00:04Don't be fooled by the slightly fresher feel today and the largely cloudy skies.
00:09The heat is going to build again from tomorrow, intensifying through Monday and Tuesday.
00:14Here's the heat at the moment.
00:16It's really intensifying across France where temperatures will reach the high 30s and by
00:21early in the week, the low 40s.
00:24The UK actually was seeing a cold front move through.
00:26So that's what's providing the cloudy skies as we begin things on Saturday and a few
00:32spots of rain.
00:34But it's also giving us a fresher feel.
00:36So it's not quite as warm as the last couple of days.
00:39Some of the clouds sticks around into the afternoon.
00:41Some light rain in places.
00:44More a case of scattered showers for the north of Scotland.
00:47Parts of Northern Ireland interspersed by sunny spells.
00:50Actually the driest and brightest weather.
00:52Southern Scotland, Northern England and some breaks in the cloud developing through Wales.
00:55But it is a mostly cloudy picture for many places and temperatures as a result.
01:02Reaching 25 to 27 Celsius in the southeast.
01:06Low 20s, high teens further north and west.
01:10So we're not talking about extreme heat for today.
01:13But it will still feel humid.
01:15And that will still lead us into a muggy night.
01:19Now overnight we'll see that cold front fizzle away.
01:22Still one or two spots of rain.
01:23But the cloud mostly thinning and dispersing a clear night to come.
01:28But another warm night.
01:30Temperatures staying at around 15 to 17 Celsius in the south.
01:34A much fresher feel overnight actually for Northern Ireland.
01:37Much as Scotland, the north of England.
01:39In some places the single figures.
01:42More comfortable for sleeping in the north compared with the south.
01:44But we start off Sunday with extensive sunshine.
01:47A lot more blue skies compared with the start of Saturday.
01:51Still some patchy cloud here and there.
01:53Turning the sunshine hazy from time to time.
01:56One or two showers.
01:57But otherwise for the vast majority it's simply a fine day.
02:01High pressure building from the continent will lead to a lot of settled weather.
02:07Even for Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England where we've seen a lot of rain through the week.
02:11It's a decent day on Sunday.
02:14And reasonable temperatures in the north.
02:16Reasonably comfortable that is.
02:18High teens, low 20s.
02:20But towards the south and southeast the heat is intensifying.
02:24And we're likely in places to see the high 20s, perhaps low 30s.
02:2830, 31 Celsius.
02:30The most likely afternoon high towards the southeast.
02:34But even hotter weather is on the way.
02:37As this high pressure builds further.
02:39And this area of exceptionally high temperatures.
02:43We're talking about 10 to 15 degrees or more above average for northern France.
02:48Temperatures climbing into the low 40s by Monday and Tuesday.
02:52We're talking about that air expanding to affect southern parts of the UK.
02:57Now it's going to be warmer across the whole of the UK.
03:00With temperatures for Scotland, for Northern Ireland into the 20s.
03:04Maybe mid to high 20s in some of the warmest spots.
03:07But the very highest temperatures will be towards the south and southwest on Monday.
03:13Southeast focused on Tuesday.
03:16How high are we talking?
03:17Monday and Tuesday.
03:18The chance of temperatures in the hotter spots heading towards the mid 30s.
03:24With a 30% chance on Monday.
03:26A 40% chance on Tuesday.
03:28Of the June all-time record being broken either in England or in Wales.
03:33That's why the Met Office have issued an amber warning.
03:35Not just for the temperatures of course.
03:37But for the fact that it won't be much cooler by night.
03:40Temperatures staying above 20 Celsius in many places.
03:42And what makes this hot spell different compared with the May hot spell.
03:47Really quite high humidities.
03:50And that's going to be the key difference in terms of how it affects us.
03:53Of course the infrastructure and our cells.
03:56We're not built for this kind of heat in this country.
04:00And so an amber warning in force.
04:01Risk of impacts from the very high humidities early in the week.
04:06The high daytime temperatures.
04:08The overnight warmth as well.
04:11And the fact that this is going to continue through the week.
04:14Even if it does turn in places a little bit fresher from the middle of the week.
04:18We're going to keep high pressure near the UK.
04:21And it will often be very warm.
04:23If not hot at times.
04:24Right up until the following weekend.
