00:22Let us pray.
00:25Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
00:28who your faithless disciple Judas sold for a vile sum of money to the Jews
00:34who were persecuting you and conspiring against your life.
00:39Root out, I beg you, from my heart all evil love of any creature.
00:44Grant that I may never prefer anything to you.
00:48May I always show the most perfect charity towards all men,
00:54especially those who trouble me.
00:57Pardon me, my Holy Redeemer,
00:59for having so often prepared vain and perishable things to you,
01:03and for having, for the sake of vile pleasures, turned myself from you.
01:10Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
01:12who ate the Passover with your disciples at Jerusalem,
01:16according to the commandments of the law,
01:19giving them an example of humility and holy love,
01:22by kneeling down on the ground and washing their feet,
01:26wiping them with a linen cloth.
01:29I pray that this your example may penetrate my soul,
01:33destroying thoroughly any haughtiness and pride within me.
01:38Give me, O Lord, the deepest humility,
01:40that I may, without delay, perform the lowest ministry to all men.
01:46Give me perfect obedience, that I may, with complete diligence,
01:50observe as your commandments whatever your appointed representatives may decide.
01:57Give me the most fervent charity, that I may sincerely love all mankind.
02:05Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
02:08who out of your unspeakable love gave us the sacrament of the Eucharist,
02:13and in it given yourself to us with wondrous liberality,
02:18so that you might remain with us even bodily unto the end of the world.
02:25Grant me, I beg you, O Lord, an earnest longing,
02:29and in kindle in my innermost soul an intense hunger for this adorable sacrament.
02:36Grant that when I go to the table of life I may receive you with chaste affection,
02:41complete humility and perfect purity of heart.
02:45May my soul so thirst for you now, and so languish in your love,
02:50that I may one day be found suitable to enjoy the delights of your eternal kingdom,
02:56to the glory everlasting of your name.
03:00Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
03:03who, when you were about to leave the world,
03:06commanded and comforted with words of unspeakable sweetness your disciples,
03:12and most earnestly commended them in prayer to your Father,
03:17most plainly showing how tenderly you loved them and us,
03:22who were to believe through their word.
03:25Grant that my heart may evermore relish your word,
03:29and that I may find your words sweeter than honey to my taste.
03:36O that the spirit of that burning exhortation may so glide into my heart,
03:40that I may be wholly transformed into your love.
03:44So direct all my ways, O Lord my God,
03:48that your holy will may be done in and by me for ever and ever.
03:54Praise and honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
03:58who went out with your disciples across the Kedron Brook,
04:01and came into the garden which you knew would be where you would be taken.
04:08May I entirely give up my will and always follow and love yours.
04:13May I, for your honour and for the salvation of my brothers and sisters,
04:17boldly endure any adversity, and be willing even to lay down my life,
04:23if your divine providence should so ordain it.
04:28Praise honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
04:31who as your passion drew nigh,
04:33began to be sorrowful and sad, with a heavy heart,
04:38and so that by transferring the weakness of all your members to yourself,
04:42you might be able to console and strengthen them
04:45when they were in their time of fear at the approach of death.
04:49By this your own weakness which you have willingly taken upon you.
04:56Preserve me, I beg you, both from the immoderate sorrow
05:00and from foolish gladness.
05:03Grant that the grief which I have thus far endured
05:06may be for your glory and for the remission of my sins.
05:11Remove mercifully from me all distrust and unnecessary weakness,
05:17and confirm and establish my soul whole in you.
05:22Praise and honour and glory be to you, O Christ,
05:25who fell prostrate on the ground and prayed to your Holy Father,
05:29humbly offering your whole self to him,
05:32saying, Your will be done.
05:35Give me grace in every necessity and trouble
05:38to fly to you in prayer
05:40and freely to resign and give myself up to your will.
05:47May I never unduly endeavour to escape from trouble,
05:51but receive all things from your hand with a quiet mind,
05:55and may I endure everything in meekness of spirit for your love.
06:01Amen.
06:05O Lord, open our lips,
06:08and our mouths shall sing your praise.
