00:08Hi friends! Today we're going to crochet this adorable little mushroom bookmark. It is a very
00:15quick and easy project, and it only requires sewing from the long bookmark string here to

00:31for more information. And now let's go ahead and talk about the materials we need. For this pattern,
00:40we are using some medium weight 4 yarn here. Acrylic or cotton work really well for this.
00:46You'll also need a 2.7mm crochet hook, a yarn needle, scissors, 6mm plastic safety eyes,
00:55and a small amount of stuffing. You can also get some black thread for embroidering the
01:01mouth of the mushroom if you'd like to. We're gonna start with red yarn for the mushroom top.
01:13For round 1, begin with a magic ring, and in the magic ring, insert 6 single crochets. Here's my
01:21slipknot to begin, and I'm going to insert 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 single crochets. Now pull the
01:39ring tight,
01:41and that concludes round 1. For round 2, we're going to increase all the way around. So that's inserting
01:502 single crochets in each stitch. In this very first stitch, I'm going to insert 2 single crochets,
01:57like so. 1 and 2. And that makes my first increase. Repeating that around. Here's my 2nd increase. Now for
02:14my 3rd increase. 1 and 2 single crochets. 4th increase. 5th increase.
02:31And 6th. And that's that for round number 2. For round 3, we're going to single crochet and increase all

03:52four we're going to single crochet two and increase all the way around six times and if
03:59you'd like to you can add a little yarn scrap or a stitch marker to keep track of where the

04:03of your round is like so so when I crochet I'm just going to kind of lock it in there
04:13so here's
04:14my first single crochet my second single crochet and an increase in this next stitch repeat that
04:26single crochet single crochet and increase make sure you work this repetition six times around
04:37making a total of 24 stitches
04:59now for rounds five to round seven we're simply going to single crochet around insert one single
05:06crochet in each stitch no increasing no decreasing we're going to work these straight rounds for three
05:14rounds and meet back at the end of round seven here's a look at round seven complete I had inserted
05:25the stitch marker where my little yarn scrap before around four so here's around five six you know
05:32seven now after round seven is done we're going to switch to using beige yarn for the stem of the
05:40mushroom
05:41first we're going we're going to switch yarn colors by pulling out the um working loop here and I'm just
05:49going to finish off the last stitch of red by pulling beige yarn through like so and what you can
05:59do is
06:01hold those two yarn tails together while you crochet so you can kind of work it in now we're going
06:07to single
06:08crochet around in back loops only that means instead of going through two loops like you normally would you're
06:15going to only insert your hook through the back loop which is farther away from you here's the front loop
06:25up
06:26here and that's the back loop back there all right so let's single crochet around in the back loops and
06:36again
06:36I'm kind of holding those yarn tails while I crochet so I'm working it into the stitches here this is
06:44optional but just an easy way to kind of weave in the ends
07:17here's a look at round number eight complete for round nine all we're going to do is single crochet
07:23around normally and so instead of working in the back loops you're going right back to working through
07:28both loops like normal and crochet around without increasing or decreasing you're going to end up
07:41with 24 stitches after you finish round number nine it's time to do around ten which is single crochet twice
07:53and decrease repeating that six times around so I'll show you what that looks like for the first repetition we're
08:00going to
08:01single crochet twice that's the first time and the second time and now we're going to make a decrease by
08:09single
08:09crocheting two stitches together so insert your hook into the first stitch yarn over pull up a loop insert your
08:17hook into the next
08:18stitch yarn over pull up a loop you have three loops on your hook yarn over pull through all three
08:25loops and that'll
08:27give you a decrease let's repeat that around so single crochet twice one and two and now for the decrease
08:40insert your hook pull up that loop once you've got those three loops yarn over pull through all three
08:47and again repeating that sequence single crochet twice and decrease
08:57single crochet twice
09:01and decrease
09:05and you should end up with 18 stitches in this round
09:29so for round number 11 we're going to single crochet four and then decrease repeating that three times
09:35around so for that first sequence let's go ahead and single crochet four one two three and four
09:47and then we're going to put a decrease over the next two stitches
09:57there's my decrease and repeat that sequence so single crochet four
10:05three and four and then a decrease
10:12and last time around single crochet four one two three four and a decrease
10:25you will have 15 stitches at the end of this round
10:34and now we're just going to single crochet for a while so that means inserting one single crochet in
10:40each stitch around and if you'd like to add a yarn marker here you may do that
10:46it makes it a little bit easier
10:57so let's single crochet around
11:01here's a look at round 15 complete
11:05i went from rounds 12 here to 13 14 and 15
11:09and now your mushroom probably looks kind of funny the way it is but don't worry we're going to actually
11:16push
11:17the um inner part of the mushroom into the cap
11:21so just push that off white section
11:26like so and you'll notice that your mushroom went from looking like blown up like this to
11:34caved in like this
11:37and let's continue working on the next round for round 13 we're going to single crochet four and then
11:44increase repeating that three times around so here we're going to single crochet four one

12:03and now i'm going to make an increase
12:11and let's continue around for three uh for a total of three repetitions

15:01after round 19 is a good time to insert those plastic safety eyes i put six millimeter eyes between
15:08rounds 17 and 18 so counting up from 19 our last finish row it's round 19 18 and 17 right

