00:00The brazen killing of Police Constable Romel Kerry Douglas captured on CCTV camera along the Carony South Bank Road in
00:08Kelly Village last night.
00:09In the grainy video, a figure dressed in what appears to be a white vest approaches PC Douglas' car,
00:15and when he opens a driver's door, he's apparently shot by the officer and falls back and crawls across the
00:23roadway.
00:24Barely discernible in the footage is another accomplice lurking behind the car,
00:30who police believes later shot PC Douglas and relieved him of his firearm.
00:36The second accomplice is then seen dragging his injured colleague across the road
00:41to a dark area behind PC Douglas' car near Hydraulic Trace.
00:48Moments later, a white Nissan T-Dem motor car pulls up,
00:52and another man runs out of the vehicle and helps the other sealant to get their injured accomplice into the
01:01vehicle
01:01before speeding off as traffic comes to a halt.
01:06Commissioner of Police Alistair Guevara and the executive of the TTPS has extended its condolences
01:11to the family, friends and colleagues of PC Douglas, who they believe was killed in an attempted robbery.
01:18The TTPS release said the occupants of the car are believed to have attempted to rob PC Douglas,
01:24and during the incident, there was an exchange of gunfire.
01:28It is alleged that PC Douglas' license firearm was taken from him during the incident.
01:33The incident happened around 11.05 p.m., and PC Douglas, the TTPS release said,
01:39was found with multiple gunshot wounds by first responders ten minutes later.
01:44A male suspect who was injured in a shooting, the TTPS said,
01:49and who was later identified as 19-year-old Aditola Amon of Amrima,
01:53was taken to the Amrima Health Facility for treatment by his accomplices, where he later died.
01:59Meanwhile, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Social and Welfare Association,
02:04ASP Ishmael Pitt, said they were concerned about police officers under attack
02:08and described the latest killing as grave and dreadful.
02:12The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Social and Welfare Association,
02:16condemned in the strongest possible way the murder of our colleague PC Douglas,
02:21which occurred last night in the Kelly Village area.
02:25PC Douglas was a tremendous officer, very professional, very, very dedicated,
02:31and this will definitely be a great loss to our membership and also to the police service at large.
02:39You know, we express condolences to his family, to his immediate colleagues,
02:47those who worked with him directly.
02:49Pitt urged anyone with information about the men responsible for this killing to reach out to the police.
02:54He said that although Douglas was attached to Forwood's police station was not on duty,
02:59the association will ensure that his family gets proper enumeration due to his passing.
03:04There are benefits.
03:06Mr. Douglas has been a former member or a member up to the point of his death of our association,
03:13and for that reason, he will be appropriately addressed as far as our grants are concerned,
03:21at least his beneficiaries.
03:22Douglas was the third police officer to be murdered for the year.
