Thursday thunderstorms led to flash flooding and isolated wind damage from the mid-Atlantic into the Northeast on Sept. 25.
Transcript
00:00Now, we're going to start off a little further south, far northern Virginia.
00:04That's where we have a tornado warning.
00:06It's our first of the evening into New York State.
00:08We had several tornado warnings earlier this afternoon,
00:10but not since we've been on the air starting at 4 p.m.
00:14So let's zoom in a little bit more here.
00:17I wanted to kind of orient exactly where we are before we really zoomed into this one isolated cell
00:22that is leading to this tornado warning.
00:24You can see it's kind of out ahead of exactly where the cell is at this point.
00:28I'll turn on the loop just so you can see how it's really strengthened over the last hour here,
00:33over several radar scans.
00:35So specifically, this is for Loudoun County, Virginia, there, right along the line with Maryland.
00:41You have the state border right there.
00:43That's really our only severe threat right now, and it's a relatively small area there.
00:49But certainly, if you're in that area, you know anyone in that area,
00:52you want to make sure you are taking your immediate tornado precautions and getting to a safe location.
00:56As we look farther to the north, there's not even that much lightning.
01:00We have some lightning into Delaware with one cell there,
01:03but this line of thunderstorms, really only a few strikes of lightning,
01:07enough to cause some issues at some airports, even recent thunderstorms.
01:11But overall, it's beneficial rainfall, especially farther to the north into somewhere like Maine.
01:16I do want to zoom out a little bit, and I want to turn on our storm reports
01:19because we have had some severe thunderstorm warnings that have led to some damaging wind reports.
01:23We've also had some flash flooding that has popped up.
01:26I want to start with this report actually coming in from eastern Virginia.
01:30A tree fell on a UPS truck near an intersection of two roads.
01:35This was right around 420.
01:37Certainly a dangerous situation there.
01:38Hopefully, everyone is okay.
01:40And then we have the flash flooding reports.
01:42Even a road flooded out in Rhode Island there.
01:45Expect to see maybe some more flash flooding reports as we go throughout the rest of the evening
01:48as we pick up several inches of rainfall.
