00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 73
05:00Certainly God is good to Israel, and to those whose motives are pure.
05:07But as for me, my feet almost slipped, my feet almost slid out from under me.
05:13For I envied those who are proud, as I observe the prosperity of the wicked.
05:19For they suffer no pain.
05:21Their bodies are strong and well fed.
05:24They are immune to the common trouble to men.
05:27They do not suffer as other men do.
05:31Arrogance is their necklace, and violence covers them like clothing.
05:37Their prosperity causes them to do wrong, and their thoughts are sinful.
05:43They mock and say evil things.
05:46They proudly threaten violence.
05:49They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.
05:56Therefore, they have more than enough food to eat, and even suck up the water of the sea.
06:01They say, how does God know what we do?
06:05Is the Most High aware of what goes on?
06:10Take a good look.
06:13This is what the wicked are like.
06:15Those who always have it so easy, and get richer and richer.
06:20I concluded, surely in vain I have kept my motives pure, and maintained a pure lifestyle.
06:29I suffer all day long, and I am punished every morning.
06:35If I had publicized these thoughts, I would have betrayed your people.
06:41And when I tried to make sense of this, it was troubling to me.
06:47Then I entered the precincts of God's temple, and I understood the destiny of the wicked.
06:55Surely you put them in slippery places, and you bring them down to ruin.
07:01How desolate they become in a mere moment.
07:06Terrifying judgments make their demise complete.
07:11They are like a dream after one wakes up.
07:14O Lord, when you awake, you will despise them.
07:19Yes, my spirit was bitter, and my insides felt a sharp pain.
07:24I was ignorant, and lacked insight.
07:28I was as senseless as an animal before you.
07:32But I am continually with you.
07:34You hold my right hand.
07:37You guide me by your wise advice, and then you will lead me to a position of honor.
07:43Whom do I have in heaven but you?
07:46I desire no one but you on earth.
07:51My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.
07:58Yes, look, those far from you die.
08:02You destroy everyone who is unfaithful to you.
08:06But as for me, God's presence is all I need.
08:10I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, as I declare all the things you have done.
08:17Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
08:21as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:27Amen.
08:31Psalm 74
08:34Why, O God, have you permanently rejected us?
08:38Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?
08:46Remember your people, whom you acquired in ancient times,
08:50whom you rescued, so that they could be your very own nation,
08:54as well as Mount Zion, where you dwell.
08:59Hurry to the permanent ruins, and to all the damage the enemy has done to the temple.
09:05Your enemies roar in the middle of your sanctuary.
09:09They set up their battle flags.
09:12They invade like lumberjacks, swinging their axes in a thick forest.
09:18And now they are tearing down all its engravings with axes and crowbars.
09:24They set your sanctuary on fire.
09:27They desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground.
09:32They say to themselves, we will oppress all of them.
09:37They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land.
09:44We do not see any signs of God's presence.
09:47There are no longer any prophets, and we have no one to tell us how long this will last.
09:53How long, O God, will the adversary hurl insults?
09:58Will the enemy blaspheme your name for ever?
10:02Why do you remain inactive, intervene and destroy him?
10:09But God has been my king from ancient times, performing acts of deliverance on the earth.
10:17You destroyed the sea by your strength.
10:19You shattered the heads of the sea monster in the water.
10:24You crushed the heads of the leviathan.
10:27You fed him to the people who live along the coast.
10:31You broke open the spring and the stream.
10:34You dried up perpetually flowing rivers.
10:38You established the cycle of day and night.
10:41You put the moon and the sun in place.
10:45You set up all the boundaries of the earth.
10:48You created the cycle of summer and winter.
10:53Remember how the enemy hurls insults, O Lord,
10:56and how a foolish nation blasphemes your name.
11:01Do not hand the life of your dove over to a wild animal.
11:06Do not continue to disregard the lives of your oppressed people.
11:12Remember your covenant promises,
11:15for the dark regions of the earth are full of places where violence rules.
11:21Do not let the afflicted be turned back in shame.
11:25Let the oppressed and the poor praise your name.
11:30Rise up, O God, defend your honour.
11:33Remember how fools insult you all day long.
11:37Do not disregard what your enemies say.
11:40Or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you.
11:45Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
11:50As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
11:54World without end.
11:56Amen.
12:03The book of Job, chapter 40.
12:07Then the Lord answered Job.
12:10Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him?
12:13Let the person who accuses God give him an answer.
