00:00I thought Deshaun had a great day. This was his best day of practice by a long shot.
00:03He was sharp, he was on time, he was on the money, he was throwing the football in tight windows.
00:08They had a little red zone period down here where I think he completed almost every pass for a touchdown.
00:12He was operating the way you would expect a very good starter in the NFL would.
00:16Doggone it!
00:19Doggone it to heck!
00:20Well, that'll do it.
00:22This thing is over.
00:25Shut up.
00:28I'm being sarcastic to a degree.
00:33Darryl Ryder, he had more to say about it yesterday.
00:35That was Joe Thomas, by the way, in case you didn't recognize the voice.
00:38Yeah, he was on afternoon drive.
00:40Darryl Ryder was on afternoon drive.
00:43He is excited about the practice that Deshaun Watson had because he certainly picked it up from the practice that
00:50he had had on Tuesday.
00:52Here's the dangerous one.
00:54Probably the best practice of camp for a 90-minute practice.
00:57I thought the quarterbacks were as good as they've been because they've not been good the first six practices.
01:03If they can do this going forward, I'm going to feel a lot better about that position group.
01:06The question is, can they do that?
01:07I thought Deshaun Watson did a great job right out of the gate setting the tone in the first 11
01:11-on-11.
01:12Two quick hitters to Jerry Judy.
01:14Then he found Casey Concepcion after a running play, and that just really set the tone for practice.
01:19The 11-on-11, the 7-on-7.
01:21The ball was coming out.
01:22All three quarterbacks in rapid fashion.
01:25They were more decisive today than we've seen in this camp typically.
01:29I could count to four and five, and both Deshaun and Shadour would still have the ball in their hand.
01:34Not the case today.
01:35Denzel Boston and Casey Concepcion continue to look great.
01:38Jerry Judy continues to look like he's interested in what they're doing offensively.
01:42A very good day from my point of view from a practice standpoint.
01:47Interested.
01:47Doesn't make me happy.
01:48The football player's interested in doing football.
01:51That's good.
01:54That's the best compliment he's got in two years.
01:56Honestly, it probably is.
01:58I guess it kind of makes me happy, I guess.
02:00I mean, you know, you want him to do well, so.
02:02Kenny, this is the monk in effect.
02:05He's transformed the quarterback room.
02:06They've knocked the rust off, and here we go.
02:09Well, you know, you're saying what you're saying.
02:12I think you're trying to annoy me to some degree, but it's not what a football coach is supposed to
02:16do.
02:17That is.
02:17I want you to get to point A to point B, but if you can't reach point B, we've got
02:20to find a new point B, and I've got to help you find it, don't I?
02:22You're starting to get worried about the defense.
02:242-1-6, 4-7-4, double-0-92.
02:26Those are the best training camp headlines that we have, you know.

02:37I was feeling better and better going into yesterday in practice, and I was like, I think Shador could win
02:42this thing.
02:43Yeah.
02:44And do you still feel that way at all?
02:46Yeah.
02:46You felt that way, too?
02:47Oh, yeah.
02:48Yeah, for sure.
02:49All right.
02:49It wasn't even winning.
02:50I said to you yesterday, I was like, I think Shador might be in the lead.
02:54Well, and then we got the note that Munkin wrapped up practice the day before after a touchdown drive because
03:01he's like, we've seen it, and then Deshaun didn't get more reps because of it.
03:06Yeah.
03:06And people were like, well, that's – if you're just trying to – guys, we're all looking at breadcrumbs.
03:11Mm-hmm.
03:12I know there was the report that Munkin was going to give one game the start to one QB, then
03:17the other game, and then try to wrap things up for that third dress rehearsal, which made sense.
03:23But then he kind of pushed back at it.
03:25But then when they had wrapped up practice because Shador finished strong the day before, we're like, oh, okay, boy,
03:32take note of that.
03:33Like, go back to that and remember that.
03:35File that away.
03:36But then yesterday, Deshaun Watson has the all-time camp performance.
03:41Kenny, not since Paul Kai and Al Bundy with the four touchdowns, did I think somebody could put together artistry?
03:52Seven touchdowns?
03:53I – five is a good day.
03:55Seven yesterday?
03:56Seven touchdowns yesterday?
03:57What did I tell you guys about these stupid trackers?
03:59What did I tell you guys about these stupid trackers?
04:03Nobody wants to listen when it's their favorite quarterback, but when it's the other one, ah, trackers don't matter.
04:08Because they never matter.
04:09Now, where did the drive start?
04:09They don't matter.
04:11They didn't start their own 20, right?
04:13Somebody I know very well has become awfully defensive over it, which makes me go, well, you're supposed to know
04:17better.
04:17Maybe it was your idea.
04:18But I digress.
04:20All right, let me go around the room real quick.
04:23As of today, August 6th, who's in the lead for the QB job for the Browns?
04:29John Colavita, go!
04:31Shador, come on.
04:32One day of practice, one good day of practice does not warrant a start.
04:37Oh, and Lotteman, go!
04:39Probably Deshaun.
04:43Anthony Lima, go!
04:45I thought, Shador?
04:47Say what it is today.
04:51Shador?
04:53Say it like you mean it if you're going to say it.
04:56That is, it did?
04:58Hold on, let me work on the pitch again.
