09 March - National afternoon forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Hello, for many of us today got off to a bit of a grotty start and in some places the
00:05cloud is going to lift and break up and there will be a bit of sunshine around but in many
00:09places it's going to stay pretty grey and a bit murky.
00:13Looking at the earlier satellite imagery we can see this big band of cloud to the west of us but
00:18there are some fronts across the UK and it's these which are bringing often quite cloudy skies and they're going
00:25to bring outbreaks of rain.
00:26Nothing particularly heavy for most of us we've had some outbreaks of rain pushing their way northwards already and we're
00:32going to see more of these as we go into the afternoon particularly around western also northern parts of the
00:37UK just some mostly light drizzly rain at times perhaps a little bit heavier at times as well.
00:42Now towards the east a greater chance of staying dry and there should be some breaks in the cloud developing
00:48but not a huge amount of these and just worth bearing in mind we could see a couple of showers
00:53developing across east and south eastern parts and if they do well they could.
00:56Turn a little bit heavy you couldn't even rule out a little bit of thunder but actually a pretty low
01:01chance of us seeing those developing most places seeing temperatures well around or a little bit above average for the
01:07time of year widely getting into double figures highs across much of the UK ranging from around 11 to 14
01:13celsius but across parts of the east southeast particularly if we get any breaks in the cloud well we could
01:19be looking at highs of around 16 maybe 17 celsius and those are the kind of temperatures we need for
01:24any of those showers to develop.
01:26Which is why it's a little bit uncertain as to whether or not we're going to see any.
01:30Then through this evening not a huge amount changes most places staying quite cloudy just some greater chance of some
01:36clearer skies towards the southeast and across some parts of Scotland most places yeah sticking with the cloudy theme.
01:42Across northern Ireland western Scotland well there's a front coming in so that's going to bring some more persistent rain
01:48not overly persistent but yeah fairly frequent outbreaks of rain coming in and the winds will be strengthening here.
01:54Elsewhere there will be some clearer skies developing later on in the night the models hinting at some over eastern
02:00parts of Scotland and around eastern parts of the Midlands maybe a little bit towards like the Bristol Wiltshire area
02:06but I wouldn't take the detail too literally at the moment.
02:10Just worth bearing in mind if you do get any breaks in the cloud particularly towards the east away from
02:15the blustery west where we could see temperatures dropping a little bit there may be a touch of frost in
02:20some prone spots but most places holding a fair few degrees up above freezing because of the often cloudy skies
02:26many of us are going to have.
02:28So again a bit of a grey day for many of us through tomorrow yes there will be some sunshine
02:33in places but not a huge amount for most of us the sunshine perhaps shifting a bit further eastwards across
02:39parts of East Anglia as we go through into the morning and then more cloud following in behind.
02:44The rain to start across northern Ireland and western Scotland that will edge into southern Scotland parts of northern England
02:50down western Wales and towards the southwest but it'll just be some outbreaks of rain and again nothing overly heavy
02:56here just those strengthening winds to bear in mind across western areas.
03:00And then another band of rain comes in across northern Ireland as we go through the afternoon this one looks
03:05like it's going to bring some heavier rain more persistent and so we're going to see some higher totals in
03:10association with that as it pushes its way across the UK as we go overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday.
03:15Ahead of that though towards the east actually generally dry still quite cloudy though once any breaks in the cloud
03:22kind of look like they're going to disappear really as we go through into the afternoon.
03:26And with that temperatures again widely into double figures but in the east southeast well they're not looking as quite
03:32as high as through today so you know 13, 14 possibly 15 Celsius really at best.
03:38As we go later on this week there is more changeable weather to come there will be some rain pushing
03:43through Wednesday into Thursdays looking fairly wet and there'll be some strong winds it's often going to be quite windy
03:50particularly towards western northwestern areas.
03:52Towards the southeast a greater chance of some more settled and perhaps rather pleasant weather but worth bearing in mind
03:57temperatures are going to be dropping for all of us through the week and that then brings a reasonably high
04:04chance of seeing some wind something wintry so some sleet some snow particularly towards northwestern UK as we go through
04:10Thursday and into Friday.
04:11But Andy will be bringing the week ahead forecast which will be available on both YouTube, Spotify and many other
04:18places so do check that out if you'd like more details.
04:21I'll see you again soon. Bye bye.
