Parents often forget that encouraging the child builds healthy self-esteem, while ruthless criticism chips away at it. According to Pulkit Sharma, a clinical psychologist, psychoanalytic therapist, spiritual counselor and author, parents must choose their words wisely because those words get embedded in the child's inner voice.

This is an excerpt from an interview recorded in 2013 in which Pulkit Sharma spoke to Jagran Media team about the mental health issues confronting the Indian society. Although, it's been more than 13 years since this interview was recorded, the insights given by Pulkit Sharma continue to be meaningful.
