00:00Hello, welcome to your latest Met Office weather update. Plenty of fine weather around at the moment, but it's not
00:07going to last as we head into the weekend.
00:09That's because, well, there's an area of low pressure. We can see that on the earlier satellite imagery.
00:14There's a swathe of cloud. This is the low pressure system and its associated fronts.
00:19They're going to bring some wet and windy weather initially to the northwest as we head into the weekend.
00:24But for the time being, we're under the influence of this high pressure, this ridge that's pushing in, which is
00:29why it's largely settled through today.
00:31And that's going to help clear away that cold front, which brought some rain earlier on in the day to
00:36the southeast.
00:37Now, through into this afternoon, then, yes, there are a few showers here and there, a couple of parts of
00:43the Midlands, maybe Wales.
00:45And you can't rule out one or two elsewhere as well. But on the whole, it's looking largely dry.
00:50There will also be some bright, sunny weather around, perhaps a bit more sunshine than is suggested in the graphics
00:56behind me here.
00:57I think there will be some decent breaks in the cloud. And the winds are pretty light with that ridge
01:02of high pressure that's building in.
01:03And so, well, with the bright, sunny weather, mostly light winds and temperatures getting to the low, possibly even mid
01:10-20s, it should feel pretty warm.
01:12We're looking at highs around 23, 24 Celsius towards the south, further north, even here, high teens, maybe even low
01:1920s in a few places.
01:20But you will want to make the most of the weather if you can, because that weather system that I
01:25mentioned, that is going to sweep its way through,
01:28initially affecting northern parts through the early hours of tomorrow morning.
01:31And then the front does edge its way southwards.
01:33But it takes quite a while to do so.
01:35So a fine end to the day for many of us, some late sunshine as well.
01:40But then wind and rain spilling its way in across parts of Northern Ireland, much of Scotland and some parts
01:45of northern England, too, by the early hours of Saturday morning.
01:48In terms of gusts, well, we could see gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour in some spots.
01:53And we do need to watch out for the rain. That's going to be quite heavy, quite persistent in those
01:57northern areas, too.
01:58A different story across more central southern areas here, staying dry, clear skies, lighter winds, and so temperatures dropping, maybe
02:06even mid-single figures in some places.
02:08So a fresh start to the day on Saturday.
02:11Here, a different story, though, for those northern areas.
02:14It's going to be wet and it's going to be windy.
02:16As I showed you earlier, that rain is edging its way southwards as that front pushes its way across the
02:21country.
02:22But it takes a bit of time to do so, and the rain is going to break up.
02:26Nonetheless, I think there will be some persistent rain across parts of the Midlands, parts of Wales, perhaps a bit
02:31more than is showing up here.
02:33So it could be quite wet, really, through the afternoon.
02:36Further north, the rain, well, the more persistent rain will be clearing away.
02:40So it is going to stay quite cloudy and there will still be further rain as we go into the
02:45afternoon.
02:46But it won't be as wet or as windy as it will have been to start the day.
02:50There may even be some dry, sunny spells around as well.
02:53All the time towards the far south, well, here it stays mostly fine and temperatures are going to be slightly
03:00higher than today.
03:01Greater chance of getting to highs of around 25 Celsius.
03:04Further north, the cloud, the rain, the blustery winds, well, it is going to feel markedly less pleasant for sure.
03:12As we go into Sunday, that rain eventually does reach those far southern parts.
03:16So it could be a bit wet here, first thing.
03:18But we're going to see a lot of the rain clearing through and breaking up.
03:21And so whilst it may stay a bit damp and a bit grey across some southern counties, it's going to
03:26be earlier on when we see the wettest weather.
03:29Further north, however, it's a different story to Saturday, a much drier picture.
03:34Some bright, sunny weather around.
03:36Yes, there'll be some lingering cloud, but it should be mostly bright.
03:40That's worth bearing in mind that's coming after a bit of a chilly start.
03:43There could be a touch of grass rust first thing on Sunday morning in the north.
03:47Otherwise, then temperatures, well, they're around average for the time of year.
03:51Maybe a touch above perhaps in some places.
03:53High teens towards the north, low 20s towards the south.
03:56But there is fresher weather to come as we go into next week.
03:59And there's also going to be more changeable weather at times as well.
04:02Of course, stick with us and you'll be up to date with the latest forecasts.
04:06Bye-bye.
