05:52and I remember thinking,
05:53man, this guy is so charismatic.

05:56there were some questions about
05:57is he trying too hard to say
05:59what people want him to say

06:01And then you go back and watch him.
06:02I mean, you don't have to be an expert.

06:06He was not asked to do a lot.
06:07So to take him that high,
06:09you're putting a lot of pressure

06:17can you develop him?
06:18If you can't develop him,
06:19then what do you do?

06:20enough time with him in the NFL.

06:33and then getting rebuilt,

06:36we're shocked.
06:37We're not used to seeing
06:39those stories at all.

06:41McVay's been given credit
06:42for some of that.
06:43Shanahan's been given credit
06:44for some of that.
06:45But it really doesn't happen
06:46that often in the NFL.

06:49by the time you get to the NFL,
06:50most of the work is on you.
06:52Like, it used to be very,
06:54hey, you bring him in for camp,
06:55you spend two months in camp,
06:57you play six preseason games,
06:58you had to get guys into shape.

07:04well, you go away from him,
07:05there's actually a dead period

08:18The quarterbacks
08:18are all getting overdrafted
08:20across the board
08:22because you have to
08:23take a shot at them
08:23or they're gone.
08:25So I don't even blame
08:26the teams for overdrafting
08:27these quarterbacks
08:28because if you don't draft them,
08:30then you don't have a chance
08:30to begin with.
08:32Then you're just waiting
08:32and waiting and waiting
08:33and then you punt to next year
08:34and you don't know
08:35where you're going to be
08:35in the draft the following year.

10:31and they have their own time

10:34and you got veterans there

10:36I can't make it.
10:37We're going to Disney
10:37with the family
10:38and it ain't gonna happen.
10:39How do you simulate
10:40an NFL game?
10:41Basketball's easy.
10:41It's easy.
10:42Just roll the balls out
10:43and get guys in some runs
10:45and, you know,
10:46they'll meet together
10:47on their own time
10:48and then there's really
10:49not that big of a departure
10:50between that
10:51and regular season basketball.
10:52NFL's a different story

10:55they're not developing
10:56these guys.

10:58the quarterbacks
10:58and they're gonna do that forever

11:09We go away.

11:12You get three days
11:13with him
11:13or four days with him
11:14a week during that
11:15and then you get ready
11:16for training camp.
11:17You gotta hit the ground running.
11:18So a guy
11:19who was just in college
11:20it's August
11:21four months ago
11:22this guy was coming
11:22out of college
11:23now he's gotta lead
11:23a franchise
11:24Fernando Mendoza.
11:25And when Louis Riddick
11:25says there's no time
11:27for traditional competition
11:28at the NFL level
11:29teams have to get people
11:30ready to play
11:31and reps are scarce.
11:32Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
11:34But I think
11:35if you go back
11:35also the game has changed
11:36it's become more and more
11:38a quarterback game.
11:39Now you have years
11:40where guys run it more
11:41out of necessity
11:42because you're tasked
11:43with winning football games
11:44not just developing guys.
11:46So you have to go out
11:46and win football games.
11:47So there's years
11:47where you run the ball more.
11:49We saw the rebirth
11:49of the running back
11:50a couple of years ago.
11:51Yet when we have quarterbacks
11:53the game has become
11:54more tailored to quarterbacks
11:56more of a passing league.
11:57The rules go towards quarterbacks
11:59so you would want to be able
12:00to throw the ball
12:00a little bit more.
12:01Well yeah,
12:02we had more guys
12:03that we think
12:03were really, really,
12:04really great quarterbacks
12:05in the 80s and 90s
12:06that might not fare so great
12:08in 2026
12:09because the league is different.
12:10Now some of these guys
12:13Marino, Kelly,
12:13you know the ones
12:15they would probably flourish
12:16like crazy
12:17in this era of football.
12:18But in that era of football
12:20there's probably some guys
12:21that we maybe even overrate
12:23in that 90s era quarterbacks
12:26that my generation
12:27remembers so well.
