00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:55Psalm 41
04:58How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly.
05:01When trouble comes, may the Lord deliver him.
05:05May the Lord protect him, and save his life.
05:09May he be blessed in the land.
05:11Do not turn him over to his enemies.
05:16The Lord supports him on his sickbed.
05:19You have healed him from his illness.
05:23As for me, I said,
05:25O Lord, have mercy on me.
05:27Heal me, for I have sinned against you.
05:31My enemies ask this cruel question about me.
05:35When will he finally die and be forgotten?
05:40When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly.
05:45He thinks of ways to defame me, and then he leaves and slanders me.
05:50All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another.
05:55They plan ways to harm me.
05:58They say,
05:59An awful disease overwhelms me, and now that he is bedridden, he will never recover.
06:07Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shares meals with me, has turned against me.
06:14As for you, O Lord, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back.
06:21By this, I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
06:28As for me, you uphold me, because of my integrity.
06:32You allow me permanent access to your presence.
06:37The Lord God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore.
06:43We agree.
06:44We agree.
06:47Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
06:53as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
06:57world without end.
06:59Amen.
07:02Psalm 42
07:05As a deer longs for streams of water,
07:09so I long for you, O God.
07:13I thirst for God, for the living God, I say.
07:16When will I be able to go and appear in God's presence?
07:20I cannot eat.
07:22I weep day and night.
07:24All day long, they say to me,
07:27Where is your God?
07:29I will remember and weep,
07:31for I was once walking along with a great throng to the temple of God,
07:36shouting and giving thanks along with the crowd as we celebrated the holy festival.
07:43Why are you depressed, O my soul?
07:46Why are you upset?
07:47Wait for God.
07:49I will again give my thanks to God for his saving intervention.
07:55I am depressed, so I will pray to you while in the region of the Upper Jordan,
08:00from Hermon to Mount Mizar.
08:03One deep stream calls out to another at the sound of your waterfalls.
08:09All your billows and waves overwhelm me.
08:41By day the Lord decrees his loyal love,
08:43Why are you depressed, O my soul?
08:46Why are you upset?
08:49Wait for God.
08:50For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
08:57Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
09:01as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
09:05world without end.
09:07Amen.
09:11Psalm 43
09:14Vindicate me, O God, fight for me against an ungodly nation.
09:20Deliver me from deceitful and evil men.
09:24For you are the God who shelters me.
09:27Why do you reject me?
09:29Why must I walk around mourning because my enemies oppress me?
09:34Reveal your light and your faithfulness.
09:37They will lead me.
09:39They will escort me back to your holy hill and to the place where you live.
09:45Then I will go to the altar of God,
09:48to the God who gives me ecstatic joy,
09:51so that I express my thanks to you, O God,
09:55my God, with a harp.
09:59Why are you depressed, O my soul?
10:02Why are you upset?
10:04Wait for God.
10:06For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.
10:13Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
10:17as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
10:22world without end.
10:24Amen.
10:30The Book of Job, Chapter 22
10:34Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
10:39Is it to God that a strong man is of benefit?
10:43Is it to him that even a wise man is profitable?
10:47Is it of any special benefit to the Almighty
10:50that you should be righteous,
10:52or is it any gain to him
10:53that you make your ways blameless?
10:58Is it because of your piety
11:00that he rebukes you
11:01and goes to judgment with you?
11:04Is not your wickedness great,
11:06and is there no end to your iniquity?
11:10For you took pledges from your brothers for no reason,
11:13and you stripped the clothing from the naked.
11:16You gave the weary no water to drink,
11:19and from the hungry you withheld food.
11:23Although you were a powerful man owning land,
11:26an honoured man living on it,
11:28you sent widows away empty-handed,
11:31and the arms of orphans you crushed.
11:34That is why snares surround you,
11:37and why sudden fear terrifies you,
11:39why it is so dark you cannot see,
11:42and why a flood of water covers you.
11:46Is not God on high in heaven?
11:48See the lofty stars, how high they are.
