:52over
01:52the teammates in the process from what you're describing I don't know that you get to just
01:55throw balls away or necessarily uh try to push your boundaries I do think they have to treat these
01:59practices like they're games and I do think they have to try to uh make sure they impress at all
02:03times
02:04it's a different mentality than what we're typically used to in this I think what's interesting is you're
02:08just trying to prove that you're capable of the job and I like I feel like if you're trying to
02:12think like I've got to prove I'm better than the guy to the left of me I think you're going
02:16to end
02:17up going full plaques Coburus and shooting yourself in the foot like I just I think you just have to
02:21go out there if you said and if I'm taking what you said at actual face value here that you
02:26have
02:26to win over the locker room uh winning over the locker room is playing your best and making the
02:30right football throws at all times not necessarily trying to push what you can do from a football
02:34perspective to maybe get better for week four I don't think you just went over the locker room just by
02:39playing well I think you went over the locker room by how you comport yourself during this and that is
02:45uh if you have a mistake are you blaming it on somebody else or you take an ownership that is
02:50are you the same guy and I know I hate this cliche because we ruined it with Kevin Stefanski are
02:55you
02:56the same guy in and out that they can rely on if they have a problem are you there for
03:00them like I
03:01don't think it's just on the field I think a lot of it is on the field though uh I
03:04think I agree with
03:05the idea that it's not a hundred percent of what you do on the field but I think it's a
03:08lot of it
03:08and I think if uh like Deshaun throws these couple interceptions to start off he keeps throwing
03:12interceptions and Jador is throwing 40 yard dimes and is making all the right throws like it doesn't
03:18matter what the leadership side of things are he's going to win that job I think this is where the
03:21thing we don't see matters more and we don't we don't necessarily realize it because we don't see it
03:26but like yeah I think the I think the work they're putting in outside of here uh and and I
03:32think
03:32the Browns have kind of made it seem like well we want to see uh Shador work for it right
03:37what the guy looks like in the film room I know that's a boring non-sexy answer because I can't
03:42point it out to you on the field but I do think that matters tremendously here the good thing about
03:46this is that we not only have 10 practices in 11 days we have over six weeks a million opportunities
03:53that you're going to be able to showcase on the field who the better quarterback actually is if they
03:57really do split the reps and take it the way that we're talking about you're going to be able to
04:01see
04:01all that now if they fall short in some of the other stuff you're talking about the video component
04:05to it and some of the leadership stuff maybe that's where a tie goes to the runner situation
04:09comes in but like I think it's going to be pretty apparent which one is the better quarterback at
04:12the end of this 216-474-0092 um I just think it's going to be really interesting because I think
04:21again if you go by the players you can't really be wrong the the guy you you name the starter
04:27might
04:28not succeed that's not the point the point is the the way you give this team a chance to go
04:33past
04:34what Vegas says they're going to be what what past everybody else says they're going to be is to give
04:39the guy that the locker room buys in the most and I gotta be honest with you I think if
04:45you went out
04:45there and you were uh trying things giving yourself permission to fail in practice I think that's a way
04:52you kind of give everybody a chance I think every day is an audition and I feel like the the
04:56biggest
04:57way to showcase to your teammates that you got a handle on this and you can make all the plays
05:00is you got to make the plays during these times and so I I just I think you're the disadvantage
05:05you
05:05have in this is that you're not going to be able to do what Aaron Rodgers is suggesting and making
05:09some of those mistakes and making some of those this will help me in week seven or week eight I
05:13think you got to lay it all out there every single time right now I'll actually give you the
05:16example that I was thinking about as you were talking about it yeah uh if you don't take those
05:22opportunities in practice you're going to be Dylan Gabriel and Dylan Gabriel and honestly I think
05:27this happened with Flacco too last year um I think the coaches got so far into the quarterback's head
05:33last year that I don't think they ever got to the point they could just go out there practice the
05:38way
05:38they want to play and so why by the time he got to playing I think they were all too
05:43uptight and all
05:44too in their own head I mean I would think this is a part of the disadvantage of having a
05:47quarterback
05:47competition in general is you're not again you're not able to do some of the things we're discussing
05:51you are at a disadvantage because of that it doesn't make you all of a sudden Dylan Gabriel
05:54did today where he's throwing two interceptions and then what's the takeaway from the team I think
05:58you and I care more about an interception in practice I don't I guarantee you none of those
06:02other players are thinking oh that's one down oh I doubt that I doubt that completely like if
06:07they're monitoring this the way that we've been describing and the way they're keeping track of
06:10these days they aren't maybe they know but they know this is all part of who can play and who
