00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 65
05:00Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion.
05:03Vows made to you are fulfilled.
05:07You hear prayers.
05:08All people approach you.
05:11Our record of sins overwhelms me,
05:14but you forgive our acts of rebellion.
05:17How blessed is the one whom you choose and allow to live in your palace courts.
05:24May we be satisfied with the good things of your house,
05:27your holy palace.
05:30You answer our prayers by performing awesome acts of deliverance,
05:35O God, our Saviour.
05:37All the ends of the earth trust in you,
05:40as well as those living across the wide seas.
05:45You created the mountains by your power,
05:48and demonstrated your great strength.
05:51You calm the raging seas and the roaring waves,
05:55as well as the commotion made by the nations.
06:00Even those living in the most remote areas are awestruck by your acts.
06:05You cause those living in the east and west to praise you.
06:11You visit the earth and give it rain.
06:14You make it rich and fertile.
06:17God's streams are full of water.
06:19You provide grain for them,
06:22for you have prepared the earth in this way.
06:26You saturate its furrows and soak its ploughed ground.
06:29With rain showers you soften its soil and make its crops grow.
06:37You crown the year with your good blessings,
06:39and you leave abundance in your wake.
06:43The pastures in the wilderness glisten with moisture,
06:47and the hills are clothed with joy.
06:51The meadows are clothed with sheep,
06:53and the valleys are covered with grain.
06:56They shout joyfully, yes, they sing.
07:00Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
07:05as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
07:09world without end.
07:11Amen.
07:15Psalm 66
07:17Shout out praise to God all the earth.
07:20Sing praises about the majesty of his reputation.
07:24Give him the honour he deserves.
07:28Say to God, how awesome are your deeds.
07:32Because of your great power,
07:33your enemies cower in fear before you.
07:37All the earth worships you and sings praises to you.
07:41They sing praises to your name.
07:45Come and witness God's exploits.
07:47His acts on behalf of people are awesome.
07:52He turned the sea into dry land,
07:54and they passed through the river on foot.
07:57Let us rejoice in him there.
08:01He rules by his power forever.
08:04He watches the nations.
08:07Stubborn rebels should not exalt themselves.
08:12Praise our God, you nations.
08:15Loudly proclaim his praise.
08:19He preserves our lives,
08:20and does not allow our feet to slip.
08:24For you, O God, tested us.
08:27You purified us like refined silver.
08:30You led us into a trap.
08:33You caused us to suffer.
08:36You allowed men to ride over our heads,
08:39and we passed through fire and water.
08:42But you brought us out into a wide open place.
08:47I will enter your temple with burnt sacrifices.
08:50I will fulfill the vows I made to you,
08:53which my lips uttered,
08:55and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.
08:59I will offer up to you fattened animals as burnt sacrifices,
09:04along with the smell of sacrificial rams.
09:07I will offer cattle and goats.
09:11Come, listen, all you who are loyal to God.
09:14I will declare what he has done for me.
09:18I cried out to him for help and praised him with my tongue.
09:23If I had harbored sin in my heart,
09:26the Lord would not have listened.
09:30However God heard, he listened to my prayer.
09:35God deserves praise,
09:37for he did not reject my prayer
09:39or abandon his love for me.
09:42Glory be to the Father
09:44and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
09:47as it was in the beginning,
09:49is now and ever shall be,
09:51world without end.
09:53Amen.
09:58Psalm 67
10:02May God show us his favour and bless us.
10:06May he smile upon us.
10:08Then those living on earth will know
10:11what you are like.
10:12All nations will know
10:13how you deliver your people.
10:17Let the nations thank you, O God.
10:19Let all the nations thank you.
10:22Let foreigners rejoice and celebrate,
10:24for you execute justice among the nations
10:27and govern the people living on earth.
10:31Let the nations thank you, O God.
10:34Let all the nations thank you.
10:36The earth yields its crops.
10:39May God, our God, bless us.
10:42May God bless us.
10:43Then all the ends of the earth
10:45will give him the honour he deserves.
10:49Glory be to the Father
10:51and to the Son
10:51and to the Holy Spirit,
10:53as it was in the beginning,
10:55is now and ever shall be,
10:58world without end.
11:00Amen.
11:07The prophet Jeremiah, chapter 13.
11:12This is what the Lord said to me.
11:15Go, get yourself a linen band
11:17and put it around you.
11:18Do not put it in water.
11:22So as the Lord said,
11:23I went and got a band for a price
11:26and put it around my body.
11:29The word of the Lord came to me
11:30a second time, saying,
11:33Take the band which you got for a price,
11:35which is around your body,
11:36and go to Parra
11:37and put it in a secret place there
11:40in a hole of the rock.
11:42So I went
11:43and I put it in a secret place
11:45in Parra,
11:46as the Lord had said to me.
11:49Then after a long time,
11:50the Lord said to me,
11:51Get up, go to Parra
11:53and get the band
11:54which I gave you orders
11:56to put there.
11:58So I went to Parra
11:59and uncovering the hole,
12:01took the band from the place
12:03where I had put it away.