11:52But you have said,
11:54What does God know?
11:55Does he judge through such deep darkness?
11:59Thick clouds are a veil for him,
12:01so he does not see us,
12:03and he goes back and forth in the vault of heaven.
12:07Will you keep to the old path
12:08that evil men have walked,
12:10men who were carried away before their time,
12:13when the flood was poured out on their foundations?
12:17They were saying to God,
12:19Turn away from us,
12:20and what can the Almighty do to us?
12:24But it was he who filled their houses with good things,
12:27and yet the counsel of the wicked was far from me.
12:32The righteous see their destruction and rejoice,
12:35the innocent mock them scornfully,
12:38saying,
12:38Surely our enemies are destroyed,
12:41and fire consumes their wealth.
12:43Reconcile yourself with God,
12:45and be at peace with him.
12:48In this way your prosperity will be good.
12:51Accept instruction from his mouth,
12:54and store up his words in your heart.
12:58If you return to the Almighty,
12:59you will be built up.
13:01If you remove wicked behaviour far from your tent,
13:04and throw your gold into the dust,
13:06your gold of obfier,
13:08among the rocks and in the ravines,
13:11then the Almighty himself will be your gold,
13:13and the choicest silver for you.
13:17Surely then you will delight yourself in the Almighty,
13:20and will lift up your face toward God.
13:23You will pray to him,
13:25and he will hear you,
13:26you will fulfil your foes to him.
13:30Whatever you decide on a matter,
13:33it will be established for you,
13:35and light will shine on your ways.
13:39When people love rot low,
13:41and you say,
13:42Lift them up,
13:43then he will save the downcast.
13:46He will deliver even someone who is not innocent,
13:50who will escape through the cleanness of your hands.
13:55This is the word of the Lord.
13:58Thanks be to God.
14:11Mary said,
14:13My soul exult the Lord,
14:16and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:20because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:26For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:30because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
14:34and holy is his name.
14:37From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
14:43He has demonstrated power with his arm.
14:47He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
14:53He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
14:56and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:00He has filled the hungry with good things,
15:02and has sent the rich away empty.
15:06He has helped his servant Israel,
15:09remembering his mercy,
15:11as he promised to our ancestors,
15:14to Abraham,
15:15and to his descendants forever.
15:19Glory be to the Father,
15:21and to the Son,
15:22and to the Holy Spirit,
15:24as it was in the beginning,
15:26is now,
15:27and ever shall be,
15:28world without end.
15:30Amen.
15:40The Gospel according to St. Matthew,
15:43Chapter 3
15:46In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness of Judea,
15:50proclaiming,
15:51Repent,
15:52for the kingdom of heaven is near,
15:54for he is the one about whom the prophet Isaiah had spoken.
15:59The voice of one shouting in the wilderness,
16:02Prepare the way of the Lord,
16:04make his paths straight.
16:07Now John wore clothing made of camel's hair,
16:10with a leather belt around his waist,
16:12and his diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.
16:17People from Jerusalem,
16:18as well as from all of Judea,
16:20and the region around the Jordan,
16:22were going out to him,
16:23and he was baptizing them in the Jordan River,
16:26as they confessed to their sins.
16:30But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism,
16:34he said to them,
16:35You,
16:36offspring of vipers,
16:38who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
16:41Therefore produce fruit that proves your repentance,
16:44and don't think you can say to yourselves,
16:47We have Abraham as our father.
16:50For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham,
16:54even from these stones.
16:57Even now the axe is laid at the root of the trees,
17:00and every tree that does not produce good fruit
17:03will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
17:07I baptize you with water for repentance,
17:10but there is one coming after me more powerful than I am,
17:13and I am not worthy to carry his sandals.
17:17He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
17:21His winnowing fork is in his hand,
17:24and he will clean out his threshing floor,
17:26and will gather his wheat into the storehouse,
17:29but the chaff he will burn with an inextinguishable fire.
