00:00Hello there, welcome to your week ahead weather forecast from the Met Office.
00:04This week we're talking high pressure yet again, but it will be the position of the high which will determine
00:10not only how strong the wind will be, especially across England and Wales, but how it's going to feel.
00:16Now through Tuesday morning, this weather front here, stuck under the high, will produce more cloud
00:20and also some dampness in the air, some patchy drizzle.
00:23A fine morning across Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, a bit chilly in places
00:27could even see a touch of frost as we start the day.
00:30For most though, after a bit of a cloudy morning, any dampness in the air will tend to dry up.
00:37The cloud will overturn and break up as it drifts westwards.
00:41So a fine afternoon to come as the sun comes out.
00:44We remain under cloudy skies across Shetland.
00:48There's a very small chance of a shower just clipping the far south east of England.
00:51These showers are developing across the near continent.
00:55Now let's take a look at those temperatures.
00:56In Shelter, towards the west, we're likely to see temperatures in the mid to high teens
01:01along the east coast, though, struggling 12, 13, 14 Celsius.
01:06And this wind will strengthen even further as we head into Wednesday.
01:10Before that, though, on Tuesday evening, a chilly one.
01:13Temperatures will be lower than Monday night, so we could see a frost particularly across more northern areas
01:19as that wind picks up strength across England and Wales.
01:22And along the south coast through the day, there is a chance you could see those winds touching gale force.
01:27Certainly gusty over the hills and mountains.
01:29A lighter breeze across central and northern areas of Scotland on Wednesday.
01:32And any cloud along this eastern side will tend to break up.
01:35A better day for Shetland with some sunshine.
01:38But through the afternoon, you can see this cloud will thicken.
01:40We could see some showery rain just clipping the Cilly Isles as well as Cornwall.
01:45So here, temperature is probably 20 degrees Celsius.
01:48In Shelter, with temperatures up a degree on Tuesday, so 18, 19, 20 Celsius.
01:54And along this eastern strip, probably around 12 to 14 Celsius.
01:58We don't have to go very far inland to become sheltered from that breeze,
02:01and temperatures will respond very nicely.
02:04So through Wednesday evening and overnight, yet again, some clearer skies.
02:08But notice, as high pressure drifts towards Denmark, we inherit more of a southeasterly wind.
02:14The wind will pick up more so across eastern Scotland through Thursday.
02:18And here we see the beginnings of some showery rain across the southwest, pushing ever northwards.
02:24But still, the wind will be strong across the southwestern quadrant of the country,
02:28where we have a real squeeze on the isobars.
02:30And some rain to start the day, south Devon, as well as Cornwall, clipping Pembrokeshire.
02:35And the cloud will march northwards across the Republic of Ireland, taking some showery bursts with it.
02:40But for most of the country, as we head through the morning into the afternoon, it's fine and dry with
02:45some sunshine.
02:46A stronger wind, as I said, through the day across Scotland, particularly eastern Scotland.
02:51And still a brisk breeze coming in from a southeasterly direction elsewhere.
02:55Even so, temperatures will be slightly higher along this eastern side, 13 to 15, 16 Celsius.
03:01And a degree or so higher in shelter further west across Wales, central southern England, as well as western Scotland.
03:08We could see a 19 for Argyle and Butte.
03:11And for mid-Wales, probably a 21.
03:13At the same time, towards the southwest, yes, you'll see that cloud just spilling ahead of this weather front.
03:20This is showery bursts of rain, which will continue to drift northwards through Thursday evening, overnight and into Friday.
03:28But a pleasant end to the day across many areas with sunny spells.
03:34So, let's just take a look at that high pressure.
03:36Yes, that's just declining towards the east.
03:38And there's sort of a flabby low pressure just sitting across the Republic of Ireland.
03:43This is just bringing more unstable air to the west there and some showery bursts of rain.
03:49Now, through Friday morning, you'll see a brisk breeze along this eastern side of the country.
03:54But it's a fine start across much of England and eastern Scotland.
03:57Now, there is some uncertainty to the distribution of this showery rain as we head through Friday.
04:03It will expand across Scotland, northwest England, perhaps further west.
04:07And there is a risk of some heavier downpours through the day, even with the risk also of thunder.
04:12More cloud for Northern Ireland.
04:14Again, you could be caught under this showery rain and the showery rain could be slightly west, further east as
04:20well.
04:20Notice not a lot across England and Wales, but you'll need to stay tuned to the forecast.
04:25There'll be more detail as we head through the next few days.
04:28And it will feel warm in the sunshine yet again, 21, 22 degrees Celsius for the home counties.
04:34And because of the breeze coming in from a more of a southerly direction, you'll notice the difference along this
04:39eastern side as well, 19 or 20.
04:42So, yes, for the next few days, we're looking at fine weather.
04:46We're looking at dry conditions.
04:47And then some subtle changes through Thursday into Friday.
04:52The air will be slightly more humid and that low pressure will bring unstable conditions.
04:57And that always means the chance of some showery bursts which could turn thundery.
05:01So, here's your summary through the working week.
05:05Dry and sunny for most.
05:06Those fresh winds strong, particularly on Wednesday across the southern coast there, as well as England and Wales.
05:12And there is some uncertainty about that distribution of the showery rain on Friday.
05:17But obviously, we'll keep you posted on all our social media channels.
05:20And I'll see you again soon.
