00:08hi everyone today we're going to crochet this adorable little pocket capybara as you can see
00:16it's a really tiny little guy he works up so fast takes me only about 35 to 40 minutes to

00:23start to finish and it is a quick and easy no sew project meaning you will not have to do

00:32of sewing to finish him up because of that he's great for market prep and making as a last minute
00:38gift and to complete the gift you can also add a really cute capybara themed adoption certificate

01:11he would turn out really cute as well all right let's go ahead and go over the materials and we
01:19will start crocheting him for this project i'm using some bulky weight yarn here this is a plush chanel
01:31velvet yarn it's called posh twist and i have it linked in the description box with this yarn i'm using
01:38a five millimeter crochet hook and also a yarn needle just for sewing up the opening in the end i
01:50am using
01:51some 10 millimeter plastic safety eyes
01:56and you'll use a bit of stuffing as well as scissors
02:11we're going to begin with the front of the head going back towards the body
02:16so using some dark brown yarn we're going to first um start with two chains for round one
02:24here's my slip knot to begin the chain
02:28and now chain one and chain two and then in the second chain from your hook you're going to insert

02:37single crochets so here that's one two three four five six seven and eight
02:59so here is round one complete
03:02next for round two we're going to go ahead and increase all the way around so going into that first
03:09stitch the first single crochet in the previous round you're going to insert two single crochets

05:33And then at the very end, you will see that you have this new round going on in a different
05:41color. You can actually push your piece inside out so that the right side faces out and the wrong
05:48side is now in. And we're going to continue working with single crochets around for rounds four and
05:56five. Let's meet back at the end of round five. Here's what the piece looks like with round five
06:04complete. We've got this 3D effect going on now. And for round six, we're going to single crochet 14.
06:14And then the last two stitches, we're going to increase in the front loops only. So let's go
06:20ahead and add a little stitch marker. You can use a yarn scrap if you are cheap and lazy like
06:26me.
06:26Works great. And now let's go ahead and crochet round six. So in the first stitch, just single
06:35crochet. Same for the next 13. So that was 1, 2, and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
06:5311, 12,
06:5713, and 14 stitches. So now you've come to the last two stitches of the round in the front loop
07:07only. So in that loop closer to you, normally we crochet through both loops, but front loop is
07:14this one here. So in the front loop only, you're going to make an increase.
07:27So that was two stitches in the same stitch. And in that next front loop, we're also going to make
07:34an
07:34increase. Two single crochets in the same stitch. And that's that for round number six.
07:42For round seven, we're going to increase twice in the next two front loops as well. So now going into
07:51that first front loop, increase. Going into the next front loop, increase. And now we're going to
08:02single crochet 14 and then increase two in the last two stitches. So here's what it'll look like.
08:10Single crochet 14. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. And now
08:33in the next,
08:35or the remaining two stitches, we're just going to increase. So in this one, we're going to increase.
08:42And in that last stitch, we're going to increase. That brings you to the end of the round.
08:50And now for round number eight, we're going to increase twice. And then single crochet 20,
08:57which is the remaining stitches of the round. Let's increase twice. One increase. Two increases.
09:09And now single crochet 20. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,

10:02All right. And now for rounds nine to round 12, all you're going to do is simply single crochet around.
10:11I recommend pulling your stitch marker up now so you can mark where the beginning of round number nine is.
10:20And again, we're just going to single crochet around, putting one stitch in each, or one single crochet in each
10:30stitch.
10:31And what we're going to do is work on rounds nine to 12, and we'll meet back at the end
10:37of round 12.
10:39Here's a look at round 12 complete.
10:42As you can see, going from where I marked the round for round nine, that's nine, 10, 11, and 12.
10:50And now is a good time to attach plastic safety eyes before you start closing up the body.
10:56So I'm attaching 10 millimeter eyes between rounds four and five.
11:03Counting from the front, that's one, two, three, four, and five.
11:09So right between four and five.
11:11And I like to place the eyes just to the sides by folding your piece flat.
11:18You can find out where the center of the face would be.
11:28All right.
11:29And after you are satisfied with the placement for the eyes, you can go ahead and secure the backings.
11:37The eyes are secure, so let's go ahead and move on to round 13.
11:42For round 13, I'm going to move that yarn scrap up again so we can see the beginning of the
11:49round very clearly.
11:51What we're going to do is single crochet 16 and then decrease four.
11:56Let's go ahead and start.
11:59Single crochet 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15,
12:2815, 15, 15, 16, and now we're going to decrease four.
12:32So this is crocheting two stitches together.
12:35I just pull yarn from the next stitch.
12:40So yarn over, pull yarn through, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through.
12:46With the three loops on your hook, you're going to yarn over and pull through all three.
12:51That's a decrease.
12:53Going into the next stitch, insert your hook, yarn over, pull up a loop.
12:58Go into the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop.
13:02Turn over, pull through all three loops.
13:06Let's do that again.