12:19Then Job answered the Lord.
12:22Indeed, I am completely unworthy.
12:25How could I reply to you?
12:27I put my hand over my mouth to silence myself.
12:31I have spoken once, but I cannot answer.
12:35Twice, but I will say no more.
12:39Then the Lord answered Job from within the whirlwind.
12:43Get ready for a difficult task like a man.
12:46I will question you, and you will inform me.
12:51Would you indeed annul my justice?
12:53Would you declare me guilty, so that you might be proven right?
12:58Do you have an arm as powerful as God's, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
13:04Adorn yourself then with majesty and excellency, clothing yourself with honour and glory.
13:12Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger.
13:15Look at every proud man, and bring him low.
13:18Look at every proud man, and abase him.
13:21Crush the wicked on the spot.
13:24Hide them in the dust together.
13:26Imprison them in the grave.
13:29Then I myself will acknowledge to you, that your own right hand can save you.
13:36Now look at the bear moth, which I made as I made you.
13:40It eats grass like the ox.
13:43Look at the strength in its loins, and the power in the muscles of its belly.
13:49It makes its tail stiff like a cedar.
13:51The sinews of its thighs are tightly wound.
13:56Its bones are tubes of bronze.
13:58Its limbs like bars of iron.
14:02It ranks first among the works of God.
14:05The one who made it has furnished it with a sword.
14:08For the hills it brings food where all the wild animals play.
14:14Under the lotus tree it lies, in the secrecy of the reeds and the marsh.
14:20The lotus trees conceal it in their shadow.
14:23The poplars by the stream conceal it.
14:27If the river rages, it is not disturbed.
14:31It is secure, though the Jordan should search up to its mouth.
14:36Can anyone catch it by its eyes,
14:39or pierce its nose with a snare?
14:43This is the word of the Lord.
14:46Thanks be to God.
15:00Mary said,
15:02My soul exalts the Lord,
15:05and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
15:09because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
15:15For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
15:19because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
15:23and holy is his name.
15:26From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:32He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:36He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
15:42He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
15:45and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:48He has filled the hungry with good things,
15:51and has sent the rich away empty.
15:55He has helped his servant Israel,
15:58remembering his mercy,
15:59as he promised to our ancestors,
16:02to Abraham,
16:04and to his descendants forever.
16:08Glory be to the Father,
16:09and to the Son,
16:10and to the Holy Spirit,
16:12as it was in the beginning,
16:14is now,
16:15and ever shall be,
16:17world without end.
16:19Amen.
16:27The Gospel according to St. Matthew,
16:30chapters 6 and 7.
16:33Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth,
16:37where moth and rust destroy,
16:40and where thieves break in and steal.
16:43But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven,
16:46where moth and rust do not destroy,
16:49and thieves do not break in and steal.
16:52For where your treasure is,
16:54there your heart will be also.
16:57The eye is the lamp of the body.
17:00If then your eye is healthy,
17:02your whole body will be full of light.
17:05But if your eye is diseased,
17:07your whole body will be full of darkness.
17:10If then the light in you is darkness,
17:13how great is the darkness!
17:17No man is able to be a servant to two masters,
17:20for he will hate the one and love the other,
17:23or he will keep to one
17:25and have no respect for the other.
17:28You may not be servants of God and of wealth,
17:31and so I say to you,
17:32take no thought for your life
17:34about food or drink,
17:36or about clothing for your body.
17:39Is not life more than food,
17:41and the body more than its clothing?
17:44See the birds of heaven.
17:46They do not put seeds in the earth.
17:48They do not get in grain,
17:50or put it in storehouses.
17:53And your Father in heaven gives them food.
17:57Are you not of much more value than they?
18:01Which of you, by taking thought,
18:03is able to make himself a cubit taller?
18:07So why are you troubled about clothing?
18:09See the flowers of the field,
18:11how they come up.
18:12They do no work,
18:14they make no thread.
18:15I say to you that even Solomon,
18:17in all his glory,
18:19was not clothed like one of these.
18:22If God gives such clothing
18:24to the grass of the field,
18:26which is here today,
18:27and tomorrow is put in the oven,
18:30will he not much more
18:32give you clothing,
18:34O you of little faith?
18:37Then do not be full of care,
18:39saying,
18:40what are we to have for food or drink,
18:42or with what may we be clothed?
18:45The Gentiles go in search of all these things,
18:48for your Father in heaven
18:50has knowledge that you have need of all these things.
