Rounds of downpours drenched the Southeast to start the final full week of August, and the rain will be back in just a few days.
Transcript
00:00Storms once again soaking the southeast to kick off the week here.
00:04Flooding downpours, wind gusts, and hail.
00:07Sadly, there were two killed, a mother and a little two-year-old, over the weekend in Florida.
00:14Very sad story there in Margate, Florida.
00:17So just be aware, even non-severe thunderstorms that bring lightning can be deadly,
00:21and that lightning is a true danger out there.
00:24We do have some storms that have pushed through the Outer Banks.
00:26This was really active for most of the afternoon and early evening.
00:29Now the worst of this is pushing offshore and out over parts of the Atlantic there,
00:35near Cape Fear, Cape Lookout, and south of Cape Hatteras.
00:37Storms are also on the move into the area around Sea Island there
00:40and other spots around the Golden Isles there of Georgia, parts of South Florida, Central Florida.
00:46Pesky storm right over the James River to an area west of St. Augustine.
00:53That's firing up there.
00:53That'll be a concern for the coast, and these storms continue to push south through parts of New Orleans.
00:59And now southward, really.
01:01So we still have some lingering severe threats, although this graphic probably on its last legs now
01:05as we're trimming the severe threat southward.
01:07Most of the strongest storms are now here after 7 p.m. Eastern, pushing offshore.
01:12Tomorrow we're going to see another episode break out near the Gulf Coast,
01:16near and really any part of Florida will be in play,
01:18and then into areas along I-95 and eastward to the Carolina coast in South Georgia as well.
01:23You'll notice this is the result of the southward push of a front
01:27that has basically wiped most of the high humidity away from the interior southeast.
01:32And this is about as well as we could do this time of the year with the front pinning itself
01:35south of I-20.
01:37And for about a day it may linger, and then the front just washes out.
01:41The humidity kind of eeks northward once again.
01:43And on Wednesday we're back into it with the disturbance crossing Tennessee.
01:46A little faint circulation there.
01:48We'll see more showers and storms drawn north once again through the rest of the Carolinas, Georgia,
01:53and into the Tennessee area, and even in parts of Kentucky again on Wednesday.
01:57And Thursday we're back into it too.
01:59So some of this is drought relief.
02:00It's good news.
02:01It's not all bad news here.
02:02Rounds of downpours pinned a little farther south on Tuesday.
02:06More expansive on Wednesday.
02:07Travel disruptions.
02:08You can see the green on the map all the way north into Kentucky and West Virginia on Wednesday once
02:13again.
02:13And Thursday, numerous showers and storms.
02:16Pretty much anybody in the southeast is in play.
02:18And by the numbers, we're going to be back into the 80s and 90s.
02:21Extra cloud cover may keep you a little less hot in Charlotte.
02:24But with the high humidity, I don't think 83 is going to feel fall like there quite yet.
02:2990 plus in Florida, Montgomery.
02:3188 in Jackson.
02:32But scattered storms will be still adding to the humidity out there.
02:3690 plus in Florida, Montgomery.