06:17O be joyful in the Lord,
06:21Lord in the hands,
06:24serve the Lord with gladness,
06:27and come in oneish breath and dribbles on.
06:33He is sure that the Lord, he is God.
06:40It is he that can bring us and not be ourselves.
06:46We are his people and the sheep of his master.
06:53You do your way into this basic tasking
06:58and in truth is God's great place.
07:04We thank God to him and speak to the good of his name.
07:13For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting
07:21and his truth endures from generations.
07:35Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost
07:46as it was in the beginning
07:50is now and ever shall be
07:56world without end.

08:17Blessed is the man that hath not walked in the crown of me and calling,
08:24nor stood in the way of sinners,
08:31and hath not sat in the seat of the struggle,
08:38but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
08:44and in his law may he exorcise himself day and night.
08:54And he shall be like a tree planted by the water-side
09:01that will bring forth his cross in the season.
09:08Give me for your child and freedom,
09:15and look, whatever he doeth, it shall prosper.
09:25As for the glory and glory, it is not so in heaven,

10:54A reading from the Gospel of
10:57According to St John Chapter 7
11:01Then some of the residents of Jerusalem began to say,
11:05Isn't this the man they are trying to kill?
11:08And yet here he is, speaking publicly,
11:11and they are saying nothing to me.
11:14Do the rulers really know that this man is the Christ?
11:18But we know where this man comes from.
11:22Whenever the Christ comes,
11:23no one will know where he comes from.
11:28Then Jesus, while teaching in the temple courts, cried out,
11:32You both know me and know where I come from.
11:35And I have not come on my own initiative.
11:38But the one who sent me is true.
11:41You do not know him, but I know him.
11:44Because I have come from him, and they sent me.
11:49So then they tried to seize Jesus, but no one laid a hand on him,
11:53because his time had not yet come.
11:57Yet many of the crowd believed in him and said,
12:01Whenever the Christ comes,
12:02he won't perform more miraculous signs than this man did, will he?
12:09The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things about Jesus.
12:13And so the chief priests and the Pharisees sent Ephesus to arrest him.
12:18Then Jesus said,
12:19I will be with you for only a little while longer.
12:23And then I am going to the one who sent me.
12:26You will look for me, but not find me.
12:29And where I am, you cannot come.
12:33Then the Jewish leaders said to one another,
12:36Where is he going?
12:38We cannot find him.
12:41He is not going to the Jewish people dispersed amongst the Greeks.
12:44I teach the Greeks, is he.
12:47What did he mean by saying,
12:49You will look for me, but you will not find me.
12:51And where I am, you cannot come.
12:56On the last day of the feast, the greatest day,
12:59Jesus stood up and shouted out,
13:02If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me.
13:04And let the one who believes in me drink.
13:08Just as the scripture says,
13:10From within him will flow rivers of living water.
13:16Now he said this about the Spirit,
13:18whom those believed in him were going to receive.
13:22For the Spirit had not yet been given.
13:25Because Jesus was not yet glorified.
13:31When they heard these words, some of the crowd began to say,
13:34This really is the prophet.
13:36Others said, This is the Christ.
13:40But still others said,
13:42No, for the Christ doesn't come from Galilee, does he?
13:47Then the scriptures say,
13:49That the Christ is a descendant of David,
13:51And comes from Bethlehem,
13:52The village where David lived.
13:56So there was a division in the crowd,
13:58Because of Jesus.
14:00Some of them wanted to seize him,
14:02But no one laid a hand on him.
14:08Then the officers returned to the chief priests and the Pharisees,
14:11Who said to them,
14:12Why didn't you bring him back with you?
14:16The officers replied,
14:18No one ever spoke like this man.
14:22The Pharisees answered,
14:24You haven't been deceived too, have you?
14:28None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?
14:33But this rabble, who do not know the law, are accursed.
14:40Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before,
14:42And who was one of the rulers said,
14:45Our law doesn't condemn a man unless it first hears from him,
14:49And learns what it is that he is doing, does it?
