00:08hey friends today we're going to crochet the viral steamer basket and this little
00:16dumpling here is actually my existing pattern the perfect bow which I'll link
00:21in the description below it's a really quick easy and no sew bow and as you can
00:26see it has a nice little chubby raindrop shape with a little tuft on top so it fits perfectly
00:33into the steamer basket the steamer basket like the bow or the dumpling here is completely no
00:40so you just need to weave in the ends and as you can see the top fits over the bottom
00:47like so and
00:49you can add the dumpling inside before closing it up

01:13you'd like to support me as a pattern designer let's go ahead and go over the materials on how
01:19to make this for this project you are going to need some super bulky or bulky weight chanel velvet yarn
01:29this is posh twist linked in the description box below it's a weight 5 chanel velvet that i really
01:35like to use um i use the same type of yarn for both the dumpling and for the basket the
01:42dumpling
01:43is going to take up a 5 millimeter hook and for the basket we're going to size up a little
01:49bit and
01:50use a 6 millimeter hook now you are going to also need a yarn
01:59for the steamer basket you're also going to need a pair of scissors and if you're crocheting the bow
02:05on my um other video you will need some stuffing 12 millimeter eyes and some extra yarn for embroidering
02:13details if you want
02:31let's crochet the bottom of the basket for this part we're going to use a 6 millimeter hook
02:37just for reference i did um the dumpling portion using a 5 millimeter hook so you're going to go up
02:45just a hook size for the basket and to begin we're going to start with round one for round one
02:53you're
02:54going to begin with a magic ring inside the magic ring make a chain that's my slip knot by the
03:00way so
03:01make a chain and then insert 10 half double crochets in the ring here's one
03:12two three four oops
03:23six five six seven eight nine and ten
03:37when you finish you're going to pull the ring tight
03:41and then use your hook to insert into that first half double crochet that you made and pull through
03:50with a slip stitch that's the join at the end now we're going to start on round two for round
03:58two we're
03:59going to make a chain and you're going to insert increases all the way around we're using half double
04:05crochet increases here so that means insert two half double crochets in each stitch around and i'm also
04:11going to pull up that starting yarn tail to weave in while i work round two so now i'm going
04:18to insert
04:18my hook into that first half double crochet here's my starting yarn tail in between
04:28and again i'm going to put two half double crochets in that very first stitch
04:36then insert um an increase into that next stitch
04:49work around increase in the next stitch
04:56increase in the next
05:03and repeat it around
05:09as you can see i'm holding that yarn tail um close to my stitches here so i'm naturally weaving it
05:15in
05:16here this is optional you don't have to do it this way of course you can weave it in um
05:21yourself later
05:22with a yarn needle or with a smaller hook but i will prefer doing it this way so that um
05:28it's
05:30one less step to do at the very end
05:40once you've finished uh once you have finished increasing all the way around you're going to join
05:45with a slip stitch to the very first stitch like so now let's begin round number three for round three
05:53we're going to make a chain and then half double crochet in that first stitch
05:59in the next stitch we're going to make an increase so here's my half double crochet increase
06:06and we're going to repeat this whole sequence around half double crochet and then increase
06:16half double crochet and then increase
06:39half double crochet at the very end join with a slip stitch to that first half double crochet
06:44and you are done after you finish round three your dumpling should fit within that space pretty
06:52snugly as you can see it is um just about the right size here and if you find that your
07:00piece is a little bit
07:01too small i would recommend either going up a hook size because it's possible that your stitches are
07:08just too tight or you can loosen them up by stretching out your piece a bit now for this next
07:15step you're
07:16going to make one chain and then you're going to half double crochet in each of the back loops so
07:23working
07:23into that first back loop i'm going to make a half double crochet in the next one a half double
07:31crochet
07:33and all the way around
08:01now at the end i'm joining with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet
08:06you can push your piece inside out make sure the right side of your stitches are facing outwards
08:13and you can check it for size your dumpling should fit um cozily inside the basket like so
08:23and let's continue on for the next round round number five we're going to make a chain
08:30and half double crochet all the way around
09:00and of course at the end we're going to join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet
09:08your basket should now be forming into this nice 3d shape
09:13and again you can stretch out your stitches slightly if you find that they're curving curling
09:17in or getting too tight for round six we're going to repeat around half double crochet in each stitch
09:37and let's beat back at the end of the round
10:08for round seven of the basket you're simply going to repeat
10:11um the previous round which is make a chain and half double crochet around
10:17join with a slip stitch at the very end
10:40after round seven is complete you can fasten off with a tail for weaving in
10:47if you are um not a fan of using yarn needles you can just use a smaller hook
10:52to weave in the ends like so
10:57pulling it through the stitches
11:17you can also see how your dumpling fits for size so here is my chubby little dumpling and i'm gonna
11:23put it right inside and here's what it looks like with its tiny little head peeking out
11:31okay i guess it looks like a tuft of hair up there anyways let's move on to the top of
11:37the basket
11:42for the top of the basket we're going to use the same hook size that we did for the bottom
11:47which is a
11:47six millimeter hook start off with the magic ring for round one and inside the magic ring you're going
11:53to make the slip knot then do your chain and then insert 11 half double crochets in the magic ring
12:01here's one
12:04two three four five six seven eight nine ten and eleven
12:23then you're going to tighten the ring
12:29and you're going to join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet
12:38for the next round round two make a chain and increase in each of the stitches around
12:45so again like the bottom of the basket you're inserting half double crochet increases which means
12:52two half double crochets in the same stitch
13:08at the end join with a slip stitch to the first half double crochet
13:13and for this next section we're going to have double crochet and increase all the way around
13:19so for round three we're going to start off with that half double crochet and then increase in the next
13:24stitch
13:26again half double crochet and then increase in the next stitch
13:34let's repeat that
13:54at the end join with a slip stitch to the first stitch
13:58and for this next round we're simply going to make a chain and half double crochet around in back loops
14:05once only again the back loop is the one um facing away from you or the one farther from you
14:40and here's my join to the first half double crochet at this point you can turn your piece um right
14:47side out
14:48and um let me tighten my ring here it's really open all right
14:57for round number five we're going to make a chain to start
15:02and half double crochet in each stitch around
15:33now we can go ahead and fasten off for the top of the basket
15:38and i like to leave just a little bit of a tail for weaving in over here
15:43and again i'm going to use a crochet hook instead of a yarn needle
15:50you're welcome to use a yarn needle though
15:59all right and i'll leave it in more later um let's pull that top starting yarn tail in
16:07all right and for now you can go ahead and fit the top over the bottom piece to see how
16:14well it fits
16:16if you're finding that it doesn't go fully over or overlap the bottom of the basket what you could do
16:23is stretch out your stitches just slightly by using your hands to gently pull on these stitches
16:31and you'll want to pull on both the flat circle piece and the um height of the basket here
16:46after some pulling it should be able to fit much better over the bottom
17:04now if you'd like to make a handle for your basket all you have to do is insert your hook
17:09under um a
17:10stitch between rounds two and three of the top so here i am inserting between two and three and you
17:18can do any stitch around because you just need to make sure the other side um is uh across so
17:26after
17:27you insert your hook we're going to pull yarn through pull in the same color used for the basket top
17:34and then you're going to make eight chains
17:44and then go to the other side of the basket you're going to want to double check here to see
17:51um where that would be
17:57and when you found the spot insert your hook under that stitch between rounds two and three
18:02and you're going to yarn over and pull through
18:07like so
18:11and if you'd like a slightly longer uh handle you can add more chains to that as well
18:18and when you are done pulling yarn through you're just going to fasten off and weave in those ends
18:26so here i'm going to use my um yarn or hook here and pull that in
18:39and we're going to make sure we weave in those ends
18:48and i like to secure the yarn ends inside by tying them tightly
19:19so here's the top of my basket
19:27and let's put the whole thing together
19:30so dumpling with its little tuft of um hair poking out
19:36and there's the top of my basket that goes over
19:40like so
19:43if you'd like you can even put your dumpling the other way so that you can see its cute face
19:52right when you open up
19:57all right so let's open up that steamer basket