17:36Then Jesus came from Galilee to John
17:39to be baptized by him in the Jordan River.
17:43But John tried to prevent him, saying,
17:46I need to be baptized by you,
17:49and yet you come to me.
17:51Jesus replied to him,
17:53Let it happen now,
17:55for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.
18:00And John yielded to him.
18:03After Jesus was baptized,
18:06just as he was coming up out of the water,
18:08the heavens opened,
18:09and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove,
18:13coming upon him,
18:14and the voice from heaven said,
18:17This is my one dear Son.
18:19In him I take great delight.
18:24This is the word of the Lord.
18:26Thanks be to God.
18:42Now according to your word,
18:44Sovereign Lord,
18:45permit your servant to depart in peace.
18:49For my eyes have seen your salvation,
18:52that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
18:56a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
18:59and for glory to your people Israel.
19:04Glory be to the Father,
19:06and to the Son,
19:07and to the Holy Spirit,
19:09as it was in the beginning,
19:11is now,
19:11and ever shall be,
19:13world without end.
19:14Amen.
19:20I believe in God the Father Almighty,
19:24maker of heaven and earth,
19:26and in Jesus Christ,
19:27his only Son,
19:28our Lord,
19:29who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
19:32born of the Virgin Mary,
19:35suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
19:38was crucified,
19:40dead,
19:40and buried.
19:41He descended into hell.
19:44On the third day,
19:45he rose again from the dead.
19:47He ascended into heaven,
19:49and is sitting at the right hand of God,
19:52the Father Almighty.
19:54From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
19:59I believe in the Holy Spirit,
20:01the Holy Catholic Church,
20:03the communion of saints,
20:05the forgiveness of sins,
20:07the resurrection of the body,
20:09and the life everlasting.
20:12Amen.
20:17The Lord be with you,
20:20and with your spirit.
20:24Let us pray.
20:28Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:31Christ, have mercy upon us.
20:36Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:42Our Father, who is in heaven,
20:46holy is your name.
20:48May your kingdom come.
20:50May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
20:56Give us this day our daily bread.
20:58Forgive us our trespasses,
21:00as we forgive those who trespass against us.
21:04Lead us not into temptation,
21:07but deliver us from evil.
21:10For yours is the kingdom,
21:12the power and the glory,
21:15for ever and ever.
21:17Amen.
21:22O Lord, show your mercy upon us
21:25and grant us your salvation.
21:31Protect and guide those in authority over us
21:36and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
21:41Endure your ministers with righteousness
21:44and make your chosen people joyful.
21:50O Lord, save your people
21:53and bless your inheritance.
21:58Give peace in our time, O Lord,
22:02because there is none other who fights for us
22:05but only you, O God.
22:09O God, make clean our hearts within us
22:13and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
22:25Let us pray.
22:28Grant, O Lord, we beseech you
22:30that the course of this world
22:32may be so peacefully ordered by your governors
22:35that your church may joyfully serve you
22:38in all godly quietness.
22:41Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
22:44Amen.
22:52O God, from whom all holy desires,
22:57all good counsels and all just works proceed,
23:00give to your servants that peace
23:03which the world cannot give,
23:06that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments
23:09and also that by you
23:12we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
23:16may pass our time in rest and quietness.
23:20Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
23:24Amen.
23:29Lighten our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
23:32and by your great mercy defend us all
23:35from perils and dangers of this night.
23:39For the love of your only Son,
23:42our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
23:44Amen.
23:48Almighty God,
23:49who has given us grace at this time
23:52with one accord
23:53to make our common supplications to you
23:56and promises that when two or three
23:59are gathered together in your name,
24:01you will grant their requests.
24:05Fulfill now, O Lord,
24:07the desires and petitions of your servants,
24:10as may be most beneficial for them,
24:14granting us in this world
24:16knowledge of your truth
24:17and in the world to come
24:20life everlasting.
24:22Amen.
24:25With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
24:28and the love of God
24:29and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
24:31be with us all evermore.
24:35Amen.