15:20those two rounds and i like to put them about four stitches apart
15:26all you have to do is count from um one side to the other so i inserted
15:32um one eye here and then i'm gonna count over four stitches so in here and then one
15:39two three and four and then insert the second eye into that fourth stitch
15:49then go ahead and secure those eyes with some backings before we make further decreases
15:57after round 19 let's go ahead and stuff the mushroom
16:02you're going to insert a little bit of stuffing up through the stem and um into the
16:07center of the crown there or the cap
16:11do not over stuff the mushroom cap because it will not be able to kind of cave in like this
16:22and when you're ready for round 20 we're going to do
16:26a single crochet and then a decrease repeating around six times so here we're going to single crochet
16:34and then decrease
16:39that's my first repetition

16:46well that didn't turn out okay decrease now second repetition single crochet and decrease
17:00third repetition single crochet and decrease
17:11then third rep fourth repetition single crochet and decrease

17:39and we are done with round number 20
17:50in the very last round for round number um
17:5521 here you're simply going to decrease all the way around so that's six decreases
18:21and if you find that your stem is a little bit um under stuffed you can go ahead and add
18:27a bit
18:27more before you close up the hole now with round number 21 finished we're going to fast mouth with a
18:33very long tail um i recommend about 12 inches or so and that's going to be the length of your
18:41bookmark
18:41plus an additional several inches for sewing and fastening off
18:46so here i'm going to measure to about 12 inches and snip that off
18:56and you're going to use this long yarn tail to simply um sew the opening closed
19:03so i like to do that by going through the front loops only going in and out from the uh
19:11first front
19:12loop here in and then out the next front loop in and out the next front loop
19:22and last one in and out that last front loop when you do that um and pull the yarn tail
19:31tight
19:31you're cinching up the bottom quite neatly
19:37and that also um is going to be the long tail for your bookmark so i would add in just
19:44a couple more
19:46stitches around to strengthen it
19:56and when you are all done you'll want to make sure you are able to insert your um yarn tail
20:05through the
20:05very center of the bottom
20:19and we're going to leave this yarn tail um attached to the yarn needle for now
20:24we're going to use it to sew onto the leaf later let's go ahead and crochet the leaf
20:32for the leaf we're going to use some green yarn and start with a um bit of a tail
20:39then you're going to make a chain of eight so we're going to do a slip knot to prepare for
20:45our chain
20:46and now let's chain eight one two three four five six seven and eight
20:55and we're going to work starting from the second chain from the hook
21:00in that second chain you're going to insert a slip stitch
21:09in the next chain you're going to insert a single crochet
21:15in the next chain a half double crochet
21:20then in the next chain a double crochet
21:34and we're going to insert two triple crochets in the next chain and here's what a triple crochet looks
21:41like similar to a double crochet except you're going to loop around three uh two times excuse me
21:47so a double crochet you um loop over once we're going to do it two times for a triple
21:56like this insert your hook into the next chain pull yarn over pull up a loop
22:02you have four loops on your hook yarn over pull through the first two yarn over pull through the next
22:09two let's repeat that triple crochet on the same chain so yarn over twice insert your hook into
22:21that same stitch yarn over pull up a loop yarn over go through the first two loops yarn over go

22:27the next two loops and yarn over go through the last two loops now in the very last chain in
22:35your
22:37line of chains here we're going to insert a double crochet half double and a single crochet all in the
22:43same stitch
22:44so here a double crochet then a half double crochet

22:56all together now we're going to work in the opposite side of the chain now
23:02and we're going to kind of reverse the instructions so going into that same chain
23:11let's do a single crochet a half double crochet and a double crochet
23:22again we're working on the other side of the chain in the next stitch we're going to yarn over twice
23:29to insert two triple crochets here's my first triple my second triple
23:42now i'm going to do a double crochet in my next stitch
23:48a half double crochet in the next stitch
23:54a single crochet in the next
23:58and a slip stitch in the very last stitch
24:06and after you finish um you can go ahead and now slip stitch back towards the bottom of the leaf
24:16so i'm just going through the center of the leaf here
24:26going to insert a slip stitch into each of these chains
24:39basically kind of backpedaling here so that my yarn tails are both on the same side
24:56so when you are done go ahead and fasten off with a bit of a tail so that you can
25:01tie the two ends together
25:20and there you have it that's my little leaf
25:25now i'm going to go ahead and attach the mushroom to the leaf
25:31by inserting my yarn needle through the bottom of the center
25:41and here's where you want to see how long you want the bookmark to be
25:45if you want a longer bookmark you will um kind of stretch out your um yarn strand here some more
25:53if you want a shorter one just pull your leaf up to make it a shorter string
26:01i'm going to make mine about eight inches long
26:05so just kind of measuring down that seems about right
26:11and i think eight inches is a good length for me um also because the little teabag bookmark i made
26:19is eight inches long
26:25okay and now we're gonna go ahead and secure this with a few stitches
26:43when you're all done you can go ahead and fasten off one method of fastening off is um i like
26:50to split
26:50that ending yarn tail and then i can pull one end through one of these stitches on the back here
27:04that's very close by and then i'll tie the two ends together
27:16and of course um double knot it and fasten off
27:25and there you have it your little mushroom bookmark is all done