13:11And then you're going to decrease all the way around for round 14.
13:22So let's go ahead and decrease 10 all the way around.

14:10After you've decreased all the way around, for the last round, round 15, we're just going
14:17to decrease two more times, and that's going to leave, we're going to leave the remaining
14:23stitches unworked.
14:25So for round 15 here, that would be decrease once, and decrease twice, and we're going to
14:41fasten off with a long tail that we're going to use for sewing the opening tails.
14:48Now is a good time to pause, and we're going to crochet the arms and the legs, as well
14:57as the ears.
14:59After that, we can sew the opening closed.
15:07For the ears, we're going to work into a stitch in round 7 of the head.
15:13Counting from the beginning, that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and here's 7.
15:21So I've got my hook under one of those stitches in round 7, and you'll want to insert it where
15:28you want the ear to go.
15:30It's only going to take up one stitch.
15:32So I like the ear to be just slightly higher than the eyes, as you can see here.
15:39When you're happy with the spot, you're going to pull some dark brown yarn through, leaving
15:46a bit of a tail in the beginning, which you'll use for pulling into the body and weaving in
15:50later.
15:51So don't make it too short.
15:54Now, after you've pulled through some brown yarn, you're going to yarn over, insert your
16:02hook into the same stitch, going into that same stitch in round 7, yarn over, and pull
16:10up a loop.
16:11And now, let's yarn over and pull through all the loops that you're going to do in the
16:12And we're going to repeat that a total of 3 times.
16:15So that was the first repetition.
16:18Let's do it again.
16:20Yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop.
16:37And now, let's yarn over and pull through all the loops on the hook.
16:42Wiggle a little bit to get through.
16:45Then, you're going to make a chain to kind of close up that puff.
16:48Then, we're going to simply slip stitch into the same stitch.
16:57After that, you can snip off the yarn tail, um, fasten off with a bit of a length because
17:04if you make it too short, it's going to unravel, and you're going to pull both the starting and
17:11end-ending yarn tails into the body.
17:28And if you want to make it, like, extra secure, you can go ahead and take those two ends and
17:35knot them tightly inside.
17:42Alright.
17:44Now that we've got that first ear done, we're going to do the second ear.
17:48Again, it's going to go under a stitch in round 7.
17:511, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
17:55And I'd like my ears to sit slightly above the eyes.
18:02And just making sure it's going to be, uh, level with my other one.
18:09Alright.
18:10And we're going to repeat those instructions.
18:12So, I'm going to go through a little faster for the second, um, set, for this second ear.
18:19Pull yarn through.
18:21Yarn over.
18:22Insert your hook into the same stitch.
18:24Yarn over.
18:25Pull up a loop.
18:26Repeat that again.
18:29And repeat that a third time.
18:33Yarn over.
18:34Go through all of those loops.
18:36Chain.
18:37And slip stitch.
18:40And then fasten off with a bit of a tail.
18:43This is just going to go into the, um, body again.
18:48So, I'm going to pull those yarn tails in.
19:04And we can go ahead and tie those yarn tails tightly inside of the body.
19:12This is why it helps to have the opening of the body, uh, close at the very end.
19:18After you've tied all those yarn tails for the arms and the legs and the ears.
19:25Alright.
19:26So, that's that for the ears.
19:36Alright.
19:37Let's go ahead and crochet the legs.
19:39For the legs, we're going to insert your hook into, or underneath, two stitches in the body.
19:45It's going to go over two whole stitches.
19:48That's going to make the leg wider and more, um, plump.
19:52So, we're going under round seven and round eight.
19:57Counting from the, um, top.
19:58It's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight.
20:05So, for instance, you go under round eight and come out in front of round seven.
20:12So, that would go over the two stitches.
20:15Now, each leg is going to take up just, um, that space.
20:19We're not going to cross over onto any other stitches.
20:21So, you're going to want to check placement to see, um, where you want it to pop out of.
20:29If you want it closer to the, um, center of the body, you can do that.
20:34If you want your capybara to be able to stand a little better, I'd say putting it out to the
20:40side would make it, um, more balanced.
20:42So, I'm going to, um, insert the leg here.
20:47And what we're going to do is pull, um, brown yarn, dark brown yarn through.
20:52Again, start with a bit of a tail so that your, um, yarn end can be tied inside later.
21:01All right.
21:02So, now we've pulled yarn through.
21:05We're going to yarn over, insert our hook under the same two stitches, like so.
21:12Yarn over and pull up a loop.
21:15We're going to repeat that a total of four times.
21:18That was one time.
21:19So, yarn over, insert your hook under the same stitch, stitches.
21:25Yarn over and pull through a loop.
21:27That was number two.
21:30Yarn over, insert hook under stitch.
21:33Yarn over, pull up a loop.
21:36That's number three.
21:38Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch.

