00:09Hi friends! Welcome to my video tutorial for the Pocket Pony. This Amigurumi pattern is super fun
00:16to make. It's quick, easy, low-sew, and colorful. You can follow along with the free written pattern
00:24on my blog or crochet with me in this video tutorial. If you'd like to support me as a pattern
00:32designer, I do have a PDF pattern available. It's a 2-in-1 PDF pattern that includes an additional
00:38version for the pony. The free version that we're crocheting here today is called the strands
00:44version, so the mane and tail are made in strands. And the second version, exclusive in the PDF
00:50pattern features bumps for the mane and tail. As a side note, the horse with bumps for the mane and
00:57tail
00:58is faster to crochet. Both versions are adorable though, and perfect for celebrating the zodiac
01:04year of the horse. Now let's go over the materials. For this project, I am using super bulky weight 6
01:13push yarn, a 5mm crochet hook, 16mm eyes, stuffing, yarn needle, and scissors. You are welcome to use any
01:23weight yarn and any size hook to go along with that yarn. To begin with the head, we're going to
01:36start
01:36with two chains. Here's my slip knot to begin my chain. And here's one chain, two chains. Then insert
01:47eight single crochets into the second chain from the hook. If you'd like to do the magic ring method,
01:54which is to insert eight single crochets into the magic ring, you are welcome to do that.
02:13After you do eight single crochets in the same, in the round, you're going to start on round two. For
02:20round two,
02:21you're going to single crochet and then increase four times around. So in that first stitch, you're going
02:26to single crochet. In the next stitch, you're going to increase. So I'm putting two single crochets in the same
02:35stitch. Then we're going to repeat the sequence around. So single crochet and then increase in the next stitch.
02:49Repeat again, single crochet, increase.
02:57And then the very last two stitches, single crochet and increase.
03:08And now you are ready to move on to round number three. For round three, you're going to single crochet
03:14two and then increase, repeating that four times around.
03:19If you'd like to use a stitch marker, you're welcome to do that as well.
03:24I'm using a yarn scrap as my stitch marker. It is the cheapest and easiest stitch marker in my opinion.
03:34All right. So placing it at the very head of my, or start of my round. I'm now going to
03:40start on round three.
03:42Single crochet two times.
03:46And then increase in the next stitch.
03:48Let's repeat that. Single crochet two, increase.
03:58Single crochet two, increase.
04:04And our very last sequence here, single crochet two,
04:11and increase.
04:15Now you should have your piece kind of folding into a more 3D shape.
04:23Remember to push your piece inside out so that the right side faces out.
04:30For round number four, we're going to increase just slightly here. We're going to single crochet seven,
04:35and then increase, repeating that two times around. So that's one, two, three, four, five, six,
04:48and seven stitches.
04:51And in that next stitch, we're going to increase.
05:00Single crochet seven, one, two, three, four, five, six, and seven.
05:13And in that very last stitch, and increase.
05:18Now, um, we're going to do rounds five to rounds eight, um, as single crochet around.
05:25And we're not going to increase or decrease at all.
05:29So I'm going to move my stitch marker up here to keep track of where round five starts.
05:36And basically just single crochet all the way around.
05:41We're doing straight rounds here with the same stitch count.
05:50We're going to meet back at the end of round eight.
05:53Here's a look at round eight complete. As you can see, we went up from rounds five,
05:59six, seven, to eight. Now for round number nine, we're going to single crochet and decrease
06:06six times around. Here's what it'll look like. Single crochet and then decrease.
06:13I'm using the invisible decrease method. You can use the regular decrease if you want,
06:18but if you'd like to do the invisible decrease, just insert your hook into the first front loop
06:23of the next stitch, then the next front loop of the following stitch.
06:29Yarn over, pull through those two front loops,
06:33yarn over and pull through the two loops. That's an invisible decrease. I like it because it's a lot
06:41less visible than a regular decrease. Now single crochet and then we're going to decrease again,
06:48going into those two front loops.
06:52pull through and finish your decrease. Single crochet, decrease.
07:02Single crochet, decrease.
07:08Single crochet, decrease.
07:16Single crochet, decrease. And now that you finish, we're going to attach the plastic safety eyes.
07:27I am using some 16 millimeter plastic safety eyes. These are colored eyes. If you're using solid black
07:35eyes, I recommend going down some sizes, 16 millimeters is probably going to look really big.
07:43And as these colored eyes work, they just have some glittery backings. Oops, here's the glittery side
07:54that I put, um, into over the peg here. There we go. You know, have a nice glittery effect.
08:05I like to place the eyes between rounds five and six, counting up from, um, the first round. That's one,
08:13two, three, four, five. And here's six. So right between five and six are these stitches here. And, um,
08:23you can go ahead and just insert the eye and, um, place them on both sides of the head. You
08:30want to
08:31make them on opposite sides here.
08:36So if I place this here. One, two, three, four, five, and six. So let's see. Somewhere over here.
08:50When you're satisfied with the placement, go ahead and attach the backings to the end here.
09:01If you struggle with attaching the eyes on such a small amigurumi, you can use a safety eye tool.
09:13And these are like pliers to just get the eyes attached easily, like so.
09:32After you finish attaching the eyes, you can go ahead and stuff the head.
09:40Once your doll's head is stuffed, it's time to finish up the round. Um, we're now moving on to round
09:4710,
09:48where we're simply decreasing all the way around. So go ahead and single crochet each, um, pair of stitches
09:57together. You'll end up with six stitches in this round. And we're going to fasten off with a long tail
10:18Now let's fasten off with a long tail. And we are going to use this tail for sewing the opening
10:26closed later.
10:27I recommend sewing the opening closed after you finish the two ears. That way you, um, can still easily stuff
10:37the ends in.
10:48We'll see you next time.
10:51We'll see you next time.
10:51Bye.