12:04And the band was damaged
12:06and of no use for anything.
12:09Then the word of the Lord
12:11came to me, saying,
12:12The Lord has said,
12:13In this way I will do damage
12:15to the pride of Judah
12:16and to the great pride of Jerusalem.
12:19These evil people
12:21who say they will not give ear
12:23to my words
12:24will go on in the pride
12:26of their hearts
12:26and have become servants
12:28and worshippers of other gods
12:30will become like this band
12:32which is now of no use for anything.
12:35For as a band goes tightly
12:37around a man's body,
12:38so I made all the people of Israel
12:40and all the people of Judah
12:42tightly united to me,
12:44that they might be a people for me
12:46and a name and a praise
12:48and a glory,
12:49but they would not listen.
12:52So you are to say this word to them,
12:55This is the word of the Lord,
12:56the God of Israel.
12:58Every skin bottle will be full of wine
13:00and they will say to you,
13:03Is it not quite clear to us
13:04that every skin bottle
13:06will be full of wine?
13:08Then you are to say to them,
13:10The Lord has said,
13:12I will make all the people
13:13of this land,
13:14even the kings seated
13:15on David's seat
13:16and the priests
13:17and the prophets
13:18and all the people of Jerusalem
13:20overcome with strong drink.
13:24I have them smashed
13:25against one another,
13:27fathers and sons together,
13:29says the Lord.
13:30I will have no pity or mercy.
13:32I will have no feelings for them
13:34to keep me from giving them
13:36to destruction.
13:37Give ear and let your ears be open,
13:39be not lifted up,
13:41for these are the words of the Lord.
13:44Give glory to the Lord your God
13:46before he makes it dark
13:47and before your feet are slipping
13:49on the dark mountains.
13:51While you are looking for light,
13:53he will make it into a deep,
13:55dark, black night.
13:58But if you do not give ear to it,
14:01my soul will be weeping
14:02in secret for your pride.
14:03My eye will be weeping bitterly,
14:06streaming with water,
14:07because the Lord's flock
14:08has been taken away
14:09as prisoners.
14:12Say to the king
14:13and to the queen mother,
14:14make yourselves low.
14:16Be seated on the earth,
14:18for the crown of your glory
14:19has come off your head.
14:22The towns of the south
14:23are shut up.
14:24There is no one
14:25to make them open.
14:27Judah is removed as prisoners.
14:30All of Judah
14:31is taken away as prisoners.
14:34Let your eyes be lifted up,
14:36O Jerusalem,
14:38and see those who are coming
14:39from the north.
14:40Where is the flock
14:42that was given to you,
14:44your beautiful flock?
14:46What will you say
14:47when he puts over you
14:49those whom you yourself
14:50have made your friends?
14:52Will not pains take you
14:54like a woman in childbirth?
14:57If you say in your heart,
14:59why have these things
15:00come upon me?
15:01Because of the number
15:02of your sins,
15:03your skirts have been uncovered
15:05and violent punishment
15:07is overtaking you.
15:10Is it possible for the skin
15:11of the Ethiopian
15:12to be changed
15:13or the markings of the leopard?
15:16Then it might be possible
15:17for you to do good
15:19who have been trained
15:20to do evil.
15:22So I will send them
15:24in all directions
15:25as dry grass
15:26is taken away
15:27by the wind
15:28of the wasteland.
15:29This is your fate,
15:31the part measured out to you
15:33by me, says the Lord,
15:35because you have put me
15:36out of your memory
15:37and put your faith
15:39in what is false.
15:41So I will have your skirts
15:43uncovered before your face
15:44in order that your shame
15:46may be seen.
15:49I have seen your disgusting acts,
15:52even your false behavior
15:53and your cries of desire
15:55and your loose ways
15:56on the hills in the field.
15:59Unhappy are you,
16:00O Jerusalem,
16:01you have no desire
16:03to be made clean.
16:05How long will you be
16:06in turning back to me?
16:10This is the word of the Lord.
16:13Thanks be to God.
16:28Mary said,
16:29My soul exalts the Lord,
16:32and my spirit has begun
16:34to rejoice in God my Saviour,
16:36because he has looked
16:38upon the humble state
16:39of his servant.
16:42For from now on
16:44all generations
16:44will call me blessed,
16:47because he who is mighty
16:48has done great things for me,
16:50and holy is his name.
16:53From generation to generation
16:55he is merciful
16:57to those who fear him.
16:59He has demonstrated power
17:01with his arm.
17:03He has scattered those
17:04whose pride wells up
17:06from the sheer arrogance
17:07of their hearts.
17:09He has brought down
17:10the mighty from their thrones,
17:12and has lifted up
17:13those of lowly position.
17:16He has filled the hungry
17:17with good things,
17:18and has sent the rich
17:20away empty.
17:22He has helped
17:23his servant Israel,
17:25remembering his mercy,
17:27as he promised
17:28to our ancestors,
17:29to Abraham,
17:31and to his descendants
17:33for ever.
