00:00Hello. Are you ready for some wet and windy weather? Because, well, it's coming. There's
00:05an area of low pressure out in the Atlantic, and the associated frontal system with it,
00:10well, that's heading our way, and it's going to push initially across northern areas, but
00:15through the weekend, we will see that wet weather edging further southward. So whilst
00:19the rain won't be as heavy and the winds won't be as strong as further north, most of us
00:24will see some rain even in the south.
00:26Calmer weather does develop as we go through into Sunday, but there's another area of low
00:31pressure to the northwest of us as we head into early next week. More on that in a second.
00:37Back to this evening, actually a fine end to the day for many. Some late sunshine, lots
00:41of clear skies, especially across England and Wales. For Scotland and Northern Ireland, however,
00:47that first low pressure system I mentioned, that arrives, and so we're going to see cloud
00:51building, rain, which will be quite heavy and persistent, and some strong gusty winds.
00:56Gusts could reach in excess of 50 miles per hour. Rainfall totals, well, quite widely around
01:02parts of Northern Ireland, western, southwestern Scotland, maybe northwest England as well.
01:06It could see 20 to 40 millimetres, and perhaps 50 to 70 millimetres in some places. So a very
01:13wet, windy picture, really, through the early hours of Saturday morning.
01:17With that, then, we do have a bit of a north-south split with our temperatures. It's going to be
01:21unpleasant in the north, and temperatures aren't going to drop a huge amount further south, whilst
01:25towns and cities will hold up in double digits. Some rural spots could get to mid-single figures,
01:31six, seven Celsius, maybe five possible, and so a bit of a fresh start. And with that,
01:36there could be some mist and fog patches first thing as well.
01:40A wet start across northern parts, a windy start as well, but that frontal system is edging southwards,
01:47so we'll, by the time we get to lunchtime early afternoon, we'll see the more persistent rain across
01:51parts of Wales, central Wales, and into the Midlands, also East Anglia. Maybe a bit more rain,
01:57perhaps, than is shown behind me here. It could be quite persistent, and maybe even a bit heavy at
02:02times. More northern areas, well, whilst it is going to be wet and windy to start the day,
02:06the weather's easing and breaking up a little bit as we head into the afternoon. So some outbreaks
02:11of rain, yes, and there will be a fair amount of cloud, but also some drier, brighter weather,
02:16and the blustery winds, they will be easing as well. Far southern areas here staying dry,
02:21and there'll be some sunshine, especially towards parts of, well, Kent, Essex,
02:25seeing perhaps the best of the sunshine, and also the highest temperatures, 23, 24, maybe 25 Celsius,
02:31so a little bit above average for the time of year, even further north, high teens or low 20s,
02:36but the strong winds will take the edge of the temperatures somewhat.
02:40More rain to come across southern counties through Saturday evening and overnight. Pulses of rain
02:46could reinvigorate through across parts of South Wales and more central southern parts of England
02:51as well. Northern parts, however, having a much drier night than this coming one. Clearer skies,
02:57lighter winds, so perfect ingredients for temperatures to take a bit of a drop. Again,
03:01more built-up areas just about holding up in double digits, but rural areas could get to
03:06four or five Celsius, and so a touch of grass for us not out of the question, and some mist
03:12and fog
03:12patches quite possible. Much milder, much milder towards the south, obviously with the cloud,
03:17the rain, the blustery winds as well. If we just draw a comparison between Sunday morning and Saturday
03:23morning, and you can really see the marked difference, and it's all due to the position
03:26of that frontal system, where it's lying across those southern areas. We have some warm air trapped
03:32in within it, and also the cloud and the rain and the wind stopping temperatures dropping too much.
03:38So a much milder start to the day on Sunday compared to Saturday in the southern half of the UK,
03:43but a much chillier one across those northern parts. Through Sunday itself then, yes, cloudy, wet,
03:50blustery across those southern areas first thing, but we are going to see the rain breaking up,
03:55clearing away. So whilst there will still be a bit of rain around into the afternoon,
03:59there'll be much less, and there should be some dry weather. Not a huge amount of sunshine breaking
04:03out here, staying pretty cloudy. Further north, a brighter picture through the morning,
04:08lots of sunshine, maybe some cloud infilling through into the afternoon, but I still think
04:12it'll be largely dry, and there'll be some decent bright sunny spells as well. Temperatures actually,
04:17if anything, will be down a couple of degrees compared to Saturday, closer to average for the time of
04:22year, but still getting above 20 Celsius in a fair few spots. As we head into next week, and I
04:28already
04:28alluded to it, but there is an area of low pressure to the northwest of the UK that's set to
04:32bring more
04:32unsettled weather. Again, the heaviest rain, the strongest winds in association with this feature
04:37will be towards the northwest, and actually further south and east. We start the working week
04:41on a largely dry note, but there will be some rain coming through at times for most of us, and
04:47we are going to see temperatures dropping, so it is going to feel a fair bit fresher, more autumnal
