00:00Hello there, welcome to your week ahead weather forecast from the Met Office.
00:04Before I give you some detail of the weather through the next few days, let's take a look at the
00:08bigger picture.
00:09Because the pattern is interesting, we do have mobility just across the North Atlantic, further south we've got this area
00:17of high pressure anchored towards the Azores.
00:19Now we've seen some high temperatures and some high humidity through Monday and into the early hours of Tuesday,
00:25but that's clearing away now as the weather front through the next 24 hours will clear towards the near continent.
00:32And then this pattern continues as we see low pressure systems develop, extend from Greenland towards Iceland,
00:39always towards the North there and affecting the UK through Wednesday into Thursday.
00:44So further strong winds, outbreaks of rain, heavy showers have followed, the risk of thunder.
00:48And low pressure as we head through the latter part of the week is towards the North of Scotland.
00:53And again, notice that squeeze on the ice bars, further wet weather is likely.
00:57Some brighter breaks coming through from time to time and you'll notice that as we head through the detail right
01:02now.
01:03So through Tuesday morning, here's that weather front.
01:06This was across Scotland through Monday night across Northern Ireland and it has pushed southwards.
01:11Now it looks like a fairly weakening feature with a fair amount of cloud, but it could pep up through
01:16the latter part of the day
01:17and we could see a little bit more in the way of showery bursts as it gradually clears.
01:22At the same time, there is a clearance coming in with some sunshine by lunchtime across much of England and
01:27Wales.
01:27A few showers drifting in as well.
01:30It's been quite a brisk breeze across West Wales as well as the West Country,
01:33but stronger winds across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
01:36And notice the strongest winds will be across the northeast of Scotland through the afternoon
01:41with further spells of fairly persistent wet weather.
01:45Showers elsewhere in the north and these, we'll see with it, the risk of thunder, perhaps the odd lightning strike
01:51as well.
01:52So they are heavy in places and a cool northwest wind making it feel rather fresh through the afternoon.
01:58So this rain eventually does clear and then, yes, one or two scattered showers for England and Wales.
02:03Frequent showers there across the northwest of England as well as Scotland where we continue to see some quite heavy
02:09downpours
02:09into the afternoon and in evening time.
02:12But notice these temperatures, a good few degrees lower across England and Wales, 21 to 23 degrees Celsius at the
02:19very best.
02:19The high teens for Northern England, 17 or 18 across West Wales and then 17 for Northern Ireland as well
02:26as the central belt of Scotland.
02:27Further north across Scotland, we're seeing 14 or 15 degrees Celsius and still that nagging fresh northwest wind.
02:34So we continue with that showery regime across the north as we head through Tuesday evening again with the risk
02:41of thunder.
02:42Eventually through into Wednesday, still some showers in the mix, but a slight transient ridge coming in
02:47and that will dampen down weather activity as we head through the day.
02:52So let's just pick up on some detail through Wednesday morning.
02:54A stronger wind across the northeast of Scotland, pushing down the North Sea with those showers.
03:00Showers drifting in across Northern Ireland, Wales, the West Country, the Midlands, but some brighter breaks coming through.
03:05Certainly a better day to come across western Scotland before that sunshine turns rather hazy later
03:10as the onset of more rain arrives towards late afternoon.
03:15Elsewhere, these showers will continue to drift in and push towards more central and eastern areas of England.
03:20Light showers at that, but they will just come and go as temperatures struggle up to 18 or 19 degrees
03:25Celsius.
03:26An improving picture for northern Scotland as well.
03:29You could see some brighter breaks here, but temperatures struggling a little bit with that cool breeze.
03:34For the northeast of Scotland, 13 or 14 degrees Celsius.
03:37We'll probably see a 16, 17 for the eastern side of Northern Ireland before that rain pushes in.
03:43And for the bulk of England and Wales, it's the mid to high teens.
03:48So that's the picture on Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening and overnight.
03:52This rain gradually extends across the country.
03:54The winds pick up.
03:55We could see some coastal gales towards the west of Scotland as this wet weather sweeps southwards through into Thursday.
04:03So here's that band of rain on Thursday.
04:05Some wet weather to start the day anywhere from eastern England, southeast Wales down towards the southeast.
04:10Some stronger winds across Channel Coast, as well as the west country Irish seacoast, seeing a brisk breeze.
04:17But again, the strongest winds will be across western Scotland, clipping Northern Ireland and across headlands, coastal districts.
04:23Yes, you could see strong to near gale force, perhaps even some isolated gales.
04:27So through the morning, here's that wet weather, some brighter breaks trying to develop in between the showers towards the
04:35north and that rain,
04:36which will gradually clear as we head through the afternoon towards the southeast, taking with it the strongest winds here.
04:43But those showers will filter in across northern England.
04:46We could see some across the northwest of Wales, the Isle of Man and certainly frequent showers yet again on
04:52Thursday across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
04:55And they could cluster together to form longer spells of rain as we see strong to near gale force winds
05:00continue across the far north.
05:01That's the low pressure towards the north of Scotland.
05:04So some wet weather to come, some higher rainfall totals here, but some fine weather to end the day across
05:10central and eastern areas of England as that rain clears.
05:13And temperatures probably yet again 17 to 19 at the very best.
05:17So through Thursday evening, low pressure still influences the weather across more northern areas.
05:22A rid yet again, that's the weather pattern through this week, drifts in from the west.
05:27And so on Friday, we could wake up to some brighter weather across England and Wales.
05:32Frequent showers through the morning across Scotland, particularly the far north of Scotland with that strong wind.
05:37A scattering of showers across mainland Scotland and some drier weather coming in across Northern Ireland until later on the
05:44day,
05:44where yet again we could see some showery bursts.
05:46For England and Wales, a mix of clouds and brighter breaks yet again, one or two showers towards the west,
05:53drier skies further east.
05:54And it'll be breezy at times as temperatures arrive, possibly 19 or 20 across England and Wales.
06:00And we could in fact see a 16 or 17 for Northern Ireland before this rain pushes in.
06:05And it'll be mostly sporadic though, and we could see some sporadic bursts by evening time across Western Scotland as
06:11those winds pick up.
06:12But a warmer day in shelter across eastern Scotland.
06:15You'll notice that across places such as Aberdeen and Angus elsewhere, yes, those temperatures struggling a little bit where you
06:22catch a shower.
06:24So that's the end of the working week, not the end of the story by any means.
06:29We continue to see these low pressures just moving in towards the north of the UK and high pressure attempting
06:35to cast an influence across the west and southwest of Europe.
06:40But certainly we will remain mobile.
06:42Westerly is coming in and that really does ensure that we will continue to see rain or showers.
