00:00Hello there, welcome to your weekend weather update from the Met Office.
00:04This weekend is looking mixed, slightly warmer than what we've experienced recently
00:08and that's due to a subtle change in wind direction.
00:12A northerly wind we lose and we gain some weather coming in from the Atlantic.
00:16Although the weekend does start on a chilly note, drier for a time
00:19before we see a bank of cloud and rain move in from the west.
00:22It does turn showery for some as we head through Sunday as well.
00:26So a bit of everything going on this weekend.
00:29Friday night into Saturday, this is low pressure which has brought strong winds
00:33to the north and northeast of the country and that's drifting away.
00:37A lighter breeze, quieter conditions as we enter the weekend but it will be chilly.
00:43So temperatures, first thing in rural spots, could dip down to minus two
00:47across more northern areas, minus one in shelter further south and southwest.
00:52So a bit of a cold start to the day but it will be bright, bright with some sunshine.
00:58Showers continue with a brisk breeze across the northeast of Scotland and we could find
01:02that cloud building through the middle part of the day and with that one or two scattered
01:07showers, particularly across England and Wales.
01:10At the same time though, this cloud and rain will arrive across Northern Ireland, making
01:15inroads across western Scotland through the afternoon.
01:18Fresher wind arriving across the Western Isles as well.
01:21So some wet weather here.
01:23Elsewhere though, these showers won't be as intense as we've seen and they won't be as frequent
01:28as well, but still some showery bursts around through the afternoon.
01:33In between, perhaps later on, some brighter weather occurring as the cloud breaks up somewhat.
01:38But by around four o'clock in the afternoon, places such as Glasgow down towards the Isle of
01:44Man, West Wales, the West Country, seeing the first of that rain which will be fairly patchy
01:48across its eastern edge and down towards the southwest.
01:51Showers continue across more southern areas.
01:54There could be a few dotted out, dotted about elsewhere.
01:58Now temperatures through Saturday afternoon after a chilly start, we'll see values coming
02:03in around 13 to 15 Celsius.
02:05We've lost that wind, particularly where you've seen it over the last day or so towards the
02:10east there.
02:11And so it's going to feel pretty pleasant if you catch any brighter skies.
02:15Saturday into Sunday, here's that weak weather front edging eastwards, weakening all the
02:20wild, but notice low pressure still influencing our weather, even though it is sitting over
02:24Greenland.
02:26So we could see a touch of frost first thing on Sunday morning.
02:30Temperatures won't be as low as Saturday morning, and so that'd be the exception rather
02:34than the rule.
02:35But through the morning, this weather front here will bring some showery bursts to England,
02:39particularly central and eastern areas down towards the south.
02:42And we'll see that rain nudging up towards Orkney as well as Shetland.
02:45A few showers breaking out further west as well.
02:49And then this is the next band of showery rain moving in as we head through to lunchtime across
02:55Northern Ireland.
02:55After a dry start here, you'll see some showers gathering western parts of Scotland as well.
03:01Also, through the day, it's worth noting this zone here, that's central, southern, eastern
03:07areas of England.
03:08Those showers could pep up, become increasingly intense in places, slow moving with the risk
03:14of thunder and lightning.
03:16So some lively conditions to end the weekend here.
03:19Some drier weather in between.
03:21Wales, northern England, could see some showers further north across Scotland.
03:26And some heavier showery bursts coming in across Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
03:31So the weather does remain mixed.
03:33Temperatures through the morning, not as low as Saturday morning.
03:36And into the afternoon, we'll see a degree or so higher, 14 or 15 in the north central areas.
03:43We could see a 17 down towards the home counties.
03:46Temperatures falling temporarily near any heavy downpours.
03:50So that's the picture on Sunday.
03:53As we head through into the beginning of next week, things do look still relatively unsettled.
04:00There is a warming trend, which is good news, but we're still under the influence of low pressure.
04:07That means rain or showers, and it could turn windy through Tuesday into Wednesday.
04:10Obviously, we'll keep you posted on all our social media channels.
04:14Have a good weekend, and I'll see you again soon.