21:45And that's number four.
21:48Now, you've got a bunch of loops on your hook.
21:52If you want to go ahead and count them, it's, uh, nine loops.
21:56And then you're going to yarn over and pull through all nine of those loops.
22:02Then, make a chain to close off that loop.
22:06And you're going to slip stitch into the same stitch.
22:13Like so.
22:16And we're going to fasten off with, uh, sort of a long tail.
22:20It's going to go into the body.
22:23So, let's pull the starting and ending yarn tails in.
22:38Then we're going to tie the yarn tails tightly inside of the body.
22:56And that's that for the capybara's little leg.
23:01You're going to repeat that around for, um, the next leg.
23:07Remember that it's going to be over round seven and round eight.
23:11And for the back legs, it's going to be over round 11 and 12.
23:18We're going to just, uh, repeat those same instructions.
23:23I'm going to move through them a little faster here.
23:28Okay.
23:28So now I'm going to, um, demo the next leg.
23:33Let's pull dark yarn through.
23:37We're going to yarn over, go back in, yarn over, pull up a loop.
23:43That's one.
23:47Here's the second repetition.
23:52Here's the third repetition.
23:55And the fourth.
23:59Now I'm going to yarn over, go through all of those loops, chain, and slip stitch into that same stitch.
24:24I'm going to yarn over, go through all of those loops, chain, and slip stitch into that same stitch.
24:45Before doing the hind legs, I'm going to stuff the amigurumi.
24:50So that I can see clearly where the hind legs should go.
24:59Once you stuff the doll, it takes on, um, the shape a lot better.
25:26All right, so here is my amigurumi stuffed.
25:30And after I stuff it, I can see more clearly where the hind legs should go.
25:35I want to make sure it's lined up with the front legs.
25:38Um, so let's see.
25:41Standing like this, I would say we want to go back around here.
25:49And when you're ready, just make sure it's over rounds 11 and 12.
25:54So here was, um, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12.
26:02Yep.
26:03All right.
26:04So here, I'm going to pull in that dark brown yarn.
26:09And again, we're going to make that large puff.
26:16Yarn over, insert, yarn over, pull through.
26:21Four times total.
26:23So that was 1, here is 2, here is 3, and here is 4.
26:43Now yarn over, go through all loops, chain, and slip stitch.
26:52Let's fasten off.
26:58And we're going to pull our yarn tails through.
27:11Remember to knot them.
27:29And finally, finish up with that last leg.
27:36Here's my little capybara with the 4 legs complete.
27:40Now, when you are ready to finish up, what you have to do is get your yarn needle out.
27:49And we're going to get that yarn tail from the body to close up the body.
27:56I like to do a nice clean close by putting a running stitch through the outer or the front loops
28:03of the last round.
28:05So go into the first front loop, go out the next front loop, in the front loop, out the next,
28:17in and out.
28:29Then we're going to cinch it closed, pulling tight, like so.
28:43And we're going to weave in that yarn tail now.
28:52I like to just weave in by putting a few stitches throughout the doll.
29:02Remember not to pull in your stitches so tightly that it'll misshapen your doll.
29:07I'm using the needle to poke in and kind of readjust the stuffing inside the body to make sure it's
29:16filled in the right areas.
29:31And when you are done, go ahead and snip off the end, hide it inside the body, and your doll
29:40will be complete.