18:54Let your first care be for his kingdom
18:57and his righteousness.
18:59All these things will be given to you in addition.
19:03Then have no care for tomorrow.
19:05Tomorrow will take care of itself,
19:08take care of the trouble of the day
19:10as it comes.
19:12Do not judge,
19:14so that you will not be judged.
19:17For by the standard you judge,
19:19you will be judged yourselves,
19:21and the measure you use
19:23will be the measure you receive.
19:27Why do you see the speck in your brother's eye,
19:29but fail to see the beam of wood in your own?
19:33How can you say to your brother,
19:35let me remove the speck from your eye,
19:38while there is a beam in your own?
19:41You, hypocrite,
19:43first remove the beam from your own eye,
19:46then you can see clearly
19:47to remove the speck
19:48from your own brother's eye.
19:52This is the word of the Lord.
19:55Thanks be to God.
20:07Now according to your word,
20:09Sovereign Lord,
20:10permit your servant to depart in peace.
20:13For my eyes have seen your salvation
20:17that you have prepared
20:18in the presence of all peoples,
20:22a light for revelation to the Gentiles
20:24and for glory to your people Israel.
20:30Glory be to the Father,
20:32and to the Son,
20:32and to the Holy Spirit,
20:34as it was in the beginning,
20:36is now,
20:36and ever shall be,
20:38world without end.
20:40Amen.
20:45I believe in God the Father Almighty,
20:49maker of heaven and earth,
20:51and in Jesus Christ,
20:52his only Son,
20:53our Lord,
20:54who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
20:58born of the Virgin Mary,
21:00suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
21:03was crucified,
21:05dead,
21:05and buried.
21:07He descended into hell.
21:08On the third day,
21:10he rose again from the dead.
21:12He ascended into heaven,
21:14and is sitting at the right hand of God,
21:17the Father Almighty.
21:19From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
21:24I believe in the Holy Spirit,
21:26the Holy Catholic Church,
21:28the communion of saints,
21:30the forgiveness of sins,
21:32the resurrection of the body,
21:35and the life everlasting.
21:37Amen.
21:42The Lord be with you,
21:45and with your spirit.
21:49Let us pray.
21:53Lord, have mercy upon us.
21:56Christ, have mercy upon us.
22:01Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:07Our Father,
22:09who is in heaven,
22:11holy is your name.
22:14May your kingdom come.
22:16May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
22:20Give us this day our daily bread.
22:23Forgive us our trespasses,
22:25as we forgive those who trespass against us.
22:30Lead us not into temptation,
22:32but deliver us from evil.
22:35For yours is the kingdom,
22:38the power and the glory,
22:40for ever and ever.
22:42Amen.
22:47O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
22:51and grant us your salvation.
22:56Protect and guide those in authority over us,
23:01and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
23:06Endue your ministers with righteousness,
23:10and make your chosen people joyful.
23:15O Lord, save your people,
23:19and bless your inheritance.
23:23Give peace in our time,
23:25O Lord,
23:27because there is none other who fights for us,
23:30but only you,
23:32O God.
23:34O God, make clean our hearts within us,
23:38and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
23:50Let us pray.
23:53O God, who has prepared for those who love you
23:56such good things as past man's understanding,
24:00pour into our hearts such love toward you,
24:04that we, loving you above all things,
24:06may obtain your promises,
24:09which exceed all that we can desire.
24:12Through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
24:15Amen.
24:24O God, from whom all holy desires,
24:28all good counsels,
24:30and all just works proceed,
24:32give to your servants that peace
24:35which the world cannot give,
24:37that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
24:42and also that, by you,
24:44we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
24:48may pass our time in rest and quietness.
24:52Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
24:55Amen.
25:01Light in our darkness, we beseech you, O Lord,
25:04and by your great mercy defend us all
25:07from perils and dangers of this night.
25:11For the love of your only Son,
25:13our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
25:16Amen.
25:20Almighty God,
25:21who has given us grace at this time with one accord
25:24to make our common supplications to you,
25:28and promises that when two or three are gathered together in your name,
25:32you will grant their requests.
25:36Fulfill now, O Lord,
25:39the desires and petitions of your servants,
25:42as may be most beneficial for them,
25:46granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
25:49and in the world to come,
25:52life everlasting.
25:54Amen.
25:57May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
25:59and the love of God
26:01and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
26:03be with us all evermore.
26:07Amen.
