Days of downpours drench the South

Every day for the next few days, thunderstorms will fire up throughout the Southeast, bringing welcome rain to a lot of drought-stricken areas.

00:00we've had a lot of lightning. Look at the lightning map. A quick glance at

00:02this here into florida, especially the lightning capital of the nation, at

00:06least historically the place with that reputation living up to its reputation

00:10there with many lightning strikes and overall as we move ahead to tomorrow,

00:13we're gonna have more showers and thunderstorms in many areas across the

00:17south. You can see temps deep into the eighties for most of us, 88 into

00:22Montgomery, 88 degrees into Atlanta, 94 high into Raleigh and we're up around

00:2693 tomorrow into Jacksonville off to the west, not quite as steamy, 82 in

00:31Jackson, Nashville and Little Rock, a little cooler than the norm there. But

00:35along with the rain, we have the risk for some flooding and you can see

00:38there are some flood watches in effect here for eastern parts of North

00:42Carolina and Southeast Virginia. Also, we're dealing with heat advisories for

00:47others on the map here into portions of florida and southeastern Georgia that

00:51runs until around six p.m. Or so tonight in most places. So overall,

00:56the heat is on. The thunderstorms are gonna be breaking, breaking out into

01:00most of these areas here over the next couple of afternoons and you can see

01:04the forecast. We're gonna press pause at five p.m. Tomorrow. Many

01:07thunderstorms will be on the map. So look out there in Charlotte up 77 up

01:12into parts of western Virginia into I 81 stretch there through the Blue Ridge

01:16and then also near Atlanta. Scattered storms, many storms. This is a

01:20pressing pause kind of at the maximum inactivity around 45 p.m. As the heat

01:25of the day will help to have sparked many of these thunderstorms. Then

01:29they'll come down to a minimum and then a new episode will break out into

01:32Wednesday. You can see that surge of moisture coming out of the Gulf of

01:35Mexico, helping to fuel some of this into parts of texas as well and then

01:40also flow generally from the south, fueling some of these storms into

01:43Atlanta and other areas around the Carolinas on Wednesday as well. We'll

01:47get a little bit less active by then into florida, but there will still be

01:51some storms around. So the Wednesday map most widespread from the central

01:54gulf coast up into the mid atlantic states where we really do need some of

01:57that rain thursday gets squashed just a little farther south with some

02:01improvements and drying to the north near Little Rock.