05:01Shador?
05:03Sanders?
05:04That wasn't even better.
05:05I know what I want, but I know what I believe.
05:11Deshaun Watson.
05:12Well, hold on, come on.
05:13What, what, what?
05:14Come on.
05:15One day?
05:15One day?
05:16Well, don't take my word for it just now.
05:19Let's hear Mike Garofalo, ESPN.
05:21I've been on this since February.
05:23Wow.
05:23I was in the scouting combine.
05:24I had people telling me,
05:25Deshaun Watson's going to be the starter for the Browns.
05:27That's the worst kept secret in the NFL back in February.
05:30And then all of a sudden you started to see the way they played out in the spring
05:33and some of the answers that you got from the coaching staff and others there.
05:36It's going to be Watson, which is amazing because owner Jimmy Haslam had said before
05:41that they, quote, took a swing and a miss with Deshaun Watson.
05:44Made it seem like it was over.
05:45And now all of a sudden here's Watson coming back here.
05:47He's still got to fend off Shador and he's still got to practice well and play well in the preseason.
05:50But my educated guess is going to be Deshaun Watson.
05:53I'm glad he's the only one that's been on it since February.
05:55Finally, somebody has the stones to say it.
05:59That's Mike Garofalo ESPN.
06:02All right.
06:03Who do we think is leading for the job?
06:04Because there's a difference between want and who we really think it is.
06:07I can want so many things.
06:08What I believe is a different animal.
06:11And what I believe is still as hopeful as I am that Shador Sanders steps up and takes this job.
06:18It's Deshaun.
06:19But isn't this what you wanted?
06:22You wanted Deshaun to start the year as the quarterback says Shador had time.
06:26No.
06:26You told me that two months ago.
06:28No, I didn't.
06:28No, no, no, no, no, no.
06:29I said I was willing to accept that.
06:31I could say I said where it makes sense.
06:33I never said I wanted it.
06:34Absolutely not.
06:35I never, ever, ever said I wanted it that way.
06:38Because Lyman and I had an argument.
06:40I think it might have been with the guys in the afternoon, but it might not have been.
06:42I'm not going to put pressure on guys that it ain't there.
06:45Because I remember you and I had that discussion.
06:47You go, no, no, no, no.
06:48It's not what I want.
06:49I want Shador to start the season.
06:51But I said it's not the end of the world.
06:52If he does it, I could see a world where Deshaun Watson starts the season.
06:56Because I do think it's better for everybody involved if Deshaun Watson, if they're not going to go well.
07:02If the season's not going to go well.
07:04I'm talking about the fans.
07:05I think it might be better for the fans if they're going to make the decision and they're going to
07:10start,
07:10well, we're going to work it out one way or the other.
07:13And they just decide, all right, we're going to go with the veteran.
07:15I don't think it's the worst thing in the world if Shador is his backup to start the year.
07:21I think he'll play sooner than later.
07:23And that, to me, is okay.
07:24Like, I'm not going to be screaming and yelling and say, Todd Munkin is this, that, and the other.
07:29Unless Deshaun goes out there and throws four picks against Jacksonville and sucks up the room
07:33and Shador Sanders takes off and ends up being a great football player.
07:36Because in the back of my head, I'm going to sit there and always wonder about what made you think
07:39this way or the other.
07:40Because you're supposed to be the guy to fix all this because we fired the other guy.
07:44I said it was acceptable.
07:45I never said it was something I wanted.
07:47Absolutely not.
07:48Absolutely not.
07:49I know there's a lot of things that I say, but I know that for a fact.
07:52I know it.
07:53And I say it's acceptable, but what I want is Shador Sanders to start the season.
07:58But what I think I'm going to get is still Deshaun Watson starting the season.
08:02You want to win the lottery.
08:04What are you going to get?
08:05You want world peace.
08:06What are you going to get?
08:07You want Shador.
08:08What are you going to get?
08:08And part of it is because I knew what excuses would come flying from a certain segment of the fan
08:13base.
08:13But I could understand the thought process of allowing the line to gel before and the rookies, even though maybe
08:22Denzel Boston doesn't need to gel.
08:24Maybe he's just going to hit the ground running.
08:26My God, the way people are talking about him and the stuff we've seen from camp.
08:29I mean, it's highlight after highlight after highlight, but you know how it is.
08:34Like, if Shador started week one and struggled and the offensive line was taking a month to really take shape,
08:41which sometimes he can, then you know that there'd be people going, maybe it would have been better off had
08:46he have come in relief.
08:47Because nobody really thinks Watson's going to play it out 17 games, like start the season and finish the season.
08:54He has given us no reason to have that kind of faith in him.
08:57And I also believe that, I also believe that a veteran coach is going to want to go with the
09:05veteran.
09:06Now, I do have a theory about the more talk about Dylan Gabriel, it might be a good thing for
09:10Shador Sanders.
09:10And I'll talk about that coming up at eight o'clock.
09:12I know that seems to be crazy to some.
09:14Let me explain it.
09:158.01 on the fan.
09:16I promise you that.
09:17But as of right now, what I want and what I think are going to happen, it's not even as
09:22of right now.
09:24What I want is Shador to start.
09:26What I think is going to happen is still what I thought was going to happen since February, that Deshaun
09:32Watson is going to start this year.