06:14can't
06:15play if you're showing already have a starting quarterback then you'd be right but when it's
06:18a quarterback competition every one of these practices is treated almost like your Super Bowl
06:22no I think this is where you got day in day out you got to showcase what you can do
06:26and this is
06:26the part where you do get hurt a little bit in this in this competition I firmly do believe that
06:31but you have to showcase your best every single day I don't want to guarantee anything because of
06:35these are just our opinions here but I would be very surprised if going off that field on one day
06:41Denzel's like yep Shador's ahead 11 days out of these 10 practices if Shador's the better
06:46quarterback or let's even say Deshaun's a better quarterback for eight or nine of them
06:49it's gonna that's gonna resonate that's gonna sit with the players it's not gonna be this like oh I
06:54I don't know I don't have a thought on it like no you're gonna it's gonna be obvious uh I
06:58obvious
06:59is just a word I just I I think that's a media creation I think the idea that anything is
07:03obvious in
07:04sports um I think players are gonna lean a specific way and it and again I don't think it's gonna
07:10be
07:10unanimous either but like you're almost making it sound like why do we even do the practice no
07:15this is a presidential election like you you want to get the populist vote and then I guess the
07:21coaches here are the electoral college like you gotta you just gotta try and win the majority
07:25that's pretty much what you're just trying to do and again like I guarantee you five days from now
07:31Deshaun's interceptions he's the first two interceptions aren't gonna matter unless he's
07:35throwing every interception in every practice but like I did I just think players have so much
07:40going on in the short amount of time it's just so damn hard to be this good at football and
07:46to
07:46get ready to play no matter how much time they have they're packing in a lot no I think I
07:52feel
07:52like it's almost like in the NBA ask any NBA player they'll tell you the guys that can play
07:56and can't play I feel like that works similar in the NFL in many respects they know the guys that
08:00can
08:00play and can't play at the end of the day but that's a yes or no if they just don't
08:03believe in
08:04that your door has no chance at this if they don't think Deshaun can play anymore then Deshaun
08:09has no chance in this that's I but again like I just don't think it's going to be as cut
08:14and dry
08:14like the obvious that word obvious I don't think it's ever that obvious I think I think you're going
08:19to get a lot of split opinions in that locker room few matter more than others and and again
08:26by consensus meaning a majority of players are going to be able to say it I don't think it's going
08:31to
08:31be if you 54 man roster I don't think all 54 are going to be like Deshaun no but I
08:36do think but I
08:37do think they're going to be able to tell uh based off of who's actually having the better practices
08:41and then who's actually putting it in now maybe maybe it's a wash maybe out of the 11 or 10
08:46practices it's split down the middle but the idea that you could be taking chances and just throwing
08:51balls down the field uh to try to stretch what you can do I I just these are your Super
08:56Bowls these
08:56practices when you're going for a job like every every throw has to matter every rep has to matter
09:01so it's I think maybe that's where the disagreement is I think I think the tot the totality of it
09:07does matter but I think the idea that every if if anyone of especially Shador if Shador is putting
09:14if Shador's thinking this is my last chance this could be my last chance in the NFL I've got to
09:19make
09:19every throw count um I think that boomerangs back on you and hurts you more than it helps you
09:26and even Deshaun like this could very well be Deshaun's last stand in the NFL if instead of
09:31him being confident and ready like he appears to be in the videos right if he's thinking oh I just
09:36threw two interceptions I'm screwed well congratulations you got some pressure uh and
09:40which is you're going to have when you actually get the job if you get the job like like I'm
09:43sorry
09:43you can't you can't handle any pressure in training camp no am I supposed to throw you out
09:47there on week one no I don't think great listen they don't like to to fail that's what I'm saying
09:52but like I think these guys understand hey I made that bad play better go make another one
09:58I think you're putting pressure on them that I'm sure there's some in like a nebulous way I would
10:03imagine they have some pressure I imagine it's not pressure free but that's kind of the point but
10:07if they think like I gotta live and die with every play nobody's ever said no no one said it's
10:12living
10:13and dying with every throw well you just said you just suggested that they they're going to be like
10:16I wasn't no I'm saying I'm saying this is you don't get to you don't get to make the same
10:21mistakes that Aaron Rodgers gets to make a camp that's the overarching point every one of these
10:24practices is going to be like a super and I think that yeah but it doesn't mean you can't even
10:27in a
10:28super bowl you can make an interception and bounce back and make a good throw it doesn't mean the
10:31interception crumbles you for the day but ultimately yeah you're you're probably going to make the
10:36throws that make you look the best you're probably going to display the opportunities that you have to
10:40make you look the best in this as you should and I think what you'd end up looking at is
10:44going to be a big
10:45part of all this and deciding who actually gets the job