17:35Glory be to the Father,
17:37and to the Son,
17:37and to the Holy Spirit,
17:39as it was in the beginning,
17:41is now,
17:42and ever shall be,
17:44world without end.
17:46Amen.
17:55The Gospel according
17:57to St. Matthew,
17:58chapters 22 and 23.
18:02Now while the Pharisees
18:04were together,
18:04Jesus put a question
18:06to them,
18:06saying,
18:07What is your opinion
18:09of the Christ?
18:10Whose son is he?
18:13They said to him,
18:15The son of David.
18:18Jesus replied,
18:19How then does David
18:20in the Spirit
18:21give him the name
18:22of the Lord,
18:23saying,
18:24The Lord said to you,
18:25My Lord,
18:26Be seated at my right hand,
18:28till I put under your feet
18:30all those who are against you.
18:33If David then gives him
18:34the name of the Lord,
18:36how is he his son?
18:40No one was able
18:41to give him an answer,
18:42and so great was their fear
18:44of him,
18:45that from that day
18:46no one put any more
18:47questions to him.
18:52Then Jesus said to the people
18:53and to his disciples,
18:55The scribes and the Pharisees
18:57have the authority of Moses.
19:01All things then
19:02which they give you
19:03orders to do.
19:05These do and keep,
19:06but do not take their works
19:08as your example,
19:09for they say,
19:10but do not.
19:11They make hard laws
19:13and put great weights
19:14on men's backs,
19:16but they themselves
19:17will not put a finger
19:18to them.
19:20But all their works
19:22they do so
19:23as to be seen by men,
19:24for they make wide
19:26their phylacteries
19:27and the edges
19:27of their robes.
19:28The things desired by them
19:30are the first places
19:32at feasts
19:32and the chief seats
19:34in the synagogues,
19:35words of respect
19:36in marketplaces
19:38and to be named
19:39by men
19:40teacher.
19:42But you may not
19:43be named teacher,
19:45for one is your teacher
19:46and you are all brothers.
19:49Give no man
19:50the name of Father
19:51on earth
19:52because one is your Father
19:54who is in heaven.
19:56You may not be named guides
19:58because one is your guide,
20:00even Christ.
20:02But let the greatest
20:03among you
20:04be your servant.
20:05Whoever makes himself
20:06high
20:07will be made low
20:09and whoever makes himself
20:10low
20:11will be made high.
20:13This is the word
20:14of the Lord.
20:16Thanks be to God.
20:29Now according to your word,
20:31Sovereign Lord,
20:32permit your servant
20:33to depart in peace.
20:36For my eyes
20:37have seen your salvation
20:38that you have prepared
20:40in the presence
20:41of all peoples.
20:43A light for revelation
20:45to the Gentiles
20:46and for glory
20:48to your people Israel.
20:51Glory be to the Father
20:53and to the Son
20:54and to the Holy Spirit
20:55as it was in the beginning,
20:57is now and ever shall be,
21:00world without end.
21:02Amen.
21:07I believe in God
21:09the Father Almighty,
21:10maker of heaven and earth,
21:12and in Jesus Christ
21:14his only Son,
21:15our Lord.
21:16who was conceived
21:18by the Holy Spirit,
21:19born of the Virgin Mary,
21:21suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
21:25was crucified,
21:27dead,
21:27and buried.
21:28He descended into hell.
21:30On the third day
21:31he rose again
21:32from the dead.
21:34He ascended
21:35into heaven
21:36and is sitting
21:37at the right hand
21:38of God
21:39the Father Almighty.
21:41from there
21:42he shall come
21:42to judge
21:43the living
21:43and the dead.
21:45I believe
21:47in the Holy Spirit,
21:48the holy
21:48Catholic Church,
21:50the communion
21:50of saints,
21:51the forgiveness
21:52of sins,
21:54the resurrection
21:55of the body,
21:56and the life
21:57everlasting.
21:59Amen.
22:04The Lord be with you
22:07and with your spirit.
22:11Let us pray.
22:15Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:18Christ, have mercy upon us.
22:22Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:29Our Father,
22:30who is in heaven,
22:32holy is your name.
22:35May your kingdom come.
22:37May your will be done
22:39on earth
22:40as it is in heaven.
22:42Give us this day
22:43our daily bread.
22:45Forgive us
22:45our trespasses
22:47as we forgive those
22:48who trespass against us.
22:51Lead us not
22:52into temptation,
22:53but deliver us
22:55from evil.
22:57For yours
22:58is the kingdom,
22:59the power
23:00and the glory,
23:01for ever
23:02and ever.
23:04Amen.
23:09O Lord,
23:10show your mercy upon us
23:12and grant us
23:14your salvation.
23:18Protect and guide
23:19those in authority
23:20over us
23:22and mercifully hear us
23:25when we call upon you.
23:28Endue your ministers
23:30with righteousness
23:32and make your chosen people
23:34joyful.
23:37O Lord,
23:38save your people
23:39and bless your inheritance.
23:45give peace in our time,
23:47O Lord,
23:49because there is none other
23:50who fights for us
23:52but only you,
23:53O God.
23:55O God,