14:56They replied,
14:57You aren't from Galilee too, are you?
15:01Investigate carefully,
15:02And you will see that no prophet ever came from Galilee.
15:06And each one departed to his own house.
15:11This is the word of the Lord.
15:14Thanks be to God.
15:20Jesus continued preaching in the temple in Jerusalem,
15:24Much to the annoyance of the people of Jerusalem,
15:27Who were, it seems, well aware of the plans to have him killed.
15:32In their mutterings against him,
15:34They wondered if perhaps the authorities thought that he was the Christ after all.
15:40And they then thought themselves the better.
15:43For they knew that he could not possibly be the Christ,
15:46Because they knew where he came from.
15:50But of course, Jesus was well aware of their cunning arguments,
15:54And countered by proclaiming that of course they knew him and where he came from.
15:59But that they did not know where he originally came from.
16:03The Father.
16:04And likewise that he had not come of his own choice,
16:07But that of the Father.
16:10Although the crowd did not know God, Jesus did.
16:14Because he had been sent by God.
16:17To the crowd this was surely the biggest of all possible blasphemies,
16:22And enraged they tried to get a hold of him.
16:25But as usual, he passed them by,
16:28Because the time for his death had not yet come.
16:33Let us stop the argument,
16:35And consider the wickedness of the argument put about by the crowd.
16:43In their anger they were selected in their use of prophecy.
16:47To support their claims, they refer to Micah 5.2,
16:51Where the Messiah is referred to as a king,
16:53Who emerges from the distant past.
16:57On the other hand,
16:59They did not consider the first parts of this very same verse,
17:04Which tells that the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem.
17:10Their familiarity with Jesus had brought a contempt for him,
17:14And spawned the wickedness beyond measure.
17:17For us this is a double warning,
17:20Not only against looking to justify our own desires through the law,
17:24But also selective use of the scriptures,
17:27By picking sections that support our argument,
17:30And disregarding those that do not.
17:32Failing to read the passages entirely,
17:36Before coming to conclusions.
17:44But the more that Jesus taught,
17:46The more determined the Jewish authorities became to be rid of him.
17:50But in their assessment of him,
17:52They made a fundamental error.
17:54They assumed that he came from Galilee,
17:58Whereas they knew the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.
18:03Jesus was of course,
18:05Born in Bethlehem as we know,
18:07And off the royal line of David.
18:10But in their haste to condemn him,
18:12They had failed to establish the facts.
18:16Without inquiry they would not have known,
18:19They just assumed that because Jesus spoke with a Galilean accent,
18:23He was from Galilee.
18:26Forgetting conveniently of course,
18:28That the prophet Jonah was also a Galilean.
18:36The Pharisees were increasingly determined to catch Jesus,
18:40And yet the people were in two minds.
18:44On the one hand,
18:46They were indignant that this was just a mere peasant from Galilee,
18:50From where it was said that no good would ever come.
18:53But on the other hand,
18:55They admired his teaching.
19:01They suffered the penalty,
19:02Of being too quick to judge Jesus,
19:04Without truly listening to what he had to say.
19:08Then,
19:09Perhaps they would have been less interested in where he came from,
19:12And more interested in his message,
19:15And where he was going.
19:19We too can be guilty of prejudgment,
19:21And of getting things completely the wrong way around.
19:26Sometimes this is totally unfair,
19:28And based on nothing more than a first impression,
19:31Or a careless word or two.
19:34But we end up being placed in a difficult position.
19:38Take care when you form opinions of people.
19:42Come to too quick a conclusion,
19:45And you may well come to regret it.
19:53Let us pray.
19:55Almighty and most merciful God,
19:58Whose only gift comes that your faithful people
20:01Give you true and laudable service.
20:04Grant, we beseech you,
20:06That we may so faithfully serve you in this life,
20:09That we will not fail finally to attain your heavenly promises.
20:13Through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord.
20:17Amen.
20:22May the Lord bless us,
20:24And keep us from all evil,
20:27Bringing us to everlasting life.
