00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Overnight, a band of showery rain moved in from the Atlantic, bringing wet weather to western parts of the UK.
00:11It's tracking eastwards through today. The winds will also be a feature of the weather,
00:15hanging on to drier skies across eastern counties of England until much later on in the evening.
00:21But first thing, some drier weather to start the day across Shetland, eastern counties of Scotland, northeast England.
00:28But notice the rain just coming and going across western and central parts of Scotland and a strong wind.
00:34Wet and windy weather comes and goes across Northern Ireland, the Isle of Ange seeing some showery bursts
00:38and showery bursts also for western parts of Wales as well as the west country.
00:43Further east, a lot of clouds across England. The clouds will break at times, allowing for some hazy sunshine to
00:49come through
00:49and a lighter breeze across the Midlands eastwards.
00:53So, through the morning, we watch as this weather front moves in and continues to bring wet weather further east.
01:00A few showers breaking out ahead of it.
01:02We could see just about a shower towards the far southeast through the early hours of this morning towards Kent.
01:08Generally speaking, though, it's dry and notice the cloud will break, allowing for some brighter skies.
01:12By around lunchtime, most of Scotland will be under this cloud with some wet weather and again that strong wind.
01:20At this point, we lose a lot of the persistent rain across Northern Ireland, but we do gain a scattering
01:25of showers.
01:27That rain extends to the Isle of Man, the far north of Wales, and to the south of that, yes,
01:31expect some showers across Wales
01:33as well as the west country.
01:35A few showers for the Pennine districts, but further east, you'll get away with some drier weather through lunchtime,
01:41but the cloud rolling in and then through the afternoon, eventually some showery bursts here.
01:46By late afternoon, if you're stepping out or going home from school or work, you may find some showers across
01:53the Midlands.
01:54Again, some wet weather for Wales at strong wind across Irish sea coasts.
01:58Further west, a few showers for Northern Ireland, showery bursts also for Western Scotland.
02:03And by this point, you'll see some wet weather extending towards Shetland.
02:07Now, across the East Midlands, eastwards, some brighter skies through the latter part of this afternoon.
02:14Temperatures here are probably 20, 21 degrees Celsius and an 18 for Northern Ireland in Shelter.
02:19For Scotland, probably 15 towards the north-west of Scotland, exposed to that fresh south-west wind,
02:26generally speaking, around 17 degrees Celsius.
02:29So that's the picture through this afternoon, through this evening.
02:33Notice some wet weather just clipping East Anglia as well as the south-east.
02:38And we'll see some persistent rain just for a time across eastern counties.
02:42Elsewhere, some showers as we head into the early hours of Friday morning as this rain continues to make its
02:47mark
02:47across the far south-east of England, but it will clear.
02:51A legacy of few showers behind it and some clearer skies.
02:54So again, a bit of a chilly one as we enter the day on Friday where you see those starry
02:59skies.
02:59A breeze will deliver some showers across western Scotland as we head through Friday morning
03:05and a few showers clipping the far north of Northern Ireland.
03:08Here are your temperatures in the towns and cities, 12 or 13 degrees Celsius under the canopy of cloud,
03:14probably 14 or 15, but in rural spots we could see temperatures again into single figures.
03:19So some brighter weather as we head through Friday morning as that showery rain clears the shores of East Anglia
03:27as well as Kent.
03:28Through the day, a lighter breeze across many areas, but yet still quite breezy towards the north-west of Scotland
03:34where, again, you'll see a few showers.
03:36And one or two isolated showers elsewhere as the cloud builds through the middle part of the day
03:40and so brighter skies perhaps coming through yet again as we lose the sunshine later on,
03:47the strength of the sun, should I say.
03:49So maybe some sunshine to end the day and generally speaking,
03:52it'll be a quiet end to the working week away from the north-west where we'll see a brisk breeze.
03:58Temperatures will be on the up, so slightly higher than we experienced today.
04:03There are 18 or 19 across Scotland and northern England, northern parts of Wales.
04:09Further south across England and Wales, 21, 22 degrees Celsius, helped with a little sunshine in places.
04:16That's the picture on Friday.
04:18Into the weekend, the weather changes yet again.
04:21The system remains fairly mobile through the weekend, so wet and windy weather,
04:26with even some coastal gales across the far north-west coastal districts in particular.
04:29You'll see that rain gradually sinking its way southwards into Sunday.
04:33A legacy of some showers on Sunday.
04:35And what that means, you'll see some brighter breaks coming through across Scotland and northern Ireland.
04:41And temperatures yet again, the high teens, if not the low 20s.
04:45Wherever you are, take care and I'll see you again soon.
